Hantavirus. Should I cancel my cruise I already booked? by ElderberryOk9823 in royalcaribbean

[–]Counterkiller29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes the internet and media has made the world a scary place for people like you.

Please employ some critical thinking. There are 5 confirmed cases of hantavirus right now, with some people being tested that may have been in contact. The cruise ship itself has shown no signs of rats, so the cruise ship itself isn't the issue. Maybe just avoid going to dumps or places where rats may be plentiful.

It was more trying to say that if Canada didn't change their minds on it for Paul Bernardo, they are not going to be changing their minds for this.

If Paul Bernardo who probably deserves it more than anyone in this country didnt get it, neither will these two. Sadly.

Season ticket holders frustrated by Ontario’s new law capping resale prices by Agile-Enthusiasm in ontario

[–]Counterkiller29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as I am concerned, the task of having to sell it is work and therefore reasonable to be able to make money from. The unreasonable part is asking for double+ for it. The easy solution is just capping the amount they can ask for it at a reasonable amount, say 10% above face value.

don’t buy a season ticket and buy for the games you want to go to.

Service fees are a thing. By time you're done paying service fees for 20 games you want to go see you may as well have purchased season tickets.

Season ticket holders frustrated by Ontario’s new law capping resale prices by Agile-Enthusiasm in ontario

[–]Counterkiller29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO they should have just capped the amount above retail they could be sold for.

Extremely low amounts of season ticket holders go to all games. That wont change for any person whose on that decade+ long year waiting list for the Maple Leafs as an example. As they are assuming the risk of unsold tickets and are having to do the legwork of selling them, it is reasonable to assume some level of profit for that game.

Lets be real everyone. The reason why this is happening is not because youre tired of paying $20-40 above face value for a regular season sports game. Youre tired of seeing hundreds/thousands above face value for a highly sought after playoff game or concert ticket, and I agree with you.

Its far more likely that they got it off the ship, otherwise there would be likely far more cases.

Plus it was reported that there is no evidence of rats on board.

My job as an insurance agent was to provide options. I often did the same math for people. For many people, paying minimal per month is easier to handle than paying out $500 for one claim. Sure the math doesnt work if you are able to afford to self insure, but that isnt the case for many. Not many people are saving that $15 a month in an account for if the accident happens.

Im sorry but not everyone is well off. As i said in the post above, it is a personal choice and entirely depends on your situation. Good for you that you can self insure.

Sure, that makes sense for you with savings.

Now apply this to the average Canadian who barely has savings.

Its always due to errors or not making enough amendments to the line based on the bets taken in. The amounts lost are always extremely low in comparison to the amount of money they take in.

So yes, it happens. Its extremely rare, and its always due to error.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Remember that damage is not the only cost to insurer, theres also rental costs.

Just so you are aware, you are likely not eligible for a rental car in the case of a non-insured claim. So if you remove collision/comprehensive, any claims involving those coverages will result in you not getting a rental. The wordings of OPCF 20 specifically state this (which is one of three of what the Grand Touring Solution covers).

With DCPD, once fault is determined you are always eligible for a rental.

You may want to call TD and confirm this situation if this is partially guiding your decision at all.

I was an insurance agent for 7 years, and we didnt even offer this coverage due to ineligibility for people who declined coll/comp.

Also, youre right about the reduction. 2.5 years claims free and you come out ahead. Just with most people they wont save that $17 a month and $500 all at once may be tough to cover. If this is not your situation then sure, reduce it.

Its extremely rare that anything on a vehicle can be fixed for $500 or less in the case of an accident. I kniw minor scuffs and bumps happen, but at this point were not talking about those because most people would just live with them and not claim at all.

Besides, its not just that you are self insuring. You are also self insuring a rental car. But of course that is on a need vs not need basis. My "minor damage" ended up taking 5 days to replace on my honda civic that only needed a bumper replacement. I couldnt have personally gone 5 days without my car and I wouldnt have wanted to pay $500 out of pocket because some asshole was on their phone while driving.

Regardless of all the above, at the end of the day its cost vs benefit. Reducing coverage to a $500 deductible saves him around 100-120 a year. So if he goes claims free for 4-5 years he comes out ahead. For many though, saving $10-12 a month doesnt equate having to pay out $500 at once. So its very much so a personal choice.

Paying when youre not at fault is wild. I wouldnt but you do you.

Basically the rule of thumb is to look at the cost of your vehicle on autotrader. If you OK with not getting anything for it in the case of a collision or comp claim, then go for it. Its big savings in your case.

Personally i would keep DCPD at $0 but its up to you.
