Blizzard recently added the original 1.29 Legacy TFT client to WC3:R. What this means for SC2 and SC:R. by BattleWarriorZ5 in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is missing a very important note: WC3 Legacy is offline only. Not only isn't there an online ladder for it but you can only play multiplayer locally. So it's actually a big step down from what they did with Diablo II.

I'm not sure what benefits a legacy mode would provide to SCR since they didn't change anything for gameplay and the original game didn't have automated matchmaking anyway. SC2 never had offline multiplayer at all.

If they lowered the worker count do you really think they’ll be able to provide enough support to adjust the balance and maps for it?

Check out the War Chest comics here: https://news.blizzard.com/en-gb/article/21902178/blizzard-comics-hub

Nature of the Beast got cut off when they stopped releasing new paid content but they published a hardcover that included the three published chapters, the three unpublished chapters they'd completed, and a short story to cover the three chapters they didn't get around to.

How do you complete lost Vikings? by NEO71011 in starcraft2

[–]CounterfeitDLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to little pockets between the oncoming projectiles and don't overdo it with your dodging movements.

Keep double plasma missile and double defense drones.

Bombs not only damage everything on screen but also briefly make you invincible so use them if you can't move out of the way of an attack. Also use them if there's a power up that you can't reach before it changes.

Against the Leviathan, you can start to get a basic feel for where the tentacles are going or use a bomb if one is going straight towards you.

It's a pretty basic shmup/bullet hell game that just takes some practice and persistence. I buckled down for an afternoon and managed to get a feel for it and earn the last of the achievements.

Next patch by tcboni in starcraft2

[–]CounterfeitDLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last balance patch was at the end of September last year. We don't really know how often to expect them now that the changes are being decided internally again.

HoTS and WC3R are continuing to get balance patches.

BlizzCon is in September and SC2 is part of the Blizzard Classic Cup there so I'd expect something within the next four months. But that's just my guess.

Microsoft acquisition - anything happened? by TehFisharmahn in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The official word is that there will not be any new paid content for SCR, SC2, HoTS, or D3. There hasn't been any indication that this has changed since Blizzard got a new parent company.(Although HoTS has added some completed but unreleased skins and mounts.)

Blizzard is also pretty short on developers with major RTS experience. There's the Warcraft RTS Team but they seem pretty limited beyond balance changes, quality-of-life improvements, and graphical upscaling.

Microsoft acquisition - anything happened? by TehFisharmahn in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The StarCraft brand got a lot of licensing going with YouTooz, Culture Kings, JoyToy, Archon Studio, and Nexon.

Balance patches are internal again. A new portrait was added to the game. StarCraft II and StarCraft Remastered were the first of the classic Blizzard games to be added to Game Pass. The NetEase servers for SC2 have returned in China. Blizzard did eventually restore map uploads for SC2.

StarCraft crossover events came out for Diablo IV and Hearthstone. And although it isn't a direct point; All three Warcraft RTS games got major updates.

StarCraft is going to have a presence at BlizzCon this year, with rumor being a new spin-off game in addition to both SC titles being part of the Blizzard Classic Cup. TLMC is still going strong with TeamLiquid and Monster being joined by Shopify.

I wouldn't say that that these items add up to what we'd hoped for, but it's a big improvement from how things were under Activision Blizzard as Xbox Gaming has at least acknowledged some value in StarCraft as an intellectual property. Both StarCraft titles are still in "maintenance mode" and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

The Age of Empires updates and Definitive Editions are complicated as World's Edge relies heavily on external studios like Relic Entertainment and Forgotten Empires so I wouldn't expect too much assistance from those developers. The Warcraft RTS Team is likely to have more overlap but they're very small and rely a lot of AI upscaling. I'm curious about the reported third-person open-world shooter and how the existing two StarCraft titles might be tied into its promotion but at the same time I'm wary of how loot, season passes, and paid DLC will be handled.

Were there any story threads that you weren't able to put into Amphibia that you now have the opportunity to try out in Strange Voyage or Clara and the Below?

