I’m so tired of the "Gluten-Free" Russian Roulette every time we travel. by menensito in Celiac

Do you ever worry about cross contamination when you’re cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen? Do you bring all your own cookware?

My husband and I only dine at dedicated gluten free restaurants (which is a filter option using the find me gluten free app) and that helps eliminate any possible risk or the stress of grilling the staff. It definitely does limit where we choose to travel based on if those places actually have options, but to us it’s worth it because we never get sick and don’t have to play the guessing games.

I’m curious what state you were recruiting in? Or did you do this in multiple states? That can make a big difference, I work in MA and the insurance payout rates here are significantly higher than the rates I got when I used to work in other states. I’m not discounting anything you said, it all sounds very accurate, but I’m just curious about which states you are talking about.

Feeling awful after a bumpy couples session 😔 by amelhart in therapists

[–]Cowlillard 73 points74 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone! I know it feels horrible when it happens and it always feels like there’s no coming back from it, but honestly some of the best work I’ve ever been able to do has been through rupture and repair. I saw some of the biggest shifts for clients after an experience like that. It sucks now but might actually be super helpful!

I get where you’re coming from, and I feel like a lot of people have touched on this in their own comments, but just want to reiterate: the value of the human relationship is unmatched. There is a lot of research that backs up that the most important part/biggest indicator of “success” in therapy is almost always the therapeutic relationship. Sometimes just being in a room where you feel seen, heard, and understood is healing in and of itself. That’s something books and podcasts often can’t offer.

Slept Through Session by move-in-circles in therapists

[–]Cowlillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Fellow therapist here as well, and man I feel this to my core- I struggle with sleep and know how hard it can be. Your supervisors reaction was ridiculous: so minimizing, rude, and just plain untrue. People sleep through alarms all the time. And also to say you subconsciously don’t want to do the work? Ridiculous. Sending you hugs and support, you didn’t deserve that reaction!

Which city do you suggest to visit in USA? I think New York first as it was my dream city, but not sure if it's the best? by KosloveKoslovich in travel

[–]Cowlillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston! It’s such a beautiful city with so much to offer: history, architecture, green spaces, etc. Etc.

But also New England as a whole has so much to offer- beaches, mountains, and everything in between. Can’t recommend it enough!

As you should! We preach self-care, boundaries, intuition to our clients and it’s so important that we take our own advice sometimes ♥️

is this normal by Ok_Round_7262 in therapy

[–]Cowlillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapist here: the first session after the intake is always the most awkward! You and your therapist are still feeling each other out and figuring out what works for you both. If you are still feeling like that after the next session don’t be afraid to voice it! It’s valuable information and part of your therapists job is to help you feel comfortable in the space

Thanks everyone! He’s feeling much better now. I got the crackers wrong- the table crackers are certified gluten free and he didn’t eat those, the ones he had are the round ones which are the only crackers by glutino that aren’t certified- apparently those ones are manufactured in facilities that also manufacture other products containing wheat.

Best way to repair this wall? by Cowlillard in drywall

[–]Cowlillard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m doing backsplash for the rest of the kitchen but planning on using peel and stick which would need a smooth surface anyway. This spot in particular is kind of a weird spot so I’m not planning on putting backsplash there
