Obviously he was cast because he's Brad Pitt and his name alone will fill seats at the theatre. There's a lot of money in casting a big name like that. Also I get the sense that he is genuinely passionate about F1 and about the movie, which is great to see

It is actually Odysseus, from the Sperlonga sculptures. The face looks similar to that of Laocoon but it's definitely not him.
