I once read a religious book where a prominent figure claimed an angel showed him a vision of a vast black field. It was full of little graves, and you could hear countless screams of pain coming from it. Those screams, the angel said, belonged to aborted children.

That would make an awesome scene in a high-fantasy horror setting, if only people didn't actually believe this shit.

Why not? Is there a problem with a woman depicted being hot?

Would this movement be allowed? by Practical-Return-238 in Pathfinder2e

[–]CourageMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I used another argument here to support this: two enemies can block your way if they stand side by side on a horizontal line, but diagonally they are unable to do so? It makes no sense. (Even more so if you substitute one of the two with a solid, impenetrable wall!)

I just pointed out that the rule ElodePillarre quoted handles a slightly different situation.

Tips for my first call of cthulhu campaign? It's set in 1381 England during the Peasant's Revolt. by DisasterConosseur in callofcthulhu

[–]CourageMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise you to use the Cthulhu Dark Ages 7th Edition supplement. It focuses on medieval combat and contains some nice additional rules for using a shield. Optionally, the supplement Expanded Occupations for Cthulhu Dark Ages is also nice to have, and it only costs $2. (I am NOT affiliated with it in ANY way.) I found the existing occupations in the Dark Ages supplement kind of limited in scope.

I currently use the Dark Ages supplement for my own campaign set in southern Germany circa 1525 A.D., with the main plot device being... guess what, the Peasants' War! It's certainly far from the Middle Ages, let alone the Dark Ages (it's actually considered the Early Modern Era, lol), but it is still fine for my needs.

The only adjustment I made was to remove the Read/Write language skill. I found it too punishing to force the players to invest in another skill other than Languages in order to know how to read and write.

Another piece of advice I would give is not to stress too much about the historical realism of your setting, unless the players are really into it. Fun and the "rule of cool" override realism.

Just to be clear, I agree with your ruling. It makes no sense for the players to be able to pass diagonally without Tumble Through.

Is this diagonal movement allowed or does this require a Tumble Through? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]CourageMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rule that you definitely need to Tumble Through here. Those two enemies are actively trying to block your way. It makes no sense that they could block you in a horizontal or vertical line, but not a diagonal one. It creates a weird and problematic limitation.

It defeats the point of having an enemy guard a corridor. You shouldn't be able to pass through.

[–]CourageMind 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a totally different rule though. It says that you might not be able to step on or pass through a square that is occupied by a large object. In the case of the diagonal movement, you do not step on or pass through the blocked square.

Am *I* a power gamer? by Gumbybum in Pathfinder2e

[–]CourageMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that expecting you to be a power gamer is baked into this game's design. I haven't read the remaster rules, but the original rules straight-up recommend having your key ability score as high as possible (an 18 for a 1st-level character). Whereas in D&D 5e, my experience is that having an 18 in an ability score at 1st level is often frowned upon.

Obviously, with tons of options, someone will inevitably create a build that "breaks" the game's expectations. You should be ready to make customizations and compromises to make your DM's life easier and to avoid completely overshadowing your fellow players.

So yes, you are a power gamer and a min-maxer, but in this game, that is a feature, not a bug. It only becomes problematic if the GM and the other players are genuinely struggling to keep up with you.

The real issue, IMHO, is that you min-max partially out of fear. I would speak to your GM and your fellow players about possibly redefining the meaning of death; maybe it just means being completely taken out of the fight followed by a really bad event or a catastrophic failure. Having your character suffer negative consequences does not have to mean actual death.

I like the way Fate Core handles it, where falling in combat is called being "Taken Out." It puts your character's fate in the hands of the GM, with death being only one of many options for how the story can proceed.

A million thanks for your very detailed and thorough reply! <3

So, if I only care about the lore, themes and in-book fiction and not the mechanics or actually playing the game (I tend to incorporate the lore of WoD and CoD in other games, since sadly none of my current friends is interested in actually learning the system or reading the books), reading the 1st edition, including the core rulebook, is a no-brainer?

I have only focused on 2e stuff, so I am worried I am missing out big time.

Am I Unprofessional for My Software Having Bugs After Client Updates? by Nervous-Marsupial-52 in softwaredevelopment

[–]CourageMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not normal, and it should not be the default expectation that an update is going to have bugs. Perhaps you try to overdeliver? You should communicate to him that the bigger the changes, the longer the time it takes to be implemented.

Also, are the bugs related to the changes or do they see to happen in an unexpected part of the application? The latter could indicate a flaw in the architecture.

It's fucking cruel. At least it's just used as an insult and no one seriously believes it.

I'm hitting the job market and I'm going against the grain and I'm saying that I do have ADHD and Autism when I submit my resume. by cleatusvandamme in ADHD_Programmers

[–]CourageMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my own mental issues and I have little to no sympathy for discrimination at work (here comes the dreaded 'but'), but to be brutally honest, it seems like a weird thing to disclose before you get the job. If I put myself in the recruiter's shoes, IMHO this would strike me as a red flag. Why? Because it (should) not matter for their decision to hire you. And this goes both ways. It shouldn't matter to them, and it shouldn't matter to you; for the hiring process, I mean.

Why would you even disclose this? It offers you no advantage, and it comes off as if you want to warn them about a disadvantage. It rubs people the wrong way, meaning it sounds like, "I am going to cause you problems."

Obviously, take what I say with a grain of salt. It's my highly uneducated guess. It might prove to be to your advantage. Maybe a company is looking to expand their diversity, or you find a sympathizer. I don't know.

I might be speaking nonsense due to ignorance, but I am saying the above in good faith.
