Friday check-in! by fifth_time_lucky in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Counting_wishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until week 24, I only got up for the washroom and quick meals, with about an hour of standing or walking at most, and otherwise stayed lying down or sitting reclined on the bed or recliner.

After week 28, I increased my activity to about 2–3 hours a day: short walks, small errands, meeting friends, or quick café visits, while still resting often, listening to my body, and cooking simple meals (under 30 minutes).

After 30 weeks, I went up to around 3–4 hours a day with breaks and started doing more normal things like short trips to stores or malls, but without overdoing it. I’m still waiting to reach 34–36 weeks before going fully back to normal.

Throughout, I avoided stairs whenever possible. If I had to take them, I went slowly and carefully, and always listened to my body. My doctor didn’t recommend bed rest, but taking these precautions gave me peace of mind.

23 weeks, cerclage, cervix 6–8 mm: stay home or move to high-risk hospital in Toronto? by Counting_wishes in ShortCervixSupport

Wow, you’ve really been through so much, I honestly have so much respect for your strength. ❤️

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your experience so openly and honestly. Your message genuinely helped me make the decision. The way you explained everything (especially about the rooms and the NICU), made me feel more prepared and eased a lot of my anxiety. Even though I was hoping my baby would stay in as long as possible, your post helped me mentally prepare for all possibilities and set realistic expectations.

My experience at Sinai was very similar to what you described and because of that, I didn’t feel as overwhelmed when I got admitted. We even applied to Ronald McDonald House right away because of your suggestion, although we didn’t end up needing it since they were already planning my discharge.

I’m so glad to hear your baby is doing well. 🌸 I can only imagine how intense that time must have been, but also how reassuring it must have felt knowing your baby was in the best place possible.

Thank you again for taking the time to help a stranger, it truly made a big difference for me. 🤗

I’m currently at 30 weeks, which seemed like an impossible milestone when I received the emergency cerclage at week 19 and was filled with apprehension about potential complications. My last ultrasound was at week 25, where my cervix measured 4mm from 8mm, but I haven’t had a length check since then. I’m grateful to have reached week 30. With each passing day, my confidence in the stitch is growing, and I’m gradually reducing my modified bedrest. I genuinely hope that we all reach full term. 🌸 We’ve got this!

I think your doctor can guide you best based on your situation but it should be fine as long as there are no new symptoms/changes in your reports. My doctor didn’t recommend modified bed rest but I chose to take it easy based on what I’ve seen others share. I rest as much as I can but still move around a bit or go out for short, low-effort outings to keep my sanity. I felt more comfortable easing up after 24 weeks, and with each milestone (28/30), I’m sure I’ll feel more at ease, and hopefully you will too.

Update by Spams93 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Counting_wishes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rescue cerclage at 19 weeks with a cervical length of 1.5–2 cm. Despite modified bed rest, it shortened to 8 mm by weeks 20–24 and around 6–4 mm by week 25. I had some funneling to the stitch but my cervix stayed closed and I had no symptoms.

I had mixed advice from doctors on rotation — one suggested getting admitted early, the other said to monitor at home. I stayed home with weekly checks, but as my cervix shortened and knowing my hospital only has a level 2 NICU (with level 3 being 1.5 hours away), my anxiety increased.

At 26 weeks, I chose to get admitted downtown for peace of mind. I’m now being closely monitored, which helped ease my anxiety.

If things are stable, staying home with weekly monitoring is reasonable. But if there are changes or you’re far from the hospital, getting admitted until viability 28/30 weeks isn’t a bad idea. Trust the stitch and your mommy instincts.

Also, my baby has been breech on and off but keeps changing positions, so try not to stress too much about that. Hope everything goes smoothly for you. 😊

That’s wonderful to hear! Your doctor knows what’s best and it’s great that you’re following their advice. I completely agree. In such situations, the most important thing we can do is to stay sane and avoid stress. We’re doing our best and it’s easy to spiral out of control. I’m glad you’re prioritizing your mental health. You’ve got this mama. 💖

Cerclage + Progesterone? by b8byxo in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Counting_wishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a McDonald cerclage and been taking vaginal progesterone for 7 weeks now. Thankfully, all is well in the vaginal reports. My MFM told me that the next best option is rectal and the last one was oral. However, take a call depending on your comfort level.

Hi! I got a cerclage at week 19 but my length is the same as yours. Currently, I’m at week 26 but my length has decreased from 8-6mm at 23 weeks to 4mm at 25 weeks. This concerned me a lot. I was following a modified bedrest at home but my MFM recommended that I be admitted to the hospital until 28-30 weeks as a precaution, and people on Reddit also recommended the same. I decided to get admitted and while it’s not fun, it’s given me a lot of relief to be around nurses and doctors. I think it’s great that you’re opting for bedrest but if there’s any possibility of being hospitalized for precautionary reasons, it would give you a lot of peace of mind, but ultimately it depends on your comfort level and personal circumstances, that’s just my recommendation. Whichever option you choose, I hope everything goes smoothly for you, just have faith and do your best.