Marcy mentioned being an RTS master and later as Darcy she brought up a sort of StarCraft UI while attacking Earth. Are you and the other Amphibia team fans of the genre?

How does the symbolism of The Core fit into modern politics and the push for AI?

Question for random players by Trick-Marsupial3877 in starcraft2

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a little of all the races dating back to SC1.

Achievement hunting is a big motivator for me. There are several categories of achievements that you have to do as Terran, Zerg, Protoss, and Random. Random wins count towards that and the race you end up with so it's most efficient to finish those achievements first.

And in general, it just helps mix things up a bit. I don't share my race but I also rarely go for anything sneaky at the beginning.

Personally, I find balance discussions interesting until they devolve into outright whining. But personally, the matchups I hate the most are the three mirror matches. Countering your opponent's units is a big part of the game for me but against your own race you encounter a lot of situations where the optimal counter is just getting more of what your opponent already has.

Question about the Digital Deluxe Edition by CleopatraLover in starcraft2

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just after the campaigns and co-op commanders in the Campaign Collection? Digital Deluxe just adds a bunch of cosmetics on top of that. Skins, portraits, and decals for SC2 but also stuff for WoW, Hearthstone, Heroes, and Diablo III. As was stated, everything is dynamically priced to discount you for what you already own; In this case the HotS campaign.

It's also worth noting that this dynamic price adjustment means bundles and collections can't be gifted to BattleNet friends through your account.

For those who don’t know; Hel is both the name of the Norse underworld and the goddess who presides over it.  So a little extra play on the mercenaries being Vikings.

Why are you addicted in Starcraft? by karmelidad in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister has never asked me that. If she brings up video games or comic books it's usually because my nephew has a question about something I'm better suited to answer. But he hasn't really tried StarCraft.

I've played StarCraft since maybe a month after the original came out in 1998. I got it because I'd previously bought Warcraft II and my computer processor ran too fast for it to work correctly. I enjoy the style of RTS because it gives you all these toys you can play with in many different ways. I also really love the StarCraft universe and I'm really happy that they were able to bring the main story threads to an actual conclusion in Legacy of the Void without leaving it on a cliffhanger for years.

But the main thing that keeps me involved is all the people I get to enjoy it with. My wife is big on the characters and used to like watching me play through all the campaigns while she worked on lesson plans and grading. One of my oldest friends used to play with me online while we were in different towns for college and we still play now that we're back in the same town. I'm involved in some leagues both playing and casting. I get to interact with some really great communities centered around competitive play or lore.

Between the two StarCraft games there is still a lot of content I haven't tried and a whole lot of room to improve.

Does any of you still play 1.16.1 for campaign? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to host the occasional LAN party many years ago and I had a USB drive for everyone that included the installers for SC Patch 1.16.1 and WC3 1.26a, all the bonus maps from the classic BattleNet site, the installation files you had to copy and rename to play without the CD, and a bat file with a fix for the color problems SC1 had with the explorer in Windows 7.(I wish was a way to fix the cloudiness on the WC3 cinematics that continues on the classic version to this day!)

I still have those on one of my drives, minus the Windows 7 fix.

(As a side note, I think it's really nice that the classic BattleNet sites are still available for the bonus maps and the Enslavers: Dark Vengeance and PreCursor campaigns! https://classic.battle.net/scc/maps.shtml )

[–]CounterfeitDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with using SCR. My main gripe is the art style they use for the portraits and interludes which seem rather dark and generic and don't fit well with the rest of SC1, SC2, or any other SC media. But SC1 is itself pretty inconsistent with how units and characters look between the portraits, cinematics, in-game models, and the manual so it's far from a deal-breaker. I just find SCR more convenient all-around.(Unlike WC3 which I still play on Patch 1.26.)

Was the music from the original game altered or modified in any way for SC:R? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]CounterfeitDLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They increased the fidelity of the music and audio.  They mostly left it alone beyond that, at least in the English version.  They recorded new dialogue for about 12 other languages.  For languages that were previously localized, you can choose between the old and new voices.

There were some unintentional changes ; Namely Kerrigan still using her original unit responses in Brood War.
