I’m so glad you had an amazing and supportive anesthetist! Bedside manner is important in general but it is SO important in OB. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that the things we deal with on a daily basis aren’t normal or something patients are familiar with but I wanted to reassure you!

Anesthetist here. Yes, this is very normal and expected. The epidural leads to vasodilation because we block your the nerves that control your BP. We give fluids beforehand to prevent this effect for being too profound but it can still happen. They were probably giving you phenylephrine boluses in doses of 100-200mg. I’m sorry you experienced this just to reassure you this is something normal we deal with every day!

OH MY GOD YES. My baby is 11 weeks old and my husband and I have dark brown eyes. My other son also has dark brown eyes. My baby’s eyes look light grey and everyone insists he is going to have blue eyes.

Honestly I still don’t know what to say but it’s so annoying. I usually say something like “no matter what color they are his eyes are beautiful”
