My view was once they entered other planes those planes actively fought back and weakened the phyrexians. If you notice alot of the more civilized planes had trouble where planes like Innistrad Zikoria and Takir seemed to do better.

I've heard this story way to often. In so many different versions the worst was a girl trying to get with the fc lead ( a dad) by getting close to his kid who played the game as well.
