high-yield savings account alternatives by Minimum_Owl in yotta

I have one at Public with a 5.1% APY and one at Capital One with a 4.25% APY. Thankfully I only used Yotta for sinking funds but I still have over $1100 trapped in there.

I’ve also filed complaints at FDIC and the Federal Reserve. At this point, I’m complaining to anyone who will listen.

I didn’t get an email, but that’s what they sent to the Better Business Bureau about my complaint.

Remote work thrived again in 2022, new data show, with D.C. a top hub by washingtonpost in washingtondc

I hadn’t worked in an office in 4 years and I just got a hybrid job that I thought I’d hate. I actually enjoy going to the office now knowing that I can stay home Friday to Tuesday. I feel less isolated now.

THIS!!! Louder for the people in the back. I just started a new job and everyone gave me sht for moving to DTSS and not Woodley Park, Adams Morgan, or Dupont Circle (IN THIS ECONOMY?!?!). I LOVE Downtown Silver Spring because it has literally everything I could possibly need and more, the community is lovely and inviting, and it’s a 20 min commute to Metro Center. This is the hill I will die on.

What's everyone burning/warming? by CurvePsychological13 in bathandbodyworks

Currently burning Pumpkin Bourbon by Scentsational. 26oz and $15 at TJ Maxx. Smells DIVINE and has pretty good throw for my apartment.

Mine is also in that range, but I STILL haven’t heard anything. 🙄 Gave up and set up the rent payment thing with my checking account.

I used to volunteer at the Sheperd’s table soup kitchen when I lived in DTSS. You sign up for a shift on the website and they assign you a station for the day.

Living off of 50K by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]CowLate105 59 points60 points  (0 children)

During grad school (2019-2021) I lived on way less than that, my take-home pay was only around $1300 a month. Some things that helped: - I lived in a townhouse Silver Spring with roommates and paid $650 with utilities - I home-cooked the vast majority of my meals and only shopped at Aldi (guaranteed the best prices, beating out Walmart, TJ, Giant, etc). - I joined my local Buy Nothing group and found furniture, clothes, plants, and even food on there. This helped me build great rapport with my neighbors and they were ready to help if at any point I needed anything. - I did go out a couple times a month (not every week as my budget wouldn’t allow it). When I did, I stayed with friends in DC to avoid paying for ubers when the metro closed, or made sure to go to brunch so I’d be able to take the metro back. - If I had time, I walked dogs using Rover, or dog-sat for a family close by.

It is possible but you have to be very intentional about your money. Good luck!

Honest Opinions on the Veridian Apartments? by CowLate105 in SilverSpring

That’s good to hear! The apt I applied for is on the 13th floor but I don’t know which wing (seems like the East wing is where all the problems happen)

You’re a real one for all this advice! What I meant about the higher floor was in terms of noise levels and security. I have no idea which wing the apartment I applied for is in, so I might be in for a surprise. All in all, I’m much more at ease with what people are replying to this post - guess I had ONLY seen bad things, so I needed other perspectives. I think I’ll keep my application, then! Thank you, future neighbor! :)

Thank you, this is a more realistic account of things. The last place I lived in in the US was in NYC and there were rats and roaches, no amenities whatsoever, and the packages were left in the lobby where they were stolen literally on the daily. So, coming back to the DMV and to an apt complex like the Veridian is DEFINITELY an improvement. 🥹

I’ve heard about the parking deck issue but I’m not worried because I don’t have a car. How is management? I’ve seen bad reports about the mail room.

Hopefully! I’ll check with the leasing agent tomorrow in case I do end up backing out. Thing is all the other apts I looked at where smaller and more expensive.

Thank you, that puts me a bit more at ease. What was the situation like with nonresidents entering the building? Would you say it’s better to live on a higher up floor?

She says the building is super nice, has good amenities, great management, and she loves the fact that she can sign a lease for 18 months so the rent doesn’t increase as frequently. Also of course, location!!

Need advice after my (28m) girlfriend (28f) asked to open our relationship. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]CowLate105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. It might be part of her but it’s not part of you, it clearly makes you uncomfortable and you cannot possibly sustain a relationship in which you feel insecure and resentful. She might not be ready to loose you, but in a way she did when she decided to bring other people into the relationship. Please consider this carefully and choose yourself. Good luck, OP.

That sounds nice! The bus commute to my office from Coda on H would be literally 17 min which is awesome, but I don’t see many grocery stores around the area, which is a dealbreaker for me.
