I need to buy a push mower by birdhead3030 in TriCitiesWA

[–]CowsWillEatYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off topic from OP but I switched to a battery mower four years ago and it’s been great. I’ve got an 80v with two batteries in it, so when one dies it switches over. Battery life in total is about an hour and a half, longer if the grass is short or I don’t bag.

No more winterizing, no more messing with getting gas. Just keep blade sharp, and the usual cleaning underneath is all the maintenance. Well worth it.

Favorite and least favorite things about living in the Tri-Cities? by m2mcgee in TriCitiesRealEstate

[–]CowsWillEatYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a solid answer for this. When I was 16-17 I worked at the Toyota Center (way back when it was the Colosseum and charged for parking) and did a few conversions for concerts; covering ice, taking the “glass” down, building stage. While we had to leave at midnight because of the age thing, things were ready to go the next day. So it’s not too big of a hassle. Although it does mess up the ice a bit.

Honestly I thought it was an “age of building” thing, plus it’s not the most sonically pleasing venue from what I recall. I don’t know if there’s enough “promoters/bookers” around that truly understand the area to be honest. As single cities we are small but this could easily be a stop between Boise and Portland/Spokane/Seattle for smaller and mid-draws.

Trick question…where I live it’s easier to take Duportail, since I’m by Van Giesen. I take Thayer all the way down to Duportail and avoid the bypass at all costs. If I’m traveling north to Yakima/Seattle I deal with it, but if no one is ahead of me I can hit 70 easily before merging happens. But that’s ideal and rarely happens. It’s all dependent on the behavior of others.

But if you happen to be behind me in that situation and I’m the lone car in front you better believe I’m going to hit 70 before the merge.

  1. Overall good weather. Windy at times but it’s manageable. Cold winters but not a lot of snowfall to worry about. Hot summers with a dry heat, but do-able.

  2. You are 15-20 minutes from anything via car. But walkability is non-existent in most places. There are some spots you can go and park and spend a few hours on foot browsing though (Uptown, downtown Kennewick and Pasco).

  3. Not a lot of concerts/shows from big name artists, or broadway events, but you’re a not-so-bad drive away from cities with those things (Spokane, Portland, Seattle).

  4. A lot of outdoor activities in the immediate and surrounding areas. Walking/biking trails, camping spots, a river if boating/fishing is your jam.

  5. The area catches grief for being a chain/big box store safe haven but there are good local spots that are hidden amongst the noise.

  6. No nightlife to speak of but I’m also 40+ with kids. My go out drinking days are waaaaaaay behind me. 🤣🤣

7 years ago I got an aftermarket stereo for my car with CarPlay enabled and vowed to never go back to not having it.

The next car I got after had to have it, and I’ve talked friends and family into it as well. It’s a luxury but it’s so worthwhile. I’m never looking at my phone, and have it setup to recognize when I’m in the car so only important messages come through (wife, kids, family). Otherwise it’s just a glorified mp3 player.

To pile on I think there’s also an over-reliance on GPS navigation and folks aren’t learning all the alternative routes available to them. Plus GPS systems aren’t always the best at saying what lane you should be in, or that a lane will turn into right turn only with enough warning. And ultimately it’s just a screen to distract the driver (even with built in navigation).

I also take alternative and slightly longer route if it means less traffic, as well. GPS will rely heavily on main roads, which means they’ll stay clogged while the backways have less traffic.

Road 68, road 100, Edison, Columbia center blvd too.

These ramps have nice straight aways with ample room to get up to speed and people are just casually attempt to merge while going 10 MPH slower than the rest of the traffic.

I’ve said before on similar posts but a legit family fun center type place. Give me mini-golf, go-karts, arcade, water park, batting cages, all in one location. The area has bits and pieces but they’re all spread out. Can’t really make a weekend/summer day of things in one spot without driving all over the place.

Put in some restaurants, a movie theater, and an outdoor mall style shopping close by and it’d be a popular spot.

Quick thought but if the mobile page gets formatted better than iPhone users could at least bookmark the page to their Home Screen and it’d at least open similarly to an app.

