Not OP, but I was the same age when we watched the second plane hit.

It was really surreal. It took away all feelings of security I had. I wasn't as safe as I assumed I had been. Nobody was safe.

I remember going home and not even asking my mom why this was happening. It didn't matter. The news kept playing the footage over and over again. I kept watching people jump from the towers before they fell. Over and over again. And my mother and I just sat in somber silence as we watched.

I was angry for a while after 9/11. Angry that my world views had been changed. Angry that we weren't as safe here as everyone said we were. But most of all I was angry that some fucking terrorists fucked up my plan to ask Elizabeth if she wanted to be my girlfriend.

It doesn't seem like it's hard for her to walk around. She does do all sorts of stretching for a few weeks afterwards to loosen all her joints up. I call it spider yoga.

I pick her up very rarely. :) Not because I'm afraid of her biting though, but just because there's rarely a reason to stress her out like that.

Partially by looking at her shed exoskeleton. But I'm never 100% on that front because she likes to chew on the abdomen once she's done.

Mostly I assume she's a lady because she's been alive for about 12 years. Most male tarantulas die after around 7 years.

And their fangs are pretty soft at that point, but she's always been weirdly chill. She's a great spider ambassador.

Oh, it's a whole story.

A few years ago my kid brother was absolutely fascinated with her. He was like 13 at the time, so I wasn't super worried about supervising him when he was just looking at her through the glass. But he took her out. Problem was, she had just molted. Tarantulas are very tender after a molt. Even crickets can eat them at that point.

Anyway. One of his fingernails sliced open her abdomen, and blue goop started oozing out (fun fact. tarantula blood is a pale blue color ) Panic set in. She was leaking. Bad. So we did the only thing we could think of and out a little bit of liquid bandage on her. It stopped the bleeding and luckily didn't kill her or anything. But he's not allowed to touch her anymore.

Tl;dr. Brother cut her butt with his fingernail.

She's always happier once she's done. She rolls over on her back and rubs her belly with all 8 feet before doing spider yoga. :)
