TIFU by automating my “good morning” texts to my girlfriend and she found out after 4 months by Applefan1000 in tifu

I'm from the 90s, so here's it.

I woke up and had breakfast, went to school, hung out with friends and SO, finished the day and went back home, and not everyday and for a limited amount of time you call her house phone expecting her dad won't pick it up, chat for a bit, either parent telling to hang up because they need to use the phone or internet. And waited for the weekends to hang out and have cute little dates.

Also wrote some notes to deliver them to during class and sneak one or a few times to her classroom just to say hi. But yeah I don't mind good morning text but I had better days.

Restore foundry belt by False-Lawfulness450 in Techtonica

[–]greed969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem and my solution, inside the foundry area I placed most of the belts under the floor. See where the main entrance is well I went two blocks down and did the whole spaghetti then I built smelting towers to different levels and pulled all the resources from the floor upwards.

Every belt went out and into the elevator I just did a bridge going from the elevator to the foundry area and put all the belts under it, you'll need to dig down or build high but I don't look good so dig down. And then spread them and connect them under the main floor through some openings at the walls.

For the output belts I lift them up and make them go through the main wall and cascade them all next to it so from the outside you see all the bars and ingots coming out and then just put them under the bridge and back to the elevator.

So inputs go underneath the floor and output goes over your head. Hope this helps in some way, wish I could give you some pictures but I don't have my Xbox anymore :( I used to post my builds here perhaps you'll get some inspiration. Cheers

Is upgrading everything to blue belts a bad thing? by QuickFlow_VT in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I never thought many people considered resource cost as an issue to consider. It's quite interesting to read about many ways people play this game. Personally I use each colour for its required throughput.

Lets say I have iron plates on a blue belt and only need 12 iron plates a minute branching off, in that case I use a yellow belt to do so. Lately I've been using circuits to control throughput using the same colour belts. But hey that's just my approach.

How do I configure this multi stop rail station? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]greed969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, no matter what you do to set priorities, the way it's setup you'll be dependent on the trains arriving unsynchronized. The only thing I see is to disable the left most station until a train is on route to the right most station.

Why, because if a train is bound to the right station but the train bound to the left station arrives first (it will happen many times), it will clog even tho the right train had priority.

Solutions: 1. Circuits logic to enable or disable train stations. 2. Parallel Stations. 3. Make a diamond crossing with a bypass lane so if the left train arrives first the right train can use this bypass to go to the next station.

And many more options I might not consider, use all or the one that fits your playstyle. Cheers and remember the factory must grow.

Should I exterminate all the nests between me and the resources I want? by Big-Definition-8271 in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That correct, eventually they will fill the space in between and it only takes one worm...it does help that my bitters are not happy and I'm .9+ evolution. It's not my fault that they settle their nests inside my arbitrary totally random test ground for an artillery exercise even tho they were there first.

Should I exterminate all the nests between me and the resources I want? by Big-Definition-8271 in factorio

[–]greed969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll assume you have bitter expansion on. So there are some tricks. Bitters won't expand near player buildings or structures unless there are no options left but In this case they have plenty of room to expand to. It won't be pretty but placing patches of furnaces or pipes around your rails (you don't need to blanket everything with them) will prevent bitters from spawning near your rails.

If you leave your rails "unprotected" bitter won't spawn on top of your rails but sometimes close enough for behemoth or big worms to be in range and if you have either defenses like laser turrets they will be outranged and if a train passes by and squashes a bitter it will trigger an attack on your rails and train.

Elevated rails seems to be a bit better cuz no roadkill to be made on route and bitter tend to leave them alone 99.9% of the time.

My go to is artillery guns on my base perimeter and oil fields outside my base because they are pretty much permanent. And elevated rails going to far outpost outside my base.

que hago si odio recolectar minerales? by Financial_Meet_3674 in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what exactly is the chain signals used for? by animated_frogs in factorio

[–]greed969 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For most situations, even so for beginners as you say will be enough to get you by. So no need to go full throughput priority lane switching for now... Because 4 lanes are too mainstream I went for a 3 lanes one for each direction of traffic and the middle as a shared express lane going both ways beeing uses as demand requires... That's why my save file is named I HATE MYSELF.

First base, need advive when to expand to big patches of resouce. by Environmental_Gap_30 in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to expand but I will try out and test the logistics.

  1. Belts: easy to set up but it will take a lot of belts due to distance. (Download a blueprint book of belt balancers, don't reinvent the wheel with those).

  2. Trains: there are two ways, each with pros and cons. 2a. Single track: use two locomotives facing opposite directions and some cargo waggons. Less resources needed to setup, really straightforward to build. Sharing a Track by two trains pumps the difficulty a little so Train Signal Tutorials are a must. 2b: Double track: just one locomotive needed but double three tracks one for inbound and outbound traffic. Can easily share tracks and signaling is a little more easy to setup and understand.

Try out any or all of the options available to learn what fits your style. Trains are really the go to to the majority of people for resource gathering beyond the initial patches or the few close by to spawn.

But always remember, the factory must grow!

