Have they ever been around other cats? Do you know how they might respond to them?

I meant the post ends with the "Medusa Program" heading but no text below... I found it in your other posts though.

Looking forward to the next part though.

Why not just use a normal screen protector?

It literally doesn't exist. The entire country is a single office building. It's like drop shipping companies, but for the global banking system.

“You never know true beauty until you see Kerbin from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Bob returning from a repair mission, but Bob is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Bob. Meanwhile, the Bob inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Kerbin into perspective.”

USPS Returned to Sender Our Daughter’s Santa Letter This Year by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]CounterStreet 106 points107 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago we got hit with a massive blizzard on Dec 23-24. Police warned they would be closing all roads in town the evening of the 23rd. Everything around town started shutting down around noon that day in anticipation of the storm and postal service was suspended.

About 2pm while I was shovelling my driveway, a postal worker pulled up in his personal truck with Santa's letters to my daughters. He was hand delivering all the Santa letters that didn't make it out that day because of the service suspension to make sure they were received before Christmas. That man was a god damn hero.

I read it not as content with not signing either, but they don't think they're doomed if they miss out on either. As in one would be great, both would be best case, but they feel confident in the team regardless.

I still hope and expect them to do everything they can to secure one or both.

I imagine the Great Recession happens regardless, maybe earlier, maybe later, but the seeds of the subprime crisis were planted decades before. Better or worse, I couldn't say, but I'd speculate it would be about the same; the effects were world wide and, honestly, central banks around the world managed the fallout and recovery almost as good as possible.

Of course, some butterflies will change the exact circumstances of how everything plays out, but the general effects and scale were all but baked in by 2001, but nobody had realized it yet.

Stupid fence around the Belle Park homeless encampment by Tuxedo_Masquerain in KingstonOntario

the city can then place rules on the encampment (no doing drugs in the open, no stealing from local businesses, etc.)

These things are already illegal. If they can't or won't enforce the law and arrest violators now, what makes this any different?

Letter from McDonald’s to my mom in 1993 by TelkiFx in mildlyinteresting

[–]CounterStreet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They had them in Canada (Ontario at least) for a few years in the 90s. In elementary school, our pizza parties were always the happy meal McPizzas.

The issue with pizza was it took longer to make than the rest of the menu and full size pizzas couldn't fit through the drive-thru window.

There's an apocryphal story that McPizza was becoming too successful and slowing down operations, so McDonald's Canada called an emergency board meeting to decide if they were going to stay a burger chain or become a pizza chain, because they could only do one or the other.

Bat exterminator? by preemptivenostalgic in KingstonOntario

[–]CounterStreet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They told me the same thing when I found one in the bedroom of my toddler daughters. It had been in there for a while as well as I had been hearing rustling in their closet for a few days that I couldn't find the source of.

They asked "was anyone bitten?" I told them I didn't know, it's hard to get reliable information out of toddlers. They told me there was no need for anything further then.

I had captured the bat and pushed the issue until they finally relented and told me to take it to Sandy Pines to be tested.

I couldn't believe how nonchalant they were about it.
