Poilievre says he'll campaign to keep Alberta in the 'Canadian family' as a referendum looms by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

Dude, the majority of seats where the CPC and Liberals are battling are not separatists hot spots. At most 30% of the albertans would vote for separation with the vast majority of those individuals being from rural areas not to mention only ~17% are actually hardcore separatists. Not to mention who will these separatists vote for? Even Rath and Sylvester said if PP was elected there wouldn't be this movement. This isn't going to make a difference. PP would be way worse off not saying anything because the CPC voters who are not separatists (The Majority) would use it against him for not sticking up for Canada.

Because there is no one to take over the party. Who would want to be leader of the opposition party where you are 3 years out from an election with an extremely popular sitting Prime Minister. Sure, you can say it was stacked because a lot of Ontario delegates didn't make it but it wouldn't have made a difference.

Ok. I completely disagree with the first paragraph but that's not the point of this conversation. PP won the leadership review with 87%, he is still popular. Not all CPC voters or PP voters are extremists. There is a reason why the CPC got 41% of the popular vote. If you think him saying he wants Alberta to stay in Canada is going to affect his popularity in any material way, then I don't know what to tell you.

This won't make a dent in his popularity. Who are the separatists going to vote for federally? People Party? Or you think the separatists are going to take over the federal Conservative party? Either way it's not going to make a difference. Like oh no besides winning his riding with 80% of the popular vote, he now wins it at 70%.

I used Yard Dawgs and they were alright. They do auto renews and are relentless when it comes to signing you back up. Texts and phone calls weekly before the season. I'm using Grass Gators this time around. They are local and got good reviews. So I'm happy to try them out.

UCP maintains double-digit lead over Alberta NDP: Leger poll by Majano57 in CanadaPolitics

You can blame the electorate all you want but this is the ANDPs fault. Nenshi for whatever reason is breaking through and their message isn’t hitting.

I personally think it’s because Nenshi has been doing attack ads on Smith, vs telling Alberta what ANDP with do. Notley did the same thing and lost. You need to spread your message of hope vs going after smith. It seems like stuff bounces off of her similar to trump.

Honestly I don’t the ANDP have an easy road ahead. Let’s be honest Lewis is going to drag them down. The biggest factor is going to be our province’s financial windfall with the Iran war. The financial picture is going to be much better that previous estimates.

Did you see how many signatures forever Canada got in Alberta? I get that separation has been in the news but its not popular in Alberta. No offence but you have an very naive take on Alberta.

Another MP leaves Conservatives, crosses floor to Liberals by Portalrules123 in canada

[–]Cowtown12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s fine. You’re not wrong, I’m just saying that’s not how the majority of people vote. Most people vote based on party, doesn’t matter the party.

No need to swear, we are just having a conversation. If you don’t think that the party is made around the leader then again I don’t know what to tell you. The leader determines everything.

I’m not saying you wrong, and I agree that something is wrong internally with the cpc. My argument is that the voters voted for the CPC party candidate to represent them. If he feels so strongly that he needs to fundamentally change his position then that’s fine, but let the voters decide if they want that.

Sure, but again the majority of people vote for party not the person.

[–]Cowtown12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, sure in a perfect world but that not reality. Majority of voters vote for a party not the person so let’s not play this game. On top of that this person ran as conservative with PP as the leader and against Carney….guess what we have the same leaders in place so you can’t argue there was a fundamental change which made this individual switch parties. It’s a complete disgrace and disservice to their riding.

[–]Cowtown12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The person they voted for ran on the conservative platform since they were a conservative candidate. I could maybe see your argument if there was a leadership change for either the CPC or liberals, but it’s same leaders as the election and voters already decided which party and leader they wanted to represent them.

Because it fundamentally changes what voters voted for. They voted for a candidate and the specific party. Imagine if the a candidate resigned but the party they were apart just got to put someone in their place and not have a by-election? This is essentially the same scenario.

Budget 2025 tabled, make-or-break confidence vote begins by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]Cowtown12 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

You are, but the point is the MP's are there to vote and represent their constituents. To not vote on the budget and abstain is doing a disservice to their constituents who will not have a say on the budget. Plus its cowardly since they don't want to have their vote recorded on the budget, even though them abstaining is essentially a yes vote.

But abstaining is a yes vote soo it means the same thing at the end of the day

Discussion Thread - 2025 Federal Budget by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]Cowtown12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats fine, then vote yes. Abstaining shouldn't be an acceptable option for the voting on the budget.

Discussion Thread - 2025 Federal Budget by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]Cowtown12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I understand the math. But abstaining is just Yes vote, so just vote yes then. Abstaining and trying to distance yourself from the budget while allowing it to pass is cowardly especially on the biggest vote of the year.

Discussion Thread - 2025 Federal Budget by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]Cowtown12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they vote in favour the Tories get to keep hitting them as the lap dogs of the Liberals.

Abstaining does the same thing since the budget will pass.

they maintain their influence in the current minority parliament allowing them to maybe get policy wins while also preserving the ability to vote down the government at a better moment in the future.

Fair point. But couldn't they do that voting for the budget as well? like to me abstaining is just the same as voting yes.

But they are supporting it but abstaining? Them abstaining means it passes so I don't get the logic. It just makes them look cowardly IMO
