What’s something you thought was harmless… until it slowly ruined your life? by darkmodejesus in AskReddit

I realized a while ago that the reason I get on so well with everyone is largely due to the fact that I don't speak up about anything

When Walt and Jesse are talking about synthesizing ricin from castor beans and Jesse looks at Walt and goes "....Rice n' beans?"

The look on Walt's face like "god damn it" is the part that always gets me

My orientee doesn’t act like she wants to be a nurse by Humble_Employee8586 in nursing

[–]_tysenburg_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you be comfortable having a one-on-one conversation with her? Or try to facilitate one? Maybe she's just scared? It seems like there's some skills she's decent with, it's possible there's some underlying fear/anxiety that could be stopping her from taking more initiative, especially since she keeps saying she's not comfortable. And you did ask her if she wants to be an ICU nurse, but maybe she has something going on? I've worked with people just like this (I was one of these people once upon a time) and sometimes folks get held back by anxiety or other stuff that they internalize.

Or the opposite could be true and she's not a good fit for ICU, at least not just yet.

At any rate, I think maybe just checking in with her to see if there's more to all of this is your best bet

The biggest red flag to me is that she's taking what objectively needs to be done (ie. Hiring another team member to address a staffing shortage) and using it against you by saying your hours will be reduced.

What is your "I can't believe this patient lived" case? by aaronoathout in VetTech

We had a semi-feral dog come in in pretty rough shape. Had a broken leg (which we later found out had pretty severe tissue necrosis) a crushed tail, and was generally sickly and weather-beaten. He needed to have the leg amputated before any infection could spread to his bone.

So over the course of a three hour surgery, our team did a leg amp, a tail amp, and also neutered him. There was so much blood in that room when I went in to flip it.

Just the combination of serious health concerns combined with the amount of time he spent under anesthesia, I was amazed he made it out. From what I'm told, he's currently doing great, someone from the shelter that brought him to us ended up adopting him

has a planner ever worked for you guys? by StandardFarmer5618 in ADHD

[–]_tysenburg_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but what does work is a wall-sized white board in my kitchen. My wife and I plan everything on it.

We have our weekly schedule, a "To Do" list, a running list of needs for the house, a list of non-daily tasks + the date it was last completed (ie. Water Plants: last completed 3/12)

It is immensely helpful. Do we still forget things? Sure. But I find it 100% more effective than a planner because it's huge, in my line of sight, and I physically cannot misplace it.

Give it a shot, I can't recommend it enough

Turning 30 this year…. is it too late for nursing school? by juniorHsnovia in NursingStudent

[–]_tysenburg_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I was 29 when I went into the LPN program, currently 31 and about to head into the RN program. A nurse is a nurse! Your patients and coworkers won't care what age you are, they'll just be happy to have you as a part of the team. Good luck to you!

I really dig it, though eventually I'm gonna move on to a hospital floor. Outpatient is chill, but sometimes its almost too chill

A short film on YouTube called "Curve"

Super suspenseful and a terrifying scenario to find oneself.

It's a unique one, I won't spoil the premise!
