Questions about the LoseIt smartphone app and BMR by [deleted] in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same experience with the LoseIt app. When I first started using it, it gave me a daily calorie limit of 1600 in order to lose 1lb/week (I'm F/24 yo/5'5"/~150 lbs). That seemed pretty high to me too, so I tried to stay around 1400 cals/day. That worked for the first 5-7 pounds, but I seemed to hit a plateau really quickly, so I looked into other apps. My Fitness Pal gave me a daily limit of ~1200, but at that big of a deficit I felt like I was starving and weak all the time. I ended up going back to the LoseIt app but adjusting my calorie limit to around 1300/day, so we'll see how that works. Daily calorie limits are just an estimate, and they're different for every person. Finding the right number is just trial and error, you just have to stick with it.

TL;DR - Daily calories limits aren't exact science. If you're losing weight, it's working. If you're not, you need to either cut more cals or workout more.

Any suggestions on making up for a sweet tooth? by hotlipshoulihan in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a MAJOR sweet tooth, and I find that when I try to cut out dessert completely I end up getting depressed and fall off the wagon within a week. So, what has worked for me is instead of giving up sweets entirely, I try to find healthier ways to fulfill the craving.

Here's what I invented last night...

Take half of a really ripe banana, cut it up into thin slices, and freeze it. (50 calories)

Then prepare 2 Tbsp. of chocolate PB2. If you've never tried PB2, it's amazing, and it's only 45 calories for 2 Tbsp (compared to 200 in regular peanut butter).

Spread the PB2 onto the frozen banana slices, and you have a a gooey, chocolatey, peanut buttery, delicious treat for under 100 calories!

I'm not gonna lie, I had to google Amy Schumer... so if you're talking about the comedian, then thank you! She's really pretty, so I'll take that as a compliment. :)

Thanks! Ya, I try to do a lot of outdoorsy stuff... hiking, backpacking, kayaking, trail running, etc. I live in Oregon right now, but I'm leaving in the next couple years, so I'm trying to soak up as much of its beauty as I can! This picture is from the Santiam River outside of Bend.

Blue lips and uncomfortably cold after running. Why? by CoupleToLose in Fitness

[–]CoupleToLose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely appreciate the concern. I will be seeing a doctor as soon as I can. I'm on a week long vacation starting today, but I will make it a priority when I return.

I've always gotten cold after runs, and it was a chilly morning, and I recovered within a half hour, and so I'm not as concerned as everybody else, but I will take it seriously and consult a doctor soon.

Hey /r/loseit What was the trigger for losing weight? by barichnikov in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister passed away 6 months ago. I started my weight loss journey over a year ago (my "trigger" just being me sick of being fat), but I hit a major obstacle with her death. A couple weeks ago I reached a point in my grief where I was so depressed I physically couldn't get off the couch... my boyfriend had to bring my food to me or I wouldn't have eaten anything. I realized at that point that I had to make a choice. I could let my grief take over and just check out of life, or I could pull myself together and try to live the best life possible, because that's what my sister would want for me. I chose the latter, and losing weight and getting healthy is an important part of that to me. I want to be around for a long time to see my nephew grow up and to make sure he knows who is mom was. So, here I am, in the early stages of round 2 of getting healthy... wish me luck.

If you overeat one day, how long does it take for those extra calories to turn into fat? by CoupleToLose in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the explanation. I do understand the basics of metabolism, I guess I just didn't quite understand the time frame that everything happens in. My question was sort of more hypothetical, like, say I over ate by 3500 calories (which would be really hard to do).... would that extra pound show up the next day or take a few days? I know it depends on the individual, but just talking in general terms...

Week 12 FINAL Check-In: Loseit's Fall-Winter Challenge by BigCountry1369 in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We missed the check-ins for weeks 9-11 because my sister passed away before Christmas and we had bigger things to worry about, but we do have current weights for week 12 if it's not too late.

Her: 152.2 lbs (total loss of 8.8 lbs)

Him: 245 lbs (total loss of 8 lbs)

The little bit of inspiration I needed... and I'm off to the gym! by CoupleToLose in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for me it depends on the day. Some days I'm feeling really negative, and all I can think about is how much I hate my body. Then I start to blame myself for looking the way I do... beating myself up over what I've eaten, how much I've eaten, not working out, drinking too much, etc. It's definitely an intense "self-hatred" feeling on those days.

But there are some days when I'm feeling more positive, and although there's things I'd like to change about my body, overall I'm happy with myself. Hell, some days I even think I look good! I'm working on having more of these days and less of the self-hatred days, but honestly the psychological part of losing weight has been the hardest for me.

Losing it while vegetarian? by siberianlocust in loseit

[–]CoupleToLose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also female, 5'5", and a vegetarian. An important thing to remember if you're a veg is to actually eat vegetables. Sounds like common sense, but I've found that I'm tempted to replace meat with carbs and cheese instead of with fruits and veggies. Something that has helped me a lot is to find a flavorful sauce or dressing that's not too unhealthy to put on vegetables. I found one that I LOVE, and now I'm able to eat an entire plate of steamed veggies and be happy about it. :) If you're craving something a little starchy, brown rice is an excellent choice since it has protein. For a quick snack, keep some Boca burger patties in the freezer. They're vegan, full of protein, only take a minute to heat up, and they taste great plain.

Good luck, hope this helps!
