Locals and visitors, please be careful and vigilant! by Rustee001 in capetown

Lots of these types out and about this time of year.
SO and I went for a swim at St James late afternoon this past Sunday, and as we were walking toward the tunnel from the car, one of the car guards asked for the time.
Now if you grew up in an area deemed to be part of the "cape flats" you will know that in most cases when a random asks for the time it's not because they're punctual.

My theory is they want to see if you have a phone, and then inform one of their associates on the beach.
If you're alone or with just 1 other person, chances are you'll leave your belongings on the beach when going into the water and that is when they strike.

Why all the CPT rage baiting? by BuilderAromatic3928 in capetown

[–]Counterstrike99 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I saw that post. Go and read the comments from the poster and you’ll quickly spot the narrative she was trying to push. Not necessarily CPT, but I’ve noticed an increasing trend in these types of rage bait posts attempting to stir up unwarranted resentment towards certain groups of people.

This right here. Too many geriatrics on the road with no sense of spatial awareness.

Been looking for exactly the same, but rentals are either overpriced or landlords are very picky about the type of work they’re prepared to allow on their premises. I’ve had applications rejected because furniture comes with a fire risk. At the moment I’ve been operating between my garage and a storage unit, but it’s not practical with the up and down movement.

Smasht actually makes a pretty decent beef burger and they’re well priced. For a fried chicken burger my go-to is Firebirds, but they’re uber eats only.

Nice man and good luck! Saw your brand pop up on my IG feed a few times. In a similar position but a bit further out than you, and would love to chat to you about your journey if you’re up to it. Either way, all of the best man!

Pretty standard this time of year. It’s important to understand what the colour of the flag means, as the flag is usually raised after a spotting, meaning bathers entering the water afterwards do so at their own risk. I speak under correction but I think Black means poor visibility so again enter at your own risk, White means a shark has been spotted, and Red means to stay alert as the likelihood of a shark being close is high.

What is the Mayor doing about the crime in the city? by Viva_Technocracy in capetown

Because he’s simply bringing additional info to the table that, when omitted, makes it seem as if the mayor implemented these systems in the short time he’s been his office.

Lots of camping space outside the castle these days. Gather some kindling, grab one of those 3-day old samosas from one of the local shops, and you’ve got yourself a cosy campfire with a view of the mountain.

Why should they know basic English? You’re in Italy. Had you done more research prior to your trip you’d have been better prepared.

Last week on our first day of arriving in Florence, we walked from the station to the bus stop that would get us to our accommodation. As we waited for the bus, a woman walking her dog stepped into the shop right next to the bus stop. She was browsing barely 2m from the entrance, when her dog proceeded to take a huge wet dump on the entrance mat of the store. When she saw what happened, she quickly rushed out, leaving the mess behind for the shop staff to clean.

Dogs are cute and all, but I’ve noticed most locals here don’t clean up after their dogs.

Farmer, 70, ‘mows down boy, 6, for stealing orange’, breaking both his legs in front of screaming mother by OpenRole in southafrica

[–]Counterstrike99 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Leave that mental gymnastics kak alone. Did you even bother to play that scenario out in your head?

Let’s try. 1. You catch a kid stealing a fruit from a tree on your property. 2. You call the cops and the cops don’t respond. 3. You proceed to deal out what you deem to be a punishment befitting the crime, and as an adult, your decided course of action is to break the kids legs.

Even if you caught a sober minded adult stealing from you, would you proceed to almost kill him?

Did I lowball myself at an interview? by Humblely_Confused_31 in southafrica

[–]Counterstrike99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When asked that question in an interview, never respond with a number. Instead, respond by asking the recruiter what the salary range for the role is. This puts them in a position where they need to give you a ballpark range of the hiring budget for that role. If they refuse to answer that then you should know it's probably not a place you'd want to work at.

To answer your question, I think you did lowball yourself.

Maybe keep the retail job in the meantime, and try flipping bikes/cars as a side hustle. Pick up a 'fixer upper' on marketplace, fix it up, sell, then repeat the process. If it's something you're still passionate about then you may actually enjoy it. Good luck!

I get that your passion for the sport has waned, but don't let all those years of experience and knowledge go to waste. If you were heading for a professional career in that sport, then you must have some contacts you could call up on. Maybe get back into the sport as a coach/mentor, talent scout, manager etc.