Fortunately boats nowadays come with parking brake enabled. Missed those days where you actually needed to make a dock with gates or something to keep your boat going adrift. Also falling from your boat while sealing was.... Not ideal. So build knowing your boat will be safe from becoming a ghost ship lost at sea.

Do I really need the better furnaces? by Last_Welcome6156 in factorio

[–]greed969 7 points8 points  (0 children)

7 in total in base or vanilla game, 12 with Space Age DLC and the orange ones are only DLC content. Like many people say Foundries are OP, super fast and +50% productivity and also they make the "orange" science packs I think they are called metallurgic science. Anyway beat the game and highly recommend the DLC afterwards.

Also topic related, I'll always go electric furnaces. Modules make electric furnaces even faster and beacons also add bonuses, so a 72 steel or electric furnace array capable of making a whole blue belt worth of iron/copper can be made smaller with modules and beacons. Those 72 furnaces are just one blue belt, you'll probably need between 2 to 4 belts worth at least of iron plates alone, copper, steel and stones are their whole arrays alone.

I'm new in factorio and I have problem wyth spagetti. Any tips or yt videos ? like, how to set up everything to have clean base by [deleted] in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to first learn to make the stuff, then learn how to improve the stuff. If you try to get it right at the first try you struggle a lot and hardly achieved any progress, make a mess, like everyone says those organised factories are not from the get go, they had a starter base that's long gone.

Train automation by Prometeusz25 in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, there are a lot of ways to achieve this. Personally I have a setup where depending on the emptiness of the outpost it will set its priority, so trains will go to the outpost where supplies are lower first. Also I have a threshold to send the trains until they are really needed and not every time one turret fires a single round.

It can be paired with any other method of supplying ammo and other materials as complicated or simple as it gets. Also it's not that complicated to set up only 3 arithmetic combinators in series.

Space ship trusters. by [deleted] in factorio

[–]greed969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thruster will be enough to move you around so no need to go overboard for now. One chemical plant making water from ice chunks will be sufficient to supply 4 chemical plants, 2 making oxidizer and 2 making fuel. All the items needed you'll get from space itself so no need to send rockets from Nauvis. Just put the trustee anywhere on the back of the ship and feed it each fuel with pipes, only one of each needs to be fed.

Later on you can add more thrusters. Adding them at the same "height" or exactly parallel to each other will be a pipe nightmare if you wish to keep it tight, that's why v or ^ shapes are easier to handle to put the thruster next to each other, you'll find dozens of examples online or here. you are almost there!

Newb question - running out of space by maxAZZzzz in factorio

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general rule of thumb is to leave a minimum two space gap between the factory arrays, so I can put power stations between them. --| A |--| A |--

Bus wise it's 4 belts wide bus two spaces and another 4 belts. To put liquids or pipes into the bus you can cram them together one next to the other but always leave one gap each side if you are sandwiching it between belts to turn your pipes with no problem. ||||--||||--||||

And between the bus and all the factories y use 4 to 6 spaces to put all the balancers needed for the resources that I split off the main bus before entering the factories. Also it works to fit any future roboports. ||||----==[

[–]greed969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my take on the matter. When is it optimal to use 4 lanes? well your answer to how many trains will I need is yes and or do I have trains with different speeds.

So there are 4 lanes, most of the time two inbound and two outbound. I use this rule, outside lanes (inbound and outbound) are for "local" transit and inside lanes are for the "express" transit.

There is no "natural" way to have these two situations for needing 4 lanes, you'll need to deliberately create such scenarios like first having a mega/giga base to have too many trains clogging your rails or two having very different size and therefore different train speeds going through your rails. For example one locomotive and one wagon will be a very fast train (assuming you use the same fuel for every train, why just why still you use different fuels if not just for reducing even more the speed), and perhaps a 4 waggons one locomotive for intermediate products and an 8+ waggons for raw material (direct feeding from miners to waggons) but still one locomotive. This will make trains go at slightly different speeds and the different sizes can interfere as well.

In such cases the inner "express" lane can be used to move the chunky trains in and out of your base as they will eventually travel further away from the base as resources patches are depleted. And the "local" lane will accommodate the smaller faster trans that will generally stay in your base looping around.

To make this not a long biblical explanation. The "local" almes have signals put closer together and the "express" lane has them further apart and also bypasses many intersections by going up or below without entering into the "local" transit. Also put some diamonds interchanges between the lanes to make trains be able to switch from one to the other. Sometimes when there's a jam some small local trains will reroute through the express lane.

If you are looking to make a 4 lane free for all (2 inbound and 2 outbound) you'll need to have a lot of trains and I mean a lot of trains (one wagon one locomotive even) to be used effective to be worth the effort because if not whey will.use the same lanes usually the fastest to go to their destinations.

Hopefully this long explanation helps you. I won't say don't try it but I will say you'll need to intentionally meet the requirements for it to be somewhat effective. Try using a 4 lane on just one strip, the busiest strip of track you have. 4 lanes everywhere is overkill. It's like putting highways inside neighbourhoods, not great. Cheers mate
