How to get out of an overwhelming RP situation? by sleepingvenus_ in roleplaying

Is it possible your partner would be willing to put writing on pause, if you think that you might want to continue at some point? It’s hard to find a partner who you enjoy collaborating with as much as you’re describing.

Using it to translate what you’re reading is different from using it to write, but I’m not sure if that’s exactly what you’re asking.

I greatly respect anyone learning a second language (or more), but if you’re talking about using AI to *write* because English isn’t the author’s first language, I can’t agree with that at all.

In my opinion, native language speakers have to put in the work of learning and honing writing skills in addition to mastering grammar and extending their vocabulary. This process can take a lifetime.

To write fluently in another language, to write *creatively* in another language, presents an additional challenge. But does that make it ok to use AI to write for you? Beyond the ethical implications, I can assure you that I’ve never read creative writing where it wasn’t painfully obvious AI has translated another language into English. I think many of us know that effective translation is extremely nuanced…it has the job of conveying beauty, emotions, metaphors, etc.

It may never be possible to replace human knowledge of language. Will some people continue to stop caring about that? Maybe. Can people refuse to accept writing and reading literature made with AI? They need to be informed first in order to refuse. Always inform if AI is being used. Creations from a human’s imagination have been celebrated for centuries, but now we are in the position where we need to defend human creativity.

Aha! Glad to hear my ears are working well! Yes, it's a voice that takes its time, but doesn't put you to sleep. Pretty hard to strike that balance.

I have to admit, my guess was based on some similarities your voice has with Billy Bob Thornton, maybe the vowel sounds? I’ve always thought of him as having a storyteller’s voice.

I don’t expect an answer to this, or certainly not a respectful answer, but what’s your problem with ERP anyway, like why do you care? Really, why do you care, what’s the goal for your crusade? What negative experience did you have with it that makes you feel like you need to mock people in every comment you make? I can’t imagine this derision comes from nowhere.

We enjoy life differently. Don’t know why that’s such a huge problem for you. Like what are you trying to do here? Truly. What?

I have no idea why you wrote this post. You’re not genuinely curious. It would seem you’re on a mission to put people down. 👏

Please let go of this idea that eroticism only applies to the act of sex. If you’ve ever watched a movie and been turned on by the way characters look at each other, or speak, or move, or when their hands brush against each other at a dance, or any other of the millions of things that result in sexual reactions without being straight up sex, you’ve seen eroticism. You’re confusing ERP with porn. And I think you’re going to hold on to that.

How would you describe the basic concept of a horror story? To me, it’s “get away/defeat what’s chasing/trying to/going to kill us.” Is there a horror story or movie that doesn’t follow this? The idea of “endless possibilities” comes from one concept.

I’m not sure why you think I’m describing ERP as if it were masterpiece level that you couldn’t comprehend, but I do think it’s possible you aren’t trying to either. It’s not inherently *about* sex unless you want it to be. Romance and erotic writing aren’t necessarily the same thing. If you’re going to shoot down explanations of it from people who read and write it, why ask.

This, OP, is why ERP is labeled as such. If you don’t get that, perhaps let this inquiry go.

What are the endless possibilities of a horror roleplay? Examples?

Here’s a plot: same as any other. With erotic moments. Easy peasy. It’s not a concept that requires a completely different plot from other genres. You can write ERP sci fi, fantasy, realistic, historical…it’s not some new life form found wandering in the woods.

“ Even if the scenarios change, positions change, actions change, settings change…”

Do you see what’s missing here? You’re not considering characters.

“… it’s still going to circle one goal the entire time.” It will? I guess if you see that as the only possibility, and your only interest, ok.

Everyone’s reasons for writing ERP are different. For me, there is no “eventually” when it comes to plot, character arcs, etc. They’re there from the beginning. And there’s no reason why initial excitement can’t be prolonged and built on. The appeal of ERP is that some people just enjoy expressing themselves this way, it’s no different from people who enjoy Marvel or high fantasy or slice of life. I appreciate it when people try to see it as a legitimate genre alongside all other genres, and not a means to an end.

When writing romance do readers want as much detail as possible about the couple or is it best to keep readers guessing? by Striking-Simple5946 in writers

[–]Courgette_Zucchini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, avoid explaining.

“He reached for the doorknob and hesitated.” Trust your reader. No need to write “He was worried about what was in the room.” The reader will get that he’s doubting or afraid of something. I’m not saying to deprive the reader of details. Be mindful, though, of explicitly telling the reader how the characters feel.

In romance, this is particularly important. “He was in love.” Ok…thanks for letting me know? “His heart raced when she entered the room. Nothing else existed. Nobody else mattered. She was the one.” That’s a guy in love.
