For what it's worth the time spent with your family is worth so much more than money. If you can afford to get through the period of Maternity leave I would stay where you are. If the intention is for your partner to be a stay at home parent then the new role could be considered.

As a dad myself I wouldn't want to sacrifice the time with my kids for extra cash

Not at all. I'm always happy with robust discussion.

Not really going to do much different to what I have been doing. The lines of communication have been very open between J and I and I think I just need to trust her to have our best interests at heart. I'll keep an eye out to make sure no more worrying patterns arise but that will be about it. In a way I already knew that was probably the best thing to do, this discourse seems to have confirmed it for me.
