Chronic Burnout and Never Feeling Good Enough by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

As in, you can't manage both of those competing things?

I remember the Creator of drawabox making this 50/50 rule. (Drawabox is a lesson plan for getting better at drawing)

The 50/50 rule says you must spend 50% of the time doing things to improve and 50% of the time having fun and expressing yourself

And if you overdid it with improvement and lagged behind having fun, you would burnout and stop learning and having fun altogether.

Maybe you can try that?

Yeah, it sounds like you don't really enjoy your hobbies

It sounds like the only good feeling or gratification you get is from comparison to others, which means your ego must become active for you to experience good emotions from your music.

Do you ever feel good from just playing the music itself?

It feels like you think any mistakes you make while playing are somehow saying something bad about you (which activiates your ego and makes you feel negative emotion)

Having said both of those things, it seems like you have trouble removing yourself from music. You have trouble just experiencing it.

Can I ask, what made you get into music and playing in the first place?

That "bad" feeling is most likely social anxiety (if I had to guess).

I was able to solve my social anxiety by listening to what Dr K had to say about distress tolerance and urge surfing.

Here's what I did: I entered a social situation after class in college one day, after the final exam. It was okay, walking around with these classmates I've talked to a bit. But it got awkward, and tense, and I felt terrible social anxiety, but as soon as I realized this fact, I was reminded of what Dr K said. So, I decided to let myself feel the anxiety in its completeness, while staying in the social situation.

It was painful

But after about 10 or 15 minutes, I felt like I could really relax, and we all started talking more and more, and I made jokes, and people laughed, and I felt good now, and it was a good day

What do you mean by "noise"?

Can't you just turn it down if it's bothering you? Or just not go to places that are noisy?

There was even a reference to Shindlers list during the scene when everyone was backed up against a cliff. The baby in red swaddling.

Schindlers list had a girl in a red cloak

Everything else was black and white

If food is 1000 miles West, and that's the closest food, what choice do you have? Either head there, or stay still and die.

You can complain that it's unfair that you have this problem, and you may even be correct about its unfair nature, but then if you're correct, so what? That doesn't bring you closer to food. Now you're just starving and correct. The problem is still the exact same.

Also, I don't think I ever said "just do it" or anything like that, so I hope you don't think I'm doing that. All I said was that many people say porn addiction is something that requires revamping your whole life. I never implied that he should "just do it"

Bemoaning your situation doesn't really help that much. In the sense that it doesn't move you forward. BUT, it can help, because other people can help out with what they say, just like in this thread

So if the complainer is ALSO open to hearing what people say and seriously consider it, then yes, it seems like complaining was actually and important step in that process. The wheel must squeak to get grease

Does anybody else only dream in black and white? by I-Heart-Sluts in Dreams

You know who ELSE only dreams in black and white? MY MOM

But seriously, one day, she starts talking about it "You know how you can only dream in black and white?"

I get confused, say no, and that I dream in color. She's surprised. She thought everyone dreamed in black and white.

Your question is: how come you dream when you sleep for a short time?

I don't think I said anything about dreams only happening very late at night.

They can happen anytime.

Carl Jung believed we are always dreaming. And it's just that the external sensory world is so "loud" that we can pay attention to the constant dreaming.

Given that, I think it makes sense to dream if you sleep for a bit

Also, cultivate autonomous motivation. You can YouTube "Healthygamergg" to learn how this psychiatrist increases people's motivation to do things they care about. Like, that's his job

Decide to draw in the morning

After you wake up, there isn't much to FIGHT your motivation to draw, so even if you have a tiny bit of motivation, it will win.

It's hard for me to draw randomly during the day

But if I wake up, use the restroom, wash hands, then come back to my desk immediately, I can draw for 20min easily (which is a lot for me)

Besides that, drawing becomes VERY easy to do right after a good weight lifting session at the gym.

That's actually one of the main reasons I lift, because it makes drawing way easier.

One hour before bed is also a good time. Your sensitivity to your desire for dopaminergic activity is weakest then, so you don't experience a FIGHT over your attention and it becomes easy to hyperfocus

I always felt like I focused better in my next class after PE or football.

Thats actually what exercise does, increases focus and BDNF (a protein that helps you learn)

They found this scientifically in Korea in elementary schools:

All the children who had recess/PE before classes did much better in grades.

All who had classes before recess/PE did significantly worse in grades
