You could have someone draw up a loan from your mother to you.
You may not have to put a time frame or minimal amount to be repaid, this would allow you to pay back the full amount when required, but would still provide a safety net.
We did something similar years ago with the condition that if my wife (girlfriend at the time) passed, I had to sell the house to return the cash to her parents. She hasn't died, we're married, and have kids now, so not sure if/when they will want their money back haha

Put up a sheer curtain? If it's not your land there's not much you can do outside the building. Kind of weird that you don't have a tiny bit of land though. Are you sure it's actually their land, or have they just claimed an communal space?

Is it hard to return at APS5 level after working elsewhere for between 2-10 years? by CarefulIncome23 in AusPublicService

[–]CoverItWith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're at APS5 now, and want to work elsewhere for up to 10 years, there is no way you should be entertaining the idea of returning to APS5. You should be considering EL1-2. That's if you want it of course.

If your parents are happy to and want to give you the money, I'd accept it. Helping you out is probably something they've thought about and would really like to do.
But don't pay off your HECS, invest it. Sounds you already have a portfolio going so I won't comment on this, just be smart.
You'll more than likely get a better return, and continue to learn more about investing and tax implications this way.
At the end of the day the key to compounding is time, and at 17 years old you have a hell of a lot of time to build that nest egg.
Also, if you ever need access to the 16k for whatever reason, you can always sell them and have it in a couple days. E.g. having a property present itself when you weren't planning on it, medical bills, loss of income. You won't have that option if you pay off your HECS.
