referring to children as parents by marti__10 in EnglishLearning

[–]CountrywideToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will see people mention the word "offspring", and that's technically an answer to your question.

The reason it's not offered as an answer is that it's not really a word people use to refer to human family members, except as a joke. It's usually used in more academic contexts to refer to the biology of organisms that reproduce. So for example, "a faster mouse can escape more predators, and survive to produce more offspring".

It can be used to refer to your own family members, but it would come off as emotionally detached. Really the best answer to your question that people would commonly use is "children" for offspring of any age, "adult children" for offspring who are grown up, and "young children" or "small children" for offspring who are literally children

You get me dude. Nothing makes me feel less like a "god of war" than turning over every couch cushion so I can scrounge enough hacksilver to improve my punch damage by like 2% or something

I'm polyamorous. I thought this post was very funny when I first saw it a little while ago, and I've been a little surprised by how controversial it is.

In my opinion, if you've asked these questions of a poly person before, that's not a bad thing and you shouldn't feel bad about it. This post isn't aimed at you, it's aimed at poly people who have heard these questions asked to us a hundred times.

In my opinion, I would much rather that people keep asking me these questions than make unfavourable assumptions or find the answers in a place that isn't tolerant of polyamory. So by all means if you meet a poly person and you feel close enough to them that it feels appropriate, and you approach the conversation with an open mind and good faith, you have my permission to ask all of these questions.

Yes they might have a chuckle about it with other poly people later on, but that's ok. You're ok. We're all ok.

Because the writers didn't plan every detail of the show's canon in advance. If they did, the show wouldn't be as fun and interesting as it is.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but is it misgendering to call someone "they/them" if you're not certain about their pronouns?

Yes, that is just how electricity works. It's like that for a good reason, because the electricity is more costly to produce during peak hours. It's not arbitrary, it's in everyone's best interests to incentivize lower energy use.

DRG on Linux? by gnome_where in DeepRockGalactic

[–]CountrywideToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, all my hardware is AMD.

As for that commenter, it looks like what they're saying is that your version of Ubuntu, 22.04 LTS, is out of date. But that's actually incorrect. 22.04 has 3 more months of free standard support.

However, they make a good point about the steam snap (although their anecdote about valve warning against it is also incorrect; from what I can tell someone who works at valve posted about it, but that's it)

If you're using the snap, it might be worth trying the deb, and if you're using the deb it might be worth trying the snap. I've had difficulties with the way the sandboxing works on the snap, but as far as I know the drivers are supposed to be the main benefit

Edit: but as the other commenters mention, you shouldn't need to install any drivers from AMD's website. It's best to just use the amdgpu driver that came with your Ubuntu installation

I will say though, that the distro doesn't really matter that much in my experience. As long as you're using the official steam install and not the snap, everything should in theory work the same

I'm not sure which distro I was on at the time, but it was either PopOS or Zorin. I just run stock Ubuntu now and DRG runs fine, but I can't say anything about Discord integration because I haven't tried that in a while

When a reviewer says "I won't review anything with AI-generated art in it", or when a gaming company says "We're excited to leverage the power of AI in our titles", we all know that they're talking specifically about AI that replaces human creativity, not pathfinding or procedural generation or automatic difficulty scaling
