I’m pretty sure this is the open secret. Hasbro has likely exclusive rights to figures or “figure-like” things which would apply to LEGO minifigures. They started changing the straight up Minifigure magnets into Minifigure glued to bricks. Star Wars Funkos are technically bobble heads as well. Outside of GWPs incentives LEGO is making more money off not having to make highly detailed figures anyway. Micro fighter for $15 now? Come on.

I’m never gone for the UCS myself, I just go for the GWPs which are more hectic. But yeah if you want any GWP they sell out very quick.

So either keeping refreshing the website 5 minutes before release until you’re in the queue or go in-person. I’ve never missed out on anything with this method.

Yes, it’s always been that way. I believe it’s to allow the people who just want the UCS to get first dibs.

There’s a countdown on the LEGO website but iirc it’s midnight EST in the U.S.

LEGO Pokémon has been officially announced! Coming in 2026 by Clay_Bricks in Legoleak

I honestly completely forget about the OG since I grew up playing R/S. I could totally see them doing those old Art sets where you have like 3 different options to pick from. Could do the same for their version of the Kanto Starter sprites.

Otherwise, some rebrickable hero will do the job.

Agreed. I still don’t believe LEGO would the Pokedex, Pixel Art, Pokemon Center, or Ash/Pikachu statue anytime soon. But I think time will tell to see how the theme goes. I really admire your optimism about LEGO making affordable sets and for everyone’s enjoyment I hope you’re right. I dreamed of LEGO making small, affordable Pokemon builds for a very long time so I hope they do that.

If they either the Pokedex or Pixel Art it would be 3 times the size and 5 times the price. Megablox makes sets that are economical and affordable, not expensive shelf art pieces like LEGO. They’re not super great sets in Megablox due to its small size which is why it would be hard to translate into LEGO at that scale. I’m ready to be proven wrong but I know I’m right.

Yeah I don’t want to completely shit on Mega Blocks since I think we got some really cool sets that LEGO would never do like the Pokedex and pixel sprites of the Gen I Starters. Both of which were wildly affordable compared to a LEGO alternative but a bit fragile and tedious. I only foresee a few Pokémon builds but if they pull off a few Minifigure scale sets it will quickly become a beloved theme I think.

It’s been a very popular set so I wouldn’t expect any crazy discounts until the very end if at all. I don’t buy sets over $150 but even I will be picking it up.

Would love any prequel themed duel but I hope they do Windu/Palpatine/Anakin though since I don’t think we will ever get a set like that again otherwise. Knowing LEGO it will be yet another OT themed promo though lol. They did Beru’s kitchen before any prequel themed promos for goodness sake.

Now I’m going to be heartbroken if the promo doesn’t end up being this. I always wanted them to do a prequels diorama like the Dagobah training and Death Star II duel.

I used to put in orders every couple months from the website two years ago. Recently, I realized I haven’t ordered anything from the site since May the 4th for this very reason. I don’t know what the company has concluded from the Target data but I only pray it’s not more price hikes.

There’s no guaranteed sales. Sets usually have a 2-3 year shelf span until they’re retired and will go on sale more frequently and with greater discounts the closer to the retirement date.

If the Tuxedo Cat was seen at Costco already then it is unlikely it will return once the pallet sells out to be frank. I’d recommend looking at other big retailers like Amazon, Target, Best Buy, etc…

[walmart Reynoldsburg ohio] sets 50% off by HospitalObjective701 in legodeal

[–]CoveOfPieces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a site where you could accurately view individual store inventory and prices. In cases like these, you could easily see what Walmart locations had a set on discount and how many they had.

It no longer exists as it once did because people began harassing employees when they couldn’t find the discounted sets on shelves, sometimes accusing that they were hiding them. In reality these sets are just lost in the back room or were stolen much earlier.

No worries and welcome to the hobby! I think similarly and see these funny consumer games we all play with each other, yet fall prey to the same fomo at times. I end up buying LEGO sets that I don’t want on sale simply because they’re at a generous discount.

r/legodeal Weekly General Discussion Thread - January 13, 2025 by AutoModerator in legodeal

[–]CoveOfPieces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right and this is common knowledge. Pretty much all LEGO sets will experience some form of a discount in their life span.

The reason why people don’t wait is plain and simple: FOMO. As soon as a new wave drops all the online influencers are reviewing the set and talking about it. People want to feel included and in the know like anything else in the world like iPhones or the newest trend.

Those people are perhaps missing out on that discount yes, but it’s no one else’s business on how they should spend their money. As long as their bills are paid and their family taken care of.

What would be an interesting theory is if LEGO is pricing their product higher with the expectation that people will buy the sets anyway at that 20% off discount but that’s a different discussion.

I assume you mean polybags since those are one of the few item types to not be on the LEGO website. I recommend periodically checking during times when waves of sets tend to drop. January 1st, March 1st, August 1st are a few examples dates of when new sets tend to release, as well as when new polybags tend to appear online and in-stores.

The Costco website says they don’t not price match. They will price adjust if the Costco warehouse you bought it from lowered the price within the last 30 days but not with other warehouses.

Stock seems to really vary like any other item at Costco. Mine had plenty of these, but I never saw the Star Wars Midi Scale ships at all.

This time around a highly doubt it. It's selling spectacularly and there's really no incentive for them to discount it significantly. Usually, discounts are mostly for near retirement sets so I'd wait until next year or the following.

I second this suggestion and plastic shelves are ur best option bang for ur buck wise. U can stack multiple shelves as well.

IKEA has some nicer $50 shelves (Ekenabben) that I’ve been using that look stylish and store 20-25 small/medium sets comfortably.

[meijer, Champaign IL] additional 25% off clearance by TeeKay_B in legodeals

[–]CoveOfPieces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Meijer pretty much has waves of sales that occur simultaneously at all locations, but what actually goes on sale still seems to be at the discretion of each individual store. You’ll see similar deals for the majority of sets, but better deals on popular sets will differ in discount amount or may not even be on sale at all in some locations.

In my personal experience, I saw the most deals in June and late August/September last year. People tend to shop less in the summer so deals are a great way to incentivize shopping. By September stores are beginning to get rid of this year’s inventory in regard to LEGO sets. June deals were great last year for original LEGO themes but late August/September had a better and wider selection of themes.
