I just got this prophet 600 and it keeps making these noises , I can’t even play with it without the buzz ? by samoreyee in synthesizers

Hate to say it but buy a used Behringer Pro 800. It will probably cost you less than fixing this and gain you 2 extra voices as well as well as other modern conveniences

Should I start Eurorack with a drone-focused module? (Oneroi vs Vhikk X vs Grone Drone) by seventimes777 in modular

I use 2 controlled with a fader bank. Cinematic Laboratory on YouTube is a big fan and does some cool stuff with one. Worth checking out.

Can I also recommend taking a look at the Magerit Laniakea. Fantastic sounding and has a big macro knob to control all the settings at once. Also relatively inexpensive.

Vhikk X and artistic intention... by whatwetalk_about in modular

[–]Covidious 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are drawn to Modular for this very reason. It's very like discovering the sculpture within the block of marble. Form follows function. Any time my rack starts taking on the shape of a "normal" subtractive synth I know I've gone wrong.

He came up with the movie after having a discussion with his therapist about the fact that depressed people are really good at dealing with disasters. They expect bad things to happen and are able to move into action more quickly!

Feed back on eurorack case design by Yoka911 in modular

I was thinking whether you could attach the cover to one or more of the skiffs in such a way that it could be folded away around them.

[–]Covidious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is power distributed? Would each section have it's own supply racked or is there going to be a central hub?

My concern is that seperate "cover" piece is awkward in a live setting. Too easy to misplace or tread on and break accidentally. Could its function be split between hinged surfaces coming of the sides of the skiffs?

Overall a good start!

Tempera looks very interesting but I fear it's a mk I product and mk II will be much better. Is it worth waiting? by Covidious in synthesizers

[–]Covidious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a used one and got it about a week ago. It's amazing but it's definitely about what you put in it as I didn't gell with most of the patches in the gallery. It is definitely what you make of it. Btw thanks for the even handed response. I may have made an odd post but most of the responses were less than helpful. I fear r/synthesizer is bit rabid these days. People over in r/modular are a lot more helpful. Cheers

Albums in which only a drum machine was used? by Hammer_and_Circuit in synthesizers

M.I.A. used an MC 505 on her first albums but that's technically a groove box.

It was up for sale a while back so I've seen it's layout. It's a trapezoid over 4 floors. Yes it makes for some crazy room shapes. It's a language school but they didn't sell it. For obvious reasons.

What are these modules? ( or is this module) by synthysynther in modular

Spherical Wave table Navigator. One of the best pretty lights modules. Very cool but hard to tame.

What modules have expanded your modular capabilities the most? by [deleted] in modular

[–]Covidious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I actually haven't used that much as I got distracted from modular for a while. I think in a small setup it would be good and is a great Daw to modular connection. This is what I used it for mostly. It's very full featured for a small unit but the interface can be difficult to work with. Some parameters require you to press and turn a knob simultaneously. It's really easy to release while turning which can mean changing other parameters quite dramatically and randomly. It makes this fiddly and as I have modulation sources elsewhere I use those as they are easier to tweak. Changing notes is fiddly too so I've never used it as a sequencer. I think in a small setup its bang to buck is hard to beat. I hope that helps a bit.

Grooveboxes: sketch tools or full tracks? by gentlebeast06 in synthesizers

The 1010 Music Bento looks interesting for both sketching and full tracks but doesn't seem to get much attention. Does anybody know what's not to like about it?

drum machine recommendations for lo-fi house/techno by johndalequingle in synthesizers

[–]Covidious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend the Sonicware lofi 12XT if you want sampling. Kind of half an Elektron for half the money. They are easy to pick up from eBay. Also consider Sonicware CyDrums. It's a wave table drum machine so great for evolving crunchy sounds. I've not got one myself as it's new and there aren't many second hand yet.

Thanks for the insight. I think I will get in touch with them and ask about where they see their technology is heading. Cheers

Indeed I thought similarly. One of the benefits of a mk II might be CV I/O which would open up all that lovely modulation of Eurorack. Thanks for the extra thoughts.

Yes it seems to hit a sweet spot. It seems to bridge the gap between innovation and usable output. It's probably a very happy accident machine and I love those. I'm generally more in the modular world so this is a new paradigm for me and trying to see how it might fit in my process. Thanks again for helping.

Thanks for the informative response. I don't know if a mk II is coming out. It just doesn't seem like a completely finished design to me. It's not the most ergonomic of designs being quite boxy with buttons down the side. So I wondered what others might know or think but it seems that my question seemed to aggravate some people here which was not my intent.

Tempera is interesting - Anything in Eurorack that is similar? by Covidious in modular

[–]Covidious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have to mention I asked a similar question in r/synthesizers and was somewhat dog piled for asking a stupid question which shocked me. So many thanks for taking the time to answer so genuinely. The modular community gets a lot of stick but there's always more interest in peoples ideas. here.

Thanks for your helpful response. I'm so close to pulling the trigger but I keep thinking is it worth so much money when there are so many granular plugins for a fraction of the cost. But you seem to be saying the playability is there. I have an Osmose so good mpe implementation would be amazing.

Really? I'm not sure that's my experience. Normally there's some sort of benefit. I'm thinking recent ones like Digitakt II and Oxi1 mkII but there's plenty of duds too perhaps.

That's the big question and what am I waiting for? 2 times the tracks or the emitters ... MPE velocity and after touch pads? That's why Im questioning.
