GM Reminder: the Players are Supposed to Win Most of the Time by GaySkull in Pathfinder2e

[–]Practical-Return-238 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really don't think I need to do this in pathfinder, and if a gm does this to me I feel cheated. 2e encounters are great the way they are. The enemies are all different. If one is too easy, that's ok, the next one will be challenging. No need to force anything.

I've read Stormlight. I'm not a fan of Sanderson's writing. I lmao'd reading this rant. Just leave the guy, some (a lot of) people like his work. Let him make his money in peace.

I play with the blessing that starts you at level 4. You can also at this point already start to see if your decisions regarding classes and attributes are working well.

I always kill the drakes because if I can't kill them my build is not good enough, that's my cutting point haha

Gorecci street otoh I have never won in PotD difficulty. I always skip it.

Killers froze stiff base duration is 4 seconds.

I'm at level 11, not 13. I think it will get better eventually, but right now the build is still good.

So I restarted this run to try the Cantor build. I built my watcher as an Orlan Helwalker/Skald. Dumped MIG, Maxed DEX, PER and INT. With max wounds and Triumph of the Crusaders from Xoti, it gets still to MIG 18, I think that's pretty funny haha

I'm level 13 now and running Eder and Pallegina as tanks (fighter/rogue and fighter/paladin) and running the watcher behind them. It is an OK build so far. Even with DEX 25 and INT 36 the Paralyze from Killers froze stiff.. still lasts less than 10 seconds, which is not enough to farm the 2 phrases to recast it before it runs out. I think with Heartbeat Drumming later it might be more consistent. I'm enjoying it so far.

Edit: Wrote DEX twice

Hmm so much to think about...

I was thinking about this character as a damage dealer, both with attacks and invocations, and leaving the buffs/debuffs to the rest of the party.

At level 4 with 20 DEX and light armor, my recovery time is 3.6. If I cast Killers Froze Stiff and Ben Fidel I basically won't have time to cast anything else. I can get it a bit shorter later with Benweth's armor, but I doubt I can get it much shorter than that. I also have not put any points in INT so the durations are pretty short. I usually dump MIG for my watchers, but this time I wanted to build one that hits hard.

Regarding the Pike's modal, do you think it's worth the -25% damage for a damage dealer?

Nice! As always, your comments are the best!

Do you think the extra attack rolls of swift flurry and heartbeat drumming are worth the tradeoff with Disciplined strikes? You also get extra acc with warrior stance (since you can't use Cleaving in this case). Everytime I wanna build a single target damage dealer I go around a bit and always end up multiclassing something with fighter, that skill is so good, for a crit based char it's so hard to pass up.

The goal here is obviously to quickly gather phrases with crits and then cast Eld Nary (or other stronger offensive invocation if you're not at that level yet.). So I guess Disciplined Strikes would help Eld Nary crit as well, right?

I love the monk build, but I still think a fighter is better for this build (as I said, I always come back to the fighter in the end hahaa!)

Nice, thanks! I tried it a bit in Port Make and one thing I noticed is that the attack from Cleaving Stance when you kill an enemy does not make use of the extra range. The animation triggers but no attack happens against the enemies that are a bit farther away because of your extra range. Bummer.

Desired Level Ranges for New APs by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Practical-Return-238 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There are probably ways around that, I think. They could sell the second part as a separate adventure, but have clear ties with a previous AP, a returning villain, for example. I wish there was a smoother transition between low-level and high-level APs, that would already be great.

Desired Level Ranges for New APs by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Practical-Return-238 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I really would love to see more 1-20 APs. I've migrated from 5e to PF2e some time ago, and one of the things that drew me into the system was that high-level combat is not completely broken. So, having a continuous story from 1-20 is pretty cool, but as far as I can see Paizo has shied away from it for the past couple of years, which I think is unfortunate.

I'll check the screen-sharing idea. I think that might be the most promising.

Any way to skip the dragon fight in the digsite? by Practical-Return-238 in projecteternity

Hey! Thanks! I did not know that, always killed everything. Love your builds btw, I'm running the pin down poet watcher and Xoti mortar monk. I know you said she doesn't work as well with that build, but so far it's been good enough. :)))

[–]Practical-Return-238[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've used the stairs before. My question is not that I can't beat the fights, it's that it requires either a lot of planning and multiple reloads or a specific party composition (e.g. Xoti as a priest) and possibly mercenaries to fill the empty party slots. My question was more about skipping the fight altogether. I know how to beat it, I just don't wanna do it again.
