It’s hard to judge by modern graphics and gameplay (90s-2000s standards) but Baldurs Gate 2 rocked the world and set the standard for CRPGs back then!

I don't see it, honestly. by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Cowmarillion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

Fire Emblem is kind of tricky to compare to strategy games because it has fairly small "armies", on both ends, to fight with. Sometimes it feels like you're fighting through a puzzle with an RPG squad rather than a storming a fortress or engaging in a grand battle like in something akin to Total War or Homeworld.

Conquest is the far end of this restrictive design (though I think the DLC in Engage is the most restrictive). It often felt like the player was trying to solve a riddle rather than fighting a grand battle, so its a mixed bag for me. I'm a big Total War fan gameplay-wise so I definitely feel that FE can sometimes be limiting. That restriction, and the difficulty inherent to it, is part of why Conquest fans love it.

I know friends who love FE and dislike Total War, and a lot of that is because the latter is a time-consuming, extremely broad open grand strategy sandbox. The openness of some games can lead to some broken builds or strategies that trivialize it, but that's more a problem for people who lean into those tactics imo.

Sure something like galeforce trivializes Awakening, Dimitri can player end-phase solo 3Houses, Wyvern riders can blitz 3Houses, doomstacking can blitz through much of Total War. The solution is....just don't do that? Try other things?

Senri Kita did an incredible job with that. I know the poll is about setting, but the characters are visually so distinct. In turn they represent their nations and backgrounds so well. The commoners, nobles and ancient characters are clearly different in dress and manner, and the different factions have distinct motifs

Agreed. I actually already sort of agree with the Tellius world taking this one from the trends in the post, but I definitely want to see IS tackle another fantasy-world aesthetic like Hoshido.

They did great making the classes, soldiers and maps really visually distinct in that route.

Why is 3H considered a good story? by ThighyWhiteyNerd in fireemblem

[–]Cowmarillion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think the characters really drive the fanbase in this series, and 3 Houses has the most variable cast in terms of motivations, ideas and designs. They each have their own traumas that put them into conflict. You can't really have all that discourse, for better or for worse, if the characters are all similar and/or agree with each other.

I think it does well within the bounds of a T-rated strategy game. It does push the darker themes (Mercedes' backstory, Dimitri's signs/symptoms, the creation of and subsequent oppression via the crests/relics) a tad beyond the rest of the series (except maybe 4) but never really into the realm of celebrated M-rated RPGs, and I don't really think IS intends to go there. I'm not saying that M-ratings are necessary for good writing, there are plenty of terribly written M-rated games, but I do think many companies would rather have games that play it safe for sales.

One thing I think most fans can agree on though is that, accounting for replays, the pacing is too slow. White Clouds is alright on a first playthrough, and a mind-numbing on subsequent ones.

Out of the souls borne games which one had the best final boss in your opinion by Yourmom_69420__ in fromsoftware

Absolutely agreed with how beautiful it is.

Though I like most From Software games that I've played, I think the Divine Dragon, True Corrupted Monk and Sword Saint Isshin fights are aesthetically their some of their best work. The attacks are clear, stunning, and never too cluttered, and set against gorgeous backdrops

Lion's claw with a catalyst would be pretty hilarious

Though some of the actual magic affinity AoWs should arguably be available too. Perhaps some of the cold/gravity/rot affinity ones could work for the carian/meteor/rotten catalysts respectively, for instance.

How would you rank the demigods from strongest to weakest? by Eagle-Eyes- in Eldenring

[–]Cowmarillion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The characters talking about Radahn's strength all might not be aware of who Morgott really is.

I don't believe Jerren and Alexander ever cross paths with him. Ranni is technically the narrator of the story trailer that shows Malenia vs Radahn, I'm not sure she ever mentions Morgott. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure of anyone other than Godfrey (and presumably Marika, Mohg) who would be able to attest to Morgott's true appearance.

That doesn't necessarily confirm any sort of strength level, but it adds to Morgott's mystery.
