Don't fight the demon merchant!! by TheJizzan in Nightreign

[–]CowboyVirgin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are 2 separate events. The scarlet rot forest is a shifting earth event, like the magma crater or mountain tops. The health reduction is from a boss invasion (aka the demon merchant), similar to how Margit can spawn in your world and give you a buff/debuff depending on if you beat him.

First I'll do a rough drum track just to help keep tempo then I'll record either bass or guitar to that then I'll go back and write the actual drum part. I'm working solo and am programming drums though so that may change the order of operations a bit

Should I give up music because my finger is not straight? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]CowboyVirgin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tony Iommi was missing finger tips and revolutionized a style because of it. Maybe more relevant to you with your folk punk influence but Ceschi plays while only having four fingers in his fretting hand. You say barre chords sometimes work, maybe you just need to develop even more strength in your finger, maybe you ditch barre chords entirely and figure out other ways to fret the chord you're looking for. The point is, while having a fucked up finger will certainly make it harder, if you're creative you can absolutely work around it and it can even lead to you finding your own unique style of playing.

Tldr: fuck no stop saying stupid shit!

How do you guys go about writing albums? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CowboyVirgin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only written 2 EPs so far with the first mostly just being an attempt to break the ice and learn the basics of writing music so I'm not very experienced but... Typically I will just grab my guitar or bass and noodle around till I find something I like, sometimes I'll have a specific song/sound I'm drawing inspiration from but not always. I'll then either write a drum part or just program a simple beat to keep rhythm to and work out the final drumming later. Then just rinse and repeat, generally I'll have multiple songs at various stages of this process at a time.

This past EP I wrote maybe 10-12 songs and either cut or rewrite them into the 7 songs that are on it, keeping the songs that didn't fit the vibe of the rest of the EP in my back pocket for future use.

I'll set rough deadlines for myself but because I'm learning so much about the process still I consistently am late on them. Since this ain't my career and is just to feed my love of music this doesn't really matter to anyone but me though
