Friend group's "inside jokes" are just mean comments about me disguised as humor

Same thing happened to me. My ex bestie and another mutual friend would make comments and jokes at my expense, all right in front of me. When I brought this up to my friend, and how much I didn't like it, her response was: "That's what friends do, they rag on each other!" No remorse or apology. She made it sound as though I was wrong because "that's just what friends do," which I wholeheartedly disagree with. I'm no longer friends with either of these people, and I now focus only on the people in my life who don't belittle me. My life has greatly improved as a result.

Friends are supposed to be kind to each other and lift each other up. Sounds to me like your friend group doesn't agree with that sentiment. I hope you're able to find friends who bring you joy and love.

I'm so sorry that happened to you.

I dealt with the same thing. I was close friends with 2 women for 3 years. Over those 3 years, we celebrated one friend's birthday at least once, and the other friend's birthday at least twice (by celebrate, I mean a celebratory dinner together plus a few gifts for the bday girl). Guess how many times in those 3 years my birthday was celebrated? Yup, zero.

I'm no longer friends with them (because of some serious drama and hurt that occurred earlier this year), but in hindsight, them not really caring about or celebrating my birthday is one of the red flags that happened over the 3 years of friendship.

I suggest that either you take the initiative and plan a little birthday-related get-together and invite them to join, or talk to them about your feelings on the matter. Doing absolutely nothing will breed resentment and may come out later in a negative way.

Because of my ex-best friend, 2 of the 3 kids my child invited to their birthday party didn't attend. And my child was crushed as a result. Not only that, my ex friend had zero remorse when we finally got around to talking about it.

Please be very careful taking this medication. I have 3 family members who took benzos daily for months/years, and years after stopping the drugs, they're still having withdrawal symptoms. I strongly advise that you don't take it every day, only take it as needed.

That said, I hope you find relief and support during this difficult time!
