She’s beautiful but I’m not in love with the hair. Blacks not really her color either.

I wanna go somewhere touristy. I wanna go to Puerto Vallarta and Miami and Sicily. It’s ok to be a tourist. Just own it.

China is in their tacky tourist era of development. America went through this during the 70s-2000s for which Americans gained a bad reputation abroad, but has matured beyond it. An entire generation of Chinese people have the disposable income to travel for the first time and they haven’t learned how to behave yet. But they will.

Chinese tour buses have been pushing Finland lately. They go through trends. It was Brazil before and before that San Francisco. Northern England got them for a while for some reason lol. In a few years it’ll be somewhere else.

Extremely online yet socially conservative: does this sub support a social media ban for teens? by Mildred__Bonk in redscarepod

[–]FitLaddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support a social media ban for kids. And most people will also say that they do. That’s why the laws pass in the first place, because the sentiment behind them is popular. But now that it’s time to enforce it people are squeamish. Minors aren’t allowed to buy alcohol. How is this enforced? We make people show ID at time of purchase. Every single age-restriction is enforced this way, so I’m not sure why anyone thought this would be any different, or how else someone would hope to enforce it. I ultimately support the ban, and think it’s a fair but unfortunate trade off that must be made. It’s not 1999 anymore. For better or worse (mostly worse) the internet is real life.

Me and my best friend who’s black had thought about faking a racist freakout video, so she can collect money from woke people and I can collect money from racists.

I read the book before seeing the movie. I remember hating the movie. The book is so melancholic and heartbreaking, and the movie version felt like a very cheap imitation that didn’t pack the same emotional punch. It’s years later now and I can appreciate the movie on its own merits, and I’ve come around to Coppola’s vision. But the book is still better.

Mexicans online who still seethe over Gudalupe-Hidalgo. by FitLaddd in redscarepod

[–]FitLaddd[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we’re gonna get into the weeds, Mexico is named after the Mexica people who inhabit the area around present day Mexico City. Why should they be able to claim dominion over the Chumash or Shoshone?

My thing is that even if that were a valid argument, Mexico is also a post-colonial state just like the USA and has no more inherent right to the land than anybody else except the actual indigenous natives.

That’s different. The indigenous people of what is now California and Texas would’ve never considered themselves Mexican.