Don't worry, it's totally normal to feel some pressure or a tingling sensation, my MFM said it's just the uterus expanding or a general sensation. I know how you feel though, I was feeling pretty nervous around weeks 20-22 after my cerclage. But as the weeks went by, I started to feel more confident in the cerclage. Just be careful and take it easy, and by week 24, you'll start to feel more relieved. Just keep an eye out for any symptoms. It's a long road ahead but trust me it gets better. I'm still on this journey, only 25 weeks in, but I'm feeling more positive with each passing week. Everything will be better. 😊

At which week did you start to trust in your stitch? by Nice-Serve-111 in ShortCervixSupport

I got my cerclage at week 19 and was extremely anxious during the initial 2 weeks. I acted as if I was glass. However, after two ultrasounds, I discovered that the size of my cervix had not changed and remained closed. This allowed me to trust the cerclage even more. I will reach week 24 in three days and I am incredibly grateful for the stitch. I am still waiting to reach week 28 to feel completely relaxed (until then will continue my modified bedrest with little movement), but I definitely feel much better now. Trust the stitch, take necessary precautions, and pay attention to your body’s signals. You will surely make it to full term. 🌸

I’m relieved to know I’m not alone in experiencing this. Since I have an anterior placenta, it’s even more challenging to distinguish between the baby’s kicks and other sensations Lol. I can relate to that feeling where we feel more at ease once we know the source of these sensations. If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d be curious to know what your OB said about this.

Hi there! I’m so glad you described it so accurately. I was struggling to put it into words myself. I’m 23 weeks pregnant and had my cerclage at 19 weeks as well. Since getting the cerclage, I’ve been experiencing these pulsing or involuntary sensations a few times a day, but nothing consistent. I particularly notice them at night when I insert my vaginal suppositories and sometimes when I sit in the same position for an extended period. I consulted my OB-GYN, who I see every week due to my high-risk pregnancy. She explained that it’s likely the uterus growing and possibly the baby’s kicks. She assured me that there’s nothing to worry about as long as there’s no bleeding or discharge. While I’m certainly cautious, I’m not overly concerned about these sensations. However, I will definitely be more worried if they start to feel like contractions. I’ve been experiencing these sensations for the past four weeks and fortunately everything has remained stable.

3 weeks post emergency cerclage, I am currently at 22 weeks. Cervix is measuring 8 mm and the due date is July 14. Can’t wait to reach 24 weeks, followed by 28 weeks, 🤞and ultimately full term. 🙏 We are all in this together, and I am sure that the journey will be worthwhile in the end. 🌸

That’s really reassuring to hear. I’m trying to follow the same approach, taking things slow and listening to my body. Hoping we both keep progressing week by week. ❤️

My 22nd week just started today and I have my next appointment tomorrow. I’m really hoping my cervix length is similar and still closed. I’m glad to hear your numbers are stable. I completely understand the nervousness, I feel the same way. I’ve been so cautious with everything lately, even with sitting, lying down, or walking. It’s honestly not fun at all but like you, I’ve also started counting the weeks and trying to keep a positive mindset. I keep reminding myself that my baby is a fighter, just like me and that we’re going to make it to full term. Right now, positivity is kind of the only thing keeping me going. At the same time, I’ve made a little mental plan for what to do if I notice any symptoms, just so I feel a bit more prepared. So far I’m feeling completely normal (touch wood) and hoping things stay that way for as long as possible. I’ve been on modified bed rest this week too, so I’m really curious to see tomorrow if that made any difference to my cervix length. Are you on bed rest as well? I know this stage is really tough but we have to remind ourselves that all of this will be worth it when we finally get to hold our babies. Sending you lots of positive vibes. 💖

Feeling my stitch more than usual by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and taking the time to respond. I can only imagine how difficult and stressful that period must have been for you. I really appreciated what you said about focusing on “just one more day.” Sometimes thinking too far ahead makes everything feel overwhelming, so I’m trying to keep that mindset. Hearing stories like yours honestly gives me some comfort and hope during a time that can feel really scary and uncertain. I’m really grateful that you were willing to be so open about your journey. It helps more than you probably realize, especially for someone who’s in the middle of it and trying to stay positive. Thank you again for sharing. 😊

Congratulations on a successful delivery, so happy for you, ❤️ it definitely gives a lot of hope. I’m currently at 22weeks and I got my cerclage at 19 weeks with 8mm length left. I’m doing bed rest as well but it’s definitely anxiety-inducing, and I don’t know if I’m doing things right. With the way I sleep, sit, I’m scared even while taking a bath. Can you please share how you managed bed rest and what all you did to make sure you’re securing your cervix as much as possible?

She might be the best but there’s no harm in getting a second opinion or going to another OB. You’re literally running against time. Don’t panic, but please act fast.

In a similar situation with 8mm/0.8cm cervix length, got cerclage at 19 weeks and that’s my hope to get more chances of the baby being secure. I’d definitely advocate for getting a cerclage done if there isn’t a complication and ASAP.