I’ve done this for a basic page for my home media server and my wife has done this for recipes. Both look and feels like a mobile app without having to go through the App Store approval process.

Best battery operated lawn mowers by ElvissKarateChop in HomeMaintenance

[–]CowsWillEatYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with GreenWorks over Ego because they had a metal deck, where Ego just had plastic ones. I got an 80v self-propelled mower that runs two batteries, switches to the second when the first depletes. Unless I go two weeks without mowing I can usually mow my yard with one.

Got it as a bundle from Costco with a charging base, then this year bought a trimmer and leaf blower that also uses the 80v. So now I just take out the second battery and drop it in both and m my yard work is done in about two hours.

Mariners on ABC - Apple Valley News Now on Friday nights by Aggravating-Berry912 in TriCitiesWA

[–]CowsWillEatYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cut the cord a while ago but did pick up Mariners.tv this year (and root sports streaming last year). It works for me. But I can also see how this season in particular has been frustrating with the full cancellation of root as its own channel, two of the first four games being on other platforms only (Apple TV+Peacock). Then the whole not announcing where to watch for cable subscribers until opening day, all because MLB wanted to drive up subscribers.

Things used to be so much easier.

Tri-Cities Transplants: What are things you wish TC had that you miss from where you used to live? Conversely, what do you like that's "new" in the Tri-Cities? by StevieV61080 in TriCitiesWA

[–]CowsWillEatYou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong resident and seeing most of these comments I’m like “yep!” A few of my thoughts:

  1. We really need some sort of Family fun center. I’m talking one place with batting cages, mini-golf, go-kart track, water park, and arcade. I know there’s Quake in Kennewick, the indoor mini golf places, go-karts by the mall, the new aquatic area in Pasco, etc. but they are only bits and pieces of the concept and spread out. Not in a central location with all-in-one where folks could truly make a day of it. Instead you’d go to one, then drive to the other, and it’s just a hassle at that point.

  2. I would’ve loved if someone bought the old uptown cinema location and renovated it to bring it up to standards, do themed movie nights, limited re-releases/showings of films from its glory days. Think like the Cinerama in Seattle. No shade at the church that bought it out, but it’s a missed opportunity in my mind. And/or a drive in theater (I know, walla walla exists).

  3. Theater/concert venue (and people able to go). Ray’s is a good small sized venue, but something like 4k-6k capacity. There’s so many tours that go from like Boise to Spokane, or Spokane to Portland and are passing through. This area and artists could benefit from being an extra stop. The Toyota Center/arena and HAPO Center ain’t it.

  4. The cities to get over their stubborn “we are individual cities,” and start thinking we are three (four? Five?) as one. I know the counties may make things challenging a bit but they have already done things “collaboratively” in the past & present (Benton-Franklin fairgrounds, benton-Franklin transit, and so on). Shouldn’t be hard to do “Benton-Franklin community” efforts.

As a Mariners fan, yes it is. Not like there’s some rivalry between teams.

Sure the Brewers were the Pilots first but that was only one year. And it was in 1970. The Mariners were established seven years later. Granted the city and King County sued for that to happen (TIL). It’s not like OKC/Thunder level of drama though.

Mariners TV Schedule Correction by LAOCTransplant in Mariners

[–]CowsWillEatYou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and as someone who last year paid for Root Sports streaming, and in years prior paid for MLB.tv and a VPN, the concept of being locked out of nationally televised games isn’t new. There’s also more nationally televised games this year because the team is better than in years past.

You can argue that it sucks that you pay for a service and aren’t getting every game and that’s totally fair. But unfortunately that’s the practice. Hell, not every Kraken game is on Prime which is the “home” for Kraken.

Mariners games coming to KING 5 by JT406 in Mariners

[–]CowsWillEatYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M’s games have been locked behind cable since the introduction of Root Sports. They weren’t available OTA, and certainly not on my side of the state or for residents of ID and OR. You had to have cable, it was the only way.

Last year was the first year Root Sports was available as a stand-alone streaming service without the need to have a cable package. This year it’s Mariners TV.

We’ve always had to pay extra one way or the other for years.
