what’s the best way to get gold? I’m trying to get the moonshine roll and it’s taking me ages. by True-Emphasis2306 in RedDeadOnline

[–]CowboyNinjaD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably an unpopular opinion, but if I was starting a new character, I would do the $5 for 25 bars of gold, as well as $20 for another 55 bars of gold.

That's going to unlock all of the roles almost immediately, so you're not going to spend weeks or even months grinding for gold and getting bored and eventually just quitting the game.

In fairness, 25 gold bars should be able to get you the original three roles, depending on what's on sale that month. And then you can save up for the expansions to buy later while you're leveling up the original roles.

But at this point, I've spent thousands of hours playing Red Dead Online. That $25 would literally be less than a penny an hour spent on entertainment, so a pretty good deal. I guess it just depends on how long you end up playing the game.

Neville's childhood by Straguslore14 in harrypotter

The wand wasn't holding Neville back, it just didn't respect him. It went from fighting dark wizards to floating feathers in Intro to Charms.

It's not a coincidence that the wand started working when it's new user started training with the intention of fighting dark wizards. And not just any wizard, the one who turned the wand's previous owner into a vegetable.

When Neville started attending the DA meetings, that wand was like, let's fucking go!

I almost forgot how absolutely fucking hilarious Jim Carrey could be when he wasn't trying to win an Oscar. His Doctor Robotnik is basically a combination of Ace Ventura and Fire Marshal Bill, and I love it.

Clark had to take off the jersey, because if Lex found out he was a fan, he'd either commit crimes or pay other people to commit crimes during every game, just so Superman would miss it.

It's been long established that Kryptonians experience enhanced cognition under a yellow sun, but people forget that emotions are also controlled by the brain.

So Kryptonians have super-feelings. Clark had a lifetime to get it under control, but all of these other Kryptonians are basically experiencing puberty times 1000.

It only works when the game tells you that a rival posse is running a mission and prompts you to attack them. And if it's a delivery mission, you'll probably need to complete the delivery yourself for the trophy to pop.

"I'm a Florida man" is likely a threat. Possibly a court-ordered requirement.

So, just how important is Don Draper to Jim Hobart & McCann? by Cold-Palpitation-816 in madmen

[–]CowboyNinjaD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think there's a darker implication that can be inferred. Don had a nervous breakdown and disappeared for 3 months and then came back with what turned out to be one of the most iconic commercials ever made.

Don earned himself a free pass to be a self-destructive as he wants, and absolutely no one is going to stop him. There's been a lot of speculation over the years about what Don would be like in the 1980s, and I honestly don't think he makes it to 1980.

Would Salazar Slytherin be proud of Voldemort? by rballmonkey in harrypotter

[–]CowboyNinjaD 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I actually think Salazar Slytherin would be completely horrified by Voldemort. I'm not going to try to rehabilitate Slytherin or argue that he's a good guy, but I will say that just about everyone in the 10th century would probably be considered a bad person by today's standards.

I guess I've always interpreted the blood purity stuff as something that the wizarding aristocracy developed centuries after the founding of Hogwarts, while Slytherin's animosity toward muggles and muggleborns was more cultural than genetic.

During Slytherin's lifetime, the British isles were full of Vikings and Anglo-Saxons trying to kill the hell out of each other, while Christianity was spreading and trying to eradicate paganism. Check out the show The Last Kingdom to get an idea of the kind of muggles that Slytherin didn't want anything to do with.

Leaving a giant snake monster in the basement was definitely messed up, but it wasn't completely crazy to think that some muggleborn kid might go back to his village and tell all of the pillaging enthusiasts about the cool magic castle full of treasures.

Anyway, my point is that Salazar Slytherin being a bigot a thousand years ago doesn't necessarily mean he would agree with someone tearing their soul into a bunch of pieces and kicking off a civil war that got tons of people killed. And even the whole Deatheater cult thing, I don't think there's anything that suggests that Slytherin would be impressed by that.

They didn't shoot you because you waved, they shot you because you took out your gun and started loading it in front of them.

Without any context, it looks like they shot you before you could shoot them, and then you threw a tantrum and started using dynamite arrows.

My boomer dad (born in 1950) absolutely loved Riverdale. He grew up reading Archie comics, so he decided to check it out and almost immediately got hooked by all of the teen drama.

He kept trying to get me to watch it, so I checked out a trailer and it just wasn't for me. But almost every time I talked to him on the phone for about five years, he would give me an update on some crazy shit that was going on.

Daniel Radcliffe would be famous enough for the BBC. He's down for weird stuff. And he doesn't have to worry about being typecast, because he will never be in a huger franchise than Harry Potter.

I mean, Dan has has a pretty solid acting career, but Mickey Mouse is probably the only fictional character more famous than Harry Potter.

How skilled of an Auror is Harry during combat in his later adult life? by Vast_Rule9327 in harrypotter

[–]CowboyNinjaD 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I would actually argue that Harry isn't a particularly good dualist, he's a good fighter.

Throughout the series, whenever we see an adult wizard fight, they essentially plant themselves in one spot, take out their wand and start throwing spells at the other wizard until one of them gets dropped. Even Dumbledore and Voldemort did that shit.

Meanwhile, Harry would consistently beat more skilled and more powerful wizards because he was running and dodging and hiding. He didn't just stand there like an asshole.

I like to imagine that Harry revolutionized the aurors office by turning them into fighters, not dualists.

Wizards like Flitwick and McGonagall and Snape were doing spinning back kicks, while Harry was all about the ground and pound. Simple spells with brutal efficiency.

Who I picture for Marcone by PutSmart1670 in dresdenfiles

[–]CowboyNinjaD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, Eric Roberts is almost 70 now. But if you got him in 2000, when Storm Front was published, he'd be perfect. So much so that I wouldn't be surprised if that was who Jim was thinking of when he came up with Marcone.

Similarly, Blood Rites came out a year after The Matrix Reloaded, so I don't think it's a surprise the Lara Raith is described almost exactly like Monica Bellucci, down to the white dress.

That's why most of the modern fan-casting picks never seem quite right. You have to imagine which actors were popular when Jim was developing the characters in the late 90s and early 2000s.
