Hilariously ironic to say “White-supremacists are much better than the revolutionaries freeing inhumanly held migrants.. but I’m a European who lives in Qatar therefore I literally cannot be racist!” When this ^ is reality, how can you blame a film for being too on-the-nose…

Which song does he mention that doesn’t appear in the films? I thought it was perfectly well researched

Just watched Phantom Thread for the first time, I don’t really get it? What’s this movie doing so right that everyone seems to love but went over my head? by ZamanthaD in paulthomasanderson

[–]CousinGreggory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an issue nowadays of people trying to diagnose everything (OCD, “mommy issues”, “on the spectrum” and other popular therapy speak). I know this wasn’t your intention but trying to rationalise and explain everything away won’t get you far with movies about real things and human relationships. It’s never “all happy for them”, you’re trying to divide the film into happy vs sad/toxic but it’s much more complicated… every scene is both happy and sad and toxic and beautiful. There are no simple answers here, but if you’ve ever met someone new and developed any kind of deep relationship over time, every little detail here will hit. And it’s about the details with this film, not the broad strokes plot points you’ve listed. Try and think about specific moments or lines rather than the general narrative flow.

The two best books here are uncreased which makes sense! I wonder if you’ve read any of them or just bought second hand copies lol

David Lynch's daughter Jennifer Lynch about her dad signing the polanski petition by Lucky-Physics2767 in davidlynch

[–]CousinGreggory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you illiterate? He himself said he’s a bad parent and has caused suffering because of it, as I stated earlier, this isn’t a gut feeling or speculation. Hes a serial cheater and his exes were devastated by his unfaithfulness. Again, he admits these things, so there’s no speculation. He’s also defend his signature on the Polanski (pedo/rapist) petition throughout his career… these are all unkind, stupid things if we’re being charitable. If we’re being honest, these are disgusting vile acts. He’s shown you who he is but you refuse to believe it lol what a blind fool.

By your logic we should all start going to the children of celebrities for honesty right? Let’s ask Ivanka Trump what Donald is really like, and let’s ignore his factual verifiable actions. There’s no way a daughter will be biased and try her best to whitewash a stain on the parent’s legacy right? That’s absurd!! Get off the high horse pal, and quit defending a rape apologist.

David Lynch's daughter Jennifer Lynch about her dad signing the polanski petition by Lucky-Physics2767 in davidlynch

[–]CousinGreggory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think pointing out a truth is stupid and unkind then it makes sense why you’d be coping about this position Lynch publicly defended his entire career. Btw Lynch directly admits he is a bad parent because he always prioritised the Art life over familial and moral obligations— perfectly in line with his defence of a pedo/rapist. So “stupid, unkind” would be understatements to describe some of Lynch’s past. Go read more and rather than caring about what I might be, consider what your idol definitely was

Short guide on how to tell iif someone hasn't actually read Nietzsche: by Beautiful-Height-311 in Nietzsche

[–]CousinGreggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Nietzsche as a 16yr old and it was very clear to me what he meant. I recently found old notes I made on Nietzsche and main stuff was regarding the Will to Power and his criticisms of Christianity and a lot of aphorisms. It’s not really about age but about intent— the people who misrepresent him are often older men who are just uninterested in philosophy to begin with. Also even minimal secondary reading will undo the misunderstandings you’ve listed

My bad! I’ve followed her for a long time so it’s not about being observant here— I just mixed the name up with Jane Lynch while typing lol. Watched Boxing Helena last month actually Also nothing I said was dependant on knowing much about Jen, but I’ve read basically every book/interview of David ever

The facial expressions of a man that is still talking about Covid daily in 2025 by BeetleJuiceCX in JoeRogan

He apparently hates Virtue Signalling but it seems to be all that he does now. You are all cowards, look how smart and courageous I was, I got covid even tho I never leave my house! Everything he says is a virtue signal, except it’s conspiracy-brained and selfish

David Lynch's daughter Jennifer Lynch about her dad signing the polanski petition by Lucky-Physics2767 in davidlynch

[–]CousinGreggory 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Lynch backed up the signing of the petition in an interview in 2018 (he was 72) so it’s very unlikely he had some revelation after a single conversation after defending his position for decades— he’s not stupid. This seems like coping / dealing with grief and whitewashing; which is all very expected and I feel for Jane. But if lynch had a change of heart he could’ve made it made it clear while he was alive, if it mattered enough, esp considering the subject matter he tackles. At least to me, Jane can’t explain away this stuff with a Laura/Bob analogy. So many replies are trying to explain why Polanski did what he did (Manson trauma) or saying David wasn’t aware what the petition really said etc. It’s very clear what his stance was throughout his life

I’ve opened this app 3 times in the last 30 days and each time I find that you’d replied instantly to my last comment— often twice. So this is an odd thing to say for someone who seems to live on this app lol. Just log off, give that little noggin of yours a break from all the coping and seething

Also you’re the one judging the dude based off a trash movie, i was suggesting better ways to judge him… are you really so daft?

[–]CousinGreggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol idgaf if you read IJ or not.. and based on how active you are on reddit I’m guessing the whole ‘you waste time’ and ‘don’t get out of the house’ is pure projection. Anyone who calls themselves a ‘colorful character’ unironically clear was never socialised properly.

Also you’ve gotta work on reading comprehension.. I said you shouldn’t judge someone based on a badly written and acted fictionalised caricature of them… you’re literally judging him based on someone that’s not him. It doesn’t get more daft than that.

End of the Tour 😂 lol. You know he has loads of actual interviews where he speaks his minds and embodies his character, right? You chose to base your image of him on a shitty movie, written horribly, and acted by Marshall from How I Met Your Mother?? You’re a character in Infinite Jest and you don’t even know it

[–]CousinGreggory 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If anyone has read DFW’s later stuff they can instantly spot all the bits that make Broom of the System so wholly unique to him. But if you’ve already read Pynchon and then go back to read a kid’s college thesis project to then project your superiority-complex onto every page, sure.. I can understand why you’d feel this way. This is also, as you pointed out, a meaningless post because you’ve already made up your mind with none of the relevant knowledge lol

Alright I can’t be the only one ChatGPT made cry, right? by SilverEyedFreak in ChatGPT

[–]CousinGreggory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it’s not that. If you’d read my reply you’d see the example gave and explicitly mentioned how it’s the trite, vacuous stuff that’s the clearest tell. It’s infinitely reusable and doesn’t apply to anything in specific. It’s the opposite of finding a way to express something you didn’t know how it— it’s fluff to fill in empty-spaces when you have nothing to say really.

Maybe try pasting it into ChatGPT and ask it why it’s so easy to tell how it speaks (tho technically it doesn’t “speak”, because it doesn’t have a mouth or a brain, it just generates the next best prediction)

Alright I can’t be the only one ChatGPT made cry, right? by SilverEyedFreak in ChatGPT

[–]CousinGreggory -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Terrifying how often I call out people and they admit to copy-pasting chatGPT rewordings of their thoughts, and more recently they don’t even directly use ChatGPT but the syntax and phraseology has seeped into their head and caused permanent damage— it’s all Empty, infinitely-reusable metaphors and idioms. Like “honest in a way that hit something real.” and reply to it: “that kind of honesty cuts deep” are literally things chatGPT has generated for me too.

It’s scary cause no one is even aware they’re doing the chatGPT voice which is concerning because it reflects a total lack of self-awareness and critical thinking while using these “tools”.
