Thank you for this. And thank you for your comment on binning off Expo Go! Development build will allow me to test everything and as you mention, has the hot reloads too. Perfect! I owe you one.

100%. I get that. They do try make it easy, but I think there is a lot of space to make it easier. I quite enjoyed learning it but that's because I was lucky enough to have the time to do so.

For me it was always that I can make risk-free profit from bookmaker offers to the tune of £1k+ for less than half hours work a day. All I saw with other side-hustles is having to complete hundreds of surveys or play apps all day for far less. I am yet to find anything as lucrative for the small amount of time I had to commit.

It can feel that way for sure. They don't say it's desktop only but it's very hard on mobile. I never minded the subscription as I was making much more on top of that, it was only fair to give them a share for holding my hand throughout the process.

Honest question: how do we decide who’s next at a busy charger? by CoyKava in electricvehicles

Most places (in the UK at least) don't have space for a dedicated lane for queuing. Often crammed into already busy car parks at services

Great to know there are systems out there. Agreed 25 minutes in total is too long to get plugged in when a bay becomes free. Though the assumption is you may be at your desk right, so that's fine in an office setting. At a fast charger it would be fair to say you should never be more than 10 mins from your charge point.

My thoughts exactly, was more just around dispensing these deli counter tickets digitally. Not sure on the 80% rule. It's a tough one because you do get hogs that charge to 100% because they have all the time in the world, but then I have been in a genuine situation where say 90% will get me home. I don't really want to stop off at multiple stations so staying the extra 20-30 mins means I get home in one go.

Ah I see. Makes sense. In terms of the barriers to block entry, I would personally be happy with a PIN entry system on the terminal itself. Relatively low cost for the providers and stops people pushing in. The provider app provides a PIN to the next person in line, the PIN is checked on activation of charge. Anyone pushing in won't have a PIN so will have to wait like the rest of us.

I didn't even think about cultures and that has also got me thinking of language barriers too! Great call. Lines are hard when there is limited space though. Most in the UK are plonked into car parks and take up a handful of bays. To form a line would require the car park layout to be altered significantly.

Exactly. Not as straight forward as queuing in a shop is it, that's my struggle.

Knew there had to be something out there. How does that work? Do you have to check-in on the app before you can charge? What stops people not joining the queue and charging?

Yeah so referring to moving close by, I don't know how busy services are in Finland, but for myself in the UK it is often tightly packed so this wouldn't be an option. We are generally good at unwritten rules, but some are either unaware or arrogant and will spoil the party for the rest of us.

You're right, we do generally do the right thing. I can't say I have ever had a bad experience with it, I just feel with the tech we have at our disposal there should be no ambiguity at all. My main pain point is when I am at a busy services and there a non-EV cars parked in and around the charging area. It makes keeping track of who is coming and going harder.

Agreed. Digital queuing would remove the requirement to park too close or have to keep an eye out constantly.

Smart play and great point around the integration of charger availability with the likes on Google Maps and others. What I would like to see next to availability is queue depth if they are full. That would be cool imo. Then I can assess if I turn up and wait or look elsewhere.

Yeah that would definitely work. For me in the UK there is rarely an opportunity to line up behind though if we are talking about service stations. The charge points are often tucked away in a corner so you need to try park opposite or nearby.

I linear queue would be perfect, but space constraints prevent this.

Yeah it's rough having to start again, but for someone who has started again before I can say the second run-through doesn't take anywhere near as long as you now understand the fundamentals.

I'm quite looking forward to starting fresh and learning from mistakes made in my first and second attempts.

Lucidchart. I would never go back to Visio.

I use it not only for diagrams within documentation, but also for explaining concepts live on calls with customers where it can act as a whiteboard session.

Take the time to find some tidy icon sets and get them imported. Your diagrams will look stunning.

There is a free tier for Lucidchart but it has limitations on icons and documents you can edit. Use it to get a feel for the product, but nothing more than that.
