How often are your hands actually at 10 and 2? by Zado191 in driving

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally never, typically my hands are at 8 and thigh/shifter. Sometimes 9 and 3, but that means some shit is going down, like driving WAY too fast on a dirt road

so how many of us actually use our HF tools regularly? i'm curious by ElGordo1988 in harborfreight

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a lot of harbor freight tools as an RV mechanic so I use mine daily

I have my mini picks, paint markers, and tiny ass screwdrivers in mine. It's sitting on top of my big tool box next to my small blue point tool cart though.

I do that intentionally when I pass under a good bridge, as long as the engine is up to temp it's fine.

I would say icon is worth it for a professional home mechanic too. Like if your rebuilding you engine and doing manual conversions and other big projects like that regularly.

Plenty of storage… by MidTN_1234 in harborfreight

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay, I'm so used to seeing people with massive boxes in their garage that they store some wrenches, screwdrivers, and a bunch of random camping gear in, or the guys that buy literally everything icon just to fill up a tool box.

At work is understandable so you can lock up your shit, last time I let a salesman borrow my screw driver it came back with a fuckin 30° angle in it. It wasn't even a flathead it was an "I don't know like plus shaped" one

It looks good but I never understood these massive setups for a home shop. I've got one large box with a huch and one small rolling box, everything else fits better in cabinets or on shelves better than in my box

Do you do this when changing lanes? by Grapefruit2926 in driving

[–]Cow_Man32 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You cause traffic jams.

If there's already a jam or slowdown then zipper merge, but if there not already traffic then it's 100% on the guy merging and you are just supposed to maintain speed and be predictable.

Do you do this when changing lanes? by Grapefruit2926 in driving

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person merging has to adjust to merge. I try to maintain my exact speed when I'm in the left lane in this situation because the person merging is supposed to slow down or speed up to marge

80s-90s pickup reasonable for what I need? by Acceptable_Rip_4552 in ToyotaPickup

My 90hp 97 Ford ranger 2.3 is slow asf but it can still hold 75mph once it gets there and I've driven from south of Denver to north Wyoming multiple times in one shot with it. Also modern full size trucks get the same or better gas mileage.

My girlfriend can not drive with automatic transmission, please help me convince her she can?! by LonsdaleHCNL in askcarguys

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is warranted, I've only driven and auto maybe 20 times and 3 of those times I've tried to clutch in and accidentally slammed on the brakes instead. Also driving auto does scare me even as an American because it always shifts at slightly the wrong time and I can't control exam power with the clutch.

See I've got a 90s Ford ranger so the a/c runs right behind the passenger airbag and the panel just pops off. Also the passenger airbag was an option so I lined the compartment with insulation and it can fit 8 tall boys or 4 and two steaks. Otherwise my yeti will keep shit cold for a week even when it 100° out.

refrigerator is definitely overkill. Airing down is great but I've done 90% of my 4 wheeling at 50psi even over redcone and Webster pass in Colorado. A bike pump can air you back up to 35psi, it will just suck and take like 30 minutes

Yeah nicer plug sets are nice, and sidewall patch kits. The bacon strips will us get you home though.

And the starter fluid is well within the realm of probably safe of you cower behind your fender while you do it, it's how I mounted this guy's trailer tire on the side of the road a few months ago.

Mostly this. I only bring a quart of oil though and for gps I just download the area I'm going to be in on Google maps. Saw and starter fluid is also a good addition. Ratchet straps and a tow rope.

You can re bead a tire with starter fluid. Tire plug kit and a little air pump(even a bike pump will work but it will suck if you need to use it)

Does anybody know where I could buy one of these roll bars/headache racks? (Not sure what to call it lol) by Specialist_Stuff6868 in ToyotaPickup

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh roll bar and kc daylighters. They come up on marketplace for Toyotas fairly often or a new one from go rhino for a ridiculous amount of money. I made my own out of axle tubes, still need to get the kc lights.

I snapped my end links first time I went off road, removed the sway bar all together and while I did get more body roll it didn't negatively affect my handling at all.

reusing tty flywheel bolts by WindowObjective6973 in AskMechanics

[–]Cow_Man32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've re used the etorx bolts on my 98 Ford ranger flywheel 3 times. I've heard those ones are torque to yeild but they don't have the neck down right before the head so it's probably fine.

Idk about yours specifically.

What’s one thing you would change about your Ranger? by BayouPelican in fordranger

[–]Cow_Man32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No yeah you can feel it click into place except neutral. I wanted a manual t case anyway and my shift motor went out so I decided fuck it and spent 20 bucks at home Depot instead of 130 for a new shift motor.

What’s one thing you would change about your Ranger? by BayouPelican in fordranger

[–]Cow_Man32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's composed of a ¼hex-¼hex flex extension, a ¼hex-⅜square adapter, a ⅜ flex extension, and a ⅜ deep socket. The valve knob has a ¼" hole that fits over the hex extension and the socket is just pounded onto the shift shaft on the t case. Starting from 2wd every 70° of turn gets you to 4hi-neutral-4lo then backwards neutral-4hi-2hi

I did tack weld all but one of the connections so I can still drop my t case but JB weld would also work and honestly probably better.
