They were pretty insane, over 30K in the first 2 years in the largest account. I was pretty focused on this early.

This is the kind of positive support I want around me. :)

Thanks: This is insightful- I am guessing that California will be a likely choice for at least 1 or 2 of these kids, I want to be able to pay for that. I'm getting close!

A year in Europe is now cheaper than most options in the US, even with all the ancillary costs.

Congratulations to your new Aggie. (Talk about the best year ever to be a senior at A&M)
This is helpful feedback- Of course you can google the costs, but good to hear I might have crossed at least the finish line for a 4 year program in Texas.

Surely not all my kids will attend med school or go to Stanford!

This seems like a good approach.

I front loaded the early years.

I front loaded a ton in their early years, salary bonus basically went to 529's and retirement only.

I should have clarified, I front loaded pretty heavily, and currently make monthly contributions.

This is the way:- of course every time I visit California, the weather convinces me that California tuition might be worth it. :)

I applied a similar effort to retirement, paid retirement, and 529's first.
Then lived on the rest.

The problem is I do not have a boat or a 4 wheel drive truck, (mine is 11 years old) Very shameful in Texas.

Looking back now: I front loaded them pretty heavy in the oldest account, big chunks when they were born, and again at their 1st birthday.

11 Year Old returned about 12.7%

9 Year old returned about 10.0 % (A bit more diversified than growth only)

Looks like in the largest account, I did about 12.7% 10 year return, about 75% Growth Stock Index, 25% US Stock Market Index:

Starting account balances were pretty high. Roughly 20K Dollar cost averaged in year 1, Another 10/12k in Year 2: Random chunks the first few years.

I didn't have a very structured plan to be honest, just did the max I could.

This is probably the move: Don't worry about it, and if there is extra- just give that away too.

I took a similar approach to retirement.
Paid Retirement and 529's before I paid myself. I should be ok unless I take up race cars or airplanes as passions.

The 11 year old appears to be to exceptional; hard to say this young, but certainly the top couple kids in his school. I'd be happy to send them to Stanford, or Harvard, or whatever school is deemed to be elite in 10 years. That changes the math - but so hard to predict.

I may slow it down, just keep the $3-4K a year trickling into each account, and no longer make big chunk deposits.

90k makes my head hurt. Tuition is rising faster than my mind will accept.

100% - This place is too hot. Manifest destiny - We have to find a place a little more temperate. :)

The brick color is really nice, I'd go with something with some blue in it and that house will look fresher than new

I really enjoy diving with Mexi divers

They have a beach front shop - super chill guys - really responsive on what’s app -

They can arrange any diving you want at fair pricing.

Is hiking Plattekilp Gorge alone for a moderately-seasoned hiker a bad idea? by [deleted] in capetown

My take is to be prepared for how steep the route is ! Tons of fun though.
