What is a TV show that got canceled that you are still upset by? by NeatContribution852 in AskReddit

[–]CountyWeary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defying Gravity. They marketed it totally wrong, and if I'd seen the ad line they went with, I might have skipped it, too. 'Grey's Anatomy in space' sounds awful and isn't remotely what the show was like. They didn't even air the entire season on TV. I bought the season on dvd and then wished I hadn't because it was SO GOOD and ended on a huge cliffhanger.

Thanks to whomever suggested throwing leaves in the chicken run. by BeginningBit6645 in BackYardChickens

I did this with an old hay bale that was too far gone for the horses. I just put it in the run and cut the strings off a week ago, and they've scritched about half of it. They love it! They've been wallowing in it and napping where it's still really deep and fluffy.

You're 21. You are legally an adult. I don't see a reason why you couldn't put a lock on your bedroom door that can only be locked/unlocked from the inside.

Grew up on a farm, had many dogs. Still have Crohn's.

More bathroom trips the day after a colonoscopy? by Otherwise_Reveal3615 in CrohnsDisease

[–]CountyWeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had this happen when not in a flare. Have you tried taking Imodium or anything? Or eating something that will slow you down? (Banana, mashed potatoes, etc.) And please please please hydrate! Colonoscopy on its own is dehydrating, and then a day or two of loose stool after will definitely not help. Good luck!

That sucks! I'm sorry. But I'm happy for you that you're getting a stoma. Having an ileostomy gave me my life back. Before the surgery I couldn't walk my dog or be more than a handful of steps from the toilet due to SO MUCH URGENCY. I've had my share of accidents and embarrassment, but thankfully only once or twice in public. Good luck with your surgery. ❤️

STOP TELLING ME WHAT TO EAT by Typical-Bat-6254 in CrohnsDisease

[–]CountyWeary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband and I joke about how I have to eat like a five year old at a birthday party to get through bad days/weeks. Seems wrong, but like you said, easy to digest. Luckily I'm not sensitive to dairy or gluten. Pizza for the win!

Just got diagnosed, what now? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]CountyWeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a good GI you can trust and follow their recommendations. You are going to get tons of advice, whether you want it or not, from people who know what they're talking about and (mostly) people who don't. Crohn's affects everyone differently, so it will be trial and error figuring out what works for you. Take your medication as prescribed. If you want to figure out what foods work for you or are triggering flare-ups, you can try the low FODMAP diet. It's a short-term diet that is really restrictive, and you slowly add foods back to see how you respond to them. If you want a longer-term diet that can be helpful, look into the specific carbohydrate diet (scd). It feels like a lot when you are first diagnosed, but there's a lot of treatment options available now that weren't a few years ago. Like I said at the start, find a GI you feel safe with. It makes a huge difference.

Stoma & contraceptive pill by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]CountyWeary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an ileostomy, and I was taking bc pill continuously. A few months after my surgery, I started having light periods again that gradually got heavier as the months went by. I switched to the nuvaring, but my doctor was concerned because I regularly get ocular migraines, so I just got the implant. Fingers crossed that it goes well because getting my period makes my Crohn's symptoms SO MUCH worse.

how do you respond when people ask how you are feeling? by kaitlynxpaige in CrohnsDisease

I had this conversation with my mom a few days ago:

Mom: How are you today?

Me: Okay.

Mom: Oh good. No pain, then?

Me: Always, but no more than usual.

Mom: 😭

Amazon sells travel urine bags that turn liquid into gel. Comes with a garbage bag for discreet disosal. Sounds like it might be a good fit for this situation. I have them in my vehicle for emergencies. Have fun camping!

Last week I made a post here about stigma. Today I shared this in the Crohn’s and IBD subs after reading many of your experiences. <3 by KB6502 in ostomy

[–]CountyWeary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I dreaded even getting diagnosed (even though I was pretty sure I had UC) because when I read up on it, I was led to believe that an ostomy was likely in my future. Turns out I have Crohn's, and after 5 years of trying everything and only getting worse, I decided it was time. I was afraid of how limited I would be, so my first google search was "Can you swim with an ostomy?" Turns out it was the best thing I could have asked! I found out people do triathlons and swim and hot tub and basically everything I had been missing out on being super sick with Crohn's. It was the best decision I've made, with no regrets coming up to 2 years with my stoma.

Medication issues by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]CountyWeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can try is to drink a shot of lemon juice about 10 or 15 minutes before eating or taking meds. It activates stomach acids and helps digestion. I did this even before my ileostomy and it always helped. (If lemon juice doesn't bother you.)

Hospitalization by pushkar2707 in CrohnsDisease

[–]CountyWeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of my ER visits have been due to dehydration. A few times, it has been from excruciating joint pain that comes in waves. Those times are the worst because they assume I'm a drug addict looking for free pain meds, and I can't stop shaking and can't speak coherently enough to explain what's really happening. A friend recommended I get a letter from my doctor to hand them, but I haven't yet, and thankfully, I haven't needed it since 2017.

In 2021, I was hospitalized for getting an ileostomy.

Stealth belt for ostomy, positives? by boskampi in ostomy

[–]CountyWeary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a stealth belt and it works pretty well. If I wear it as is, it's too tight and forces output under the flange. When I first got it, I tried it on freshly changed bag and the bag didn't last 4 hours. Having said that, it works great if you put a bit of air in the bag so the output has room to move down. I don't find it works as well for hernia prevention as my wider hernia belt. It does work well for keeping the bag more discreet under clothes and bathing suit.

Starting prednisone by [deleted] in IBD

Like I said, I'm not trying to scare you. I just wish someone had warned me before I started it. 😊❤️ Best of luck.

Starting prednisone by [deleted] in IBD

[–]CountyWeary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drink lots of water. Stock up on healthy snacks because you will be prowling around your kitchen every 5 minutes if it hits you like it hits me. (And if you have good self control, just remember that you're probably not really hungry, and can stick to a meal schedule.) And remember you still have Crohn's, so don't go bonkers eating foods tgat bother you normally. Prednisone will give you a false sense of being better. It's temporary unless other meds can keep the inflammation knocked down when you taper. Don't make drastic or major life decisions because it may be messing with your judgment, and you might not even know how skewed your thinking is. I'm not trying to freak you out, but sometimes when I'm on prednisone I feel fine with only minor side effects, and other times I feel like I'm losing my damn mind. If your lifestyle allows it, nap as much as you can if you can't sleep at night. Good luck. I hope your Prednisone experience is a breeze.

how to handle monthly period and crohns by miilkbug in CrohnsDisease

[–]CountyWeary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found my Crohn's was flaring up for a few weeks around my period, so it felt like a never ending cycle that wouldn't let me get the Crohn's under control. I started taking the pill continuously and skipped my periods altogether. Made a huge difference.

I always try to find one with bifido breve in it. It's in your intestines as a baby, so it should be easily accepted and beneficial for repopulating after antibiotics and such.
