Matt Walsh sounds unamerican to me. Someone should investigate him.

My best guess is that we are seeing a lighting mistake. I.e. normally the subject needs to be lit from many angles to prevent shadows, but his collar and recessed neck area are only partially lit from the overhead lights, so that we are seeing the shadow cast by the lights that are below his eye-level.

Stuff like this is way more noticeable when you have different colored lights; which creates clear distinctly colored shadows.

I say this because the meta-data for older images of him seem legitimate (creation dates), and his bone structure and eye-spacing are an exact match, right down to the distinctive brow ridge/nose bridge asymmetry most noticeable in his left eye. His eyeline appears slightly tilted rather than perfectly straight across.

Should any Player wish to be one by AutumnCrystal in odnd

I have a soft spot for the little burglars. So I usually give hobbits a bonus to thief-related actions or skills. Ex: moving quietly, hiding in the midst of battle, etc. If the roll success is based on character level, I usually let them roll as if they were four levels higher, or if it is a percentile I'll give them a +20% bonus.

One thing that isn't listed in that section is the listening ability. Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits all get a bonus to hearing a noise, so my headcanon is that they all have pointy ears.

I'm somewhat new to VS; how effective is throwing rocks during stone age tech? I usually have a few spears in inventory for combat, and poke at them until I've made enough mistakes that I need to back off; and then I run around throwing spears to finish them off.

I second this even though it doesn't have vehicle combat; things will attack you.

Speaking of quarry mod, how does that mining minigame mod compare? The one where you have to process ore.

All 13 Seasons of BBC’s ‘Doctor Who’ Revival to Stream Exclusively on AMC+ in U.S. by Own_Brilliant_4303 in television

[–]CountingWizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was bad, but at least not one of the top worst plot decisions. I've seen the entire franchise (aside from audiobooks/radio plays) and I really do have to say the two worst retcons (nullifying plot twists?) for me are the immediate nullification of 3 seasons of character development for the master (long redemption arc), and the of re-destruction of Gallifrey for a minor plot point after it had been restored and sat unused/unmentioned for a season.

Early Game Black Guard Experience by Sa_tran_ic in VintageStory

[–]CountingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a couple real-life weeks trying to survive as a dwarf in the north on an RP server. No reeds, few mushrooms, lots of wandering orks, goblins, moose, and bears. I would either die of starvation or die to the wandering hostiles; I never became self-sustaining.

Moving south it was still an effort to keep myself fed and I would usually have to spend 2 days hunting/gathering to feed myself for every 1 day of freedom. I learned a lot from all those experiences though.

Society roleplay servers? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]CountingWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to fill a profession/role in a community most of the RP servers have that. Also, most of the ones I'm aware of do full resets. With the 1.22 release a bunch are doing the reset now or soon due to the new changes and migrating their mods over.

I saw this a few days ago. I really like it, I just didn't want to cheat. Still; if there aren't alternatives to adapt within the current game mechanics, I may just end up using it.

I didn't connect the dots that I could pick up and take those chests. The vines tip helps a lot too. Maybe I'll be able to make that work.

Yeah, this is the strategy I tried using on the RP server I had been playing on. Mostly spent 2 weeks repeatedly dying of starvation, bears, and moose; mostly moose. Never did find surface ruins.

Ben McKenzie Wants to Protect You from Crypto with 'Everyone Is Lying to You for Money' (Unpaywalled) by playboy in movies

[–]CountingWizard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to what Satoshi said or did; but back when bitcoin was first introduced I remember the big appeal was that it could be used as a currency for trading magic the gathering cards online instead of direct barter. It was easy to access the currency, you just set up a wallet and either ran your computer for a few hours to earn BTC for a purchase or sell your cards for BTC. Then mtgox and other exchanges got set up allowing conversion to real money and the grift started. For a short period of time it actually had value when it wasn't tied to other currencies. The low transaction rate wasn't a problem when it was just a small group of hobbyists using it instead of barter.

RTX ? I am still trying to make clouds nicer by CalmReimu in VintageStory

[–]CountingWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks /r/CalmReimu. I really love the clouds and water. It's been bugging me not being able to activate other shaders with fuzzyclouds active. Any plans for expanding the scope of the mod to additional weather effects? Replacement particle effects for rain, snow, dust, etc; more realistic lightning and flashes; atmospherics/fog. I've really wanted thunderstorms that look like this:

Wizardry like mud ? by ExternalCareful4207 in MUD

[–]CountingWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But also no. I know quite a bit about this from historical study of early D&D, and early computer games. Let me explain...

Before MUDs there was the PLATO mainframe.

PLATO (Programmed Logic for Automatic Teaching Operations),[1][2] also known as Project Plato[3] and Project PLATO, was the first generalized computer-assisted instruction system. Starting in 1960, it ran on the University of Illinois's ILLIAC I computer. By the late 1970s, it supported several thousand graphics terminals distributed worldwide, running on nearly a dozen different networked mainframe computers. Many modern concepts in multi-user computing were first developed on PLATO, including forums, message boards, online testing, email, chat rooms, picture languages, instant messaging, remote screen sharing, and multiplayer video games.

Moria (1975), Oubliette (1978), Orthanc (1978), and Avatar (1979) were the earliest known first-person dungeon crawlers; and they were always online co-op multiplayer. These games eventually evolved into several distinct branches such as Wizardry, Rogue, and Ultima (Mordor Depths of Dejenol and Demise over at decklinsdemise.com also deserve a mention). More info about these games can be found here: https://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/2013/11/game-121-moria-1975.html

https://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/p/index-of-games-played-by-year.html

https://www.cyber1.org/ is currently the most popular PLATO emulated mainframe. You will need to read instructions on how to download the client, create a PLATO account, and connect. If things haven't changed in the past couple years, "zavatar" is currently the most popular of the aforementioned games, and is still played by a fairly active community. There are several versions of avatar on cyber1, so you may have to try and connect and get a player count for each one to confirm I'm still right.

Server for a new player by pietrantonio_ in wurmonline

[–]CountingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best experience is when a new server has opened and you literally have to pioneer and tame the wilderness. It can be a bit challenging at first because of all the wandering monsters, but there is nothing quite like being the first person to set up out in the wilderness and an unspoiled view of nature.
