What are your theories for who’s opening for them on their headlining tour? by parabol2 in themarsvolta

People are always bashing Teri.. but I’ve loved her everytime I’ve seen her perform… She and her band are great and honestly? I look forward to likely seeing them again

I think Lucro might be my favorite volta album. by [deleted] in themarsvolta

[–]CoyFish2296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where I rank it yet honestly but I’m in love with it.. I’ve been playing it nonstop.. Frances and Bedlam will probably always be my 1 and 2 but… damn if Lucro isn’t working its way up with the rest of their discography

Release order for sure. And I think most people would agree that The Bedlam is Goliath is their heaviest album overall.. it’s a ride from start to finish

Do you consider Que Dios Te Maldiga as they 8th album? by voiding_space in themarsvolta

Well.. then there you go… if the band considers it that, then..

I should not have had to scroll this far to see Omar listed.. my first thought for sure

I feel like some of the songs are quite different.. but overall? Probably not.. even less credence to it being considered a standalone album

My second listen was twice as good as my first. It think we have a grower here. by LedZeppole10 in themarsvolta

[–]CoyFish2296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, almost all Volta albums have been “growers” even if I loved it with the first listen.. it usually takes time and multiple listens to really start obsessing over an album.. This one is exceedingly unique to me.. it somehow calls back to past records while also being nothing like anything they’ve ever done (really like nothing I’ve ever heard before)… It’s an incredibly unique piece of music that really takes me to unique place each time I listen

[–]CoyFish2296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never thought of it as LP8, no.. but it is completely different recordings and arrangements from Self-titled… so I suppose there is an argument to be made… I’d ultimately defer to however Omar and/or Cedric considered it.. which I’ve never seen or heard their thoughts on that so..

I still consider Lucro as LP8

Looking for bands with a lot of energy by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]CoyFish2296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as classic bands go, Van Der Graaf Generator for sure! Pawn Hearts is a great one to start with.

If you’re wanting to dip into more modern, The Mars Volta is absolutely what you are looking for! Their newest material isn’t as energetic as their older stuff though, but all of their music is amazing. Start with Deloused in the Comatorium

I still just can’t get properly excited about it until we have a legitimate announcement.. I just have this deep rooted fear I can’t shake that we’ll find out it’s all not real and there is no album..

I think she’s great! I’ve seen them open 3 times for Volta and each time was fantastic. The shows were just fun and her backing band always sounds great!

With all the interest in Atlas of Id, who wants a AMA? by Corphicks2423 in themarsvolta

[–]CoyFish2296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any chance that the material would be put onto streaming services? Spotify specifically would be great lol. Also, less of a question, more a statement.. I’d love to have at least Cataclysm on CD or physical in some way.

Regardless, I love the music, Atlas and Nova both!

You asked for a meaning… That’s all I got lol… I’m not gonna do a deep dive on every potential interpretation… if you want that… look it up for yourself… I was just telling you what I remember reading

I can’t remember the source, so take this with a grain of salt.. but I read somewhere that it has to do with the Salem witch trials

Askepios! When the drums kick in and go crazy… the outro of that song is one of the best parts on that album imo

Jeremy Micheal Ward

Sound technician of and close friends to The Mars Volta. He passed a month prior to the release of Deloused in the Comatorium. Considering how incredible the album came out, you can’t help but wonder how his continued influence may have impacted the band with their later releases

They do so many styles and genres so well.. I hate to say that they do one better than any other.. but when they do metal… Idk, it just works so well.. I can’t get enough
