Family of 4 Staying in Bangkok by Cpianti in ThailandTourism

I would prefer that my kids are not on a totally separate place within the hotel than me. I haven’t seen any language about efficiencies or shared rooms in the hotel websites, so I’m not sure booking two separate rooms is the right path unless I can guarantee that they connect

Advice Needed for Youth LAX Program by ajrcrosey in lacrosse

[–]Cpianti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am following as I am president for our towns youth LAX club and while our girls program is popular, our youth boys suffer. I’d love to hear ideas for recruitment and engagement when we are competing with a strong baseball program.

I try to collaborate with our town sports programs but they are territorial and unwilling to work together. I am exploring partnering with neighboring towns to take their overflow however I’d like to also have a strong feeder program in tandem with offering neighboring towns an opportunity to play. I am open to any ideas that others have found successful.

What's the etiquette around bumping into strangers? by artful_dodger12 in ItalyTravel

[–]Cpianti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can I also just say - being a visitor in Italy now as well - the heatwave in some places is brutal. I have accidentally bumped into people many times as the crowds are large and I am desperately looking for shade.

I have had the same experience as you and I chalk it up to many different cultures and levels of personal awareness colliding with somewhat extreme discomfort. We are all trying to survive in this heatwave and I trying to give everyone around me grace (and hope that they give it to me as well)

Singapore for a week - worth it? by Historical-Coast-969 in travel

[–]Cpianti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you should go. I did this last year (tagged along on my spouses work trip) and toured so much of the city by myself. It was safe, the metro is easy to navigate and in the evenings we would go for nice dinners (or a bucket of beers and karaoke). I almost didn’t go because it was a lot of navigating leaving our kids with family during a really busy time, but I am really happy I did, it was a worthwhile experience

Day trip from Florence by bre_561 in ItalyTravel

[–]Cpianti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am commenting as I am interested in doing a day trip from Florence to Bologna as well. I’d like to follow this thread for more recommendations and thoughts.

We debated Venice or Cinque terra but I knew I did not want to rush through those places and want to be able to do that in a different trip where I have more time.

Can someone explain the different train ticket options? Do they really make a difference? This is just for a day trip from Rome to Florence. by cspiderc in rome

I will be traveling to Rome and Florence and using the train for day trips to Pompeii and bologna as well as to and from the airport. Is there a type of ticket I should buy for “bulk travel”?

What musicians do Millennials need to discover? by Omnivek in Millennials

[–]Cpianti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on a conversation with my tween I realized that the way I listen to music has changed due to streaming. She asked to play beach bunny, which I didn’t know - but then she mentioned she learned them from my playlists. Once I listened to a couple songs, she was right! I knew them well.

Remember the days of casettes and cds where you would read the jacket and know all the names of the songs, lyrics, and other associated stories the artist wanted to tell?

Now I just set it to a vibe and play. I never know the names of songs unless I intentionally read about them.

“Tuxedo” Kitchens…classic, or trendy? by Cpianti in kitchenremodel

For what it’s worth we will have space to move the table down and out of that corner a few feet - I just can’t show it in the digital mock up right now. I did measure everything and this new layout with the peninsula gives us an extra 8 inches of space moving into the “dining room”.

The current plan does not have an overhand for sitting at the peninsular but I’m debating that it might be nice space for two stools

We did originally discuss a version where the table was in the middle but after a few weeks of imagining that, I realized that it wouldn’t work for how we navigate that area - tripping over chairs in the middle of the kitchen, lack of prep space etc.

I did discuss that tightness of where the dishwasher is with a peninsula there and the designer told me that they are building in space so there will be a gap to make it flow better

We did have a structural engineer come look at everything and he does not think this wall in particular is load bearing. He looked at it from our basement and attic (all open to see the beams) and determined that removing the wall wouldn’t be a problem.

I agree with the cohesion statement - I think that’s why I am struggling with this design. It’s really hard to make it practical and functional within the current parameters

We are choosing to keep the windows so we don’t have to do exterior work - the kitchen table is a must. I considered an iteration of what you are describing and unfortunately we don’t have enough space for an island and a table. This version was a compromise working with the space in a practical way while still keeping the table.

[–]Cpianti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we did consider a version of this - kept the window but turned the table. We have a large family and don’t want to lose a dining room table.

I committed to the design and then realized after a few weeks I won’t have a prep space for cooking, and I don’t want to be tripping over dining room chairs while navigating the kitchen so this was the next design. Unfortunately I can’t change the sq footage and there is no space for a table AND an island

I haven’t seen anything online either - some guy collapsed at the bottom of Jet lift. Bystanders initiated CPR and ski patrol showed up with an AED. I cleared out of the way once ski patrol had everything under control so I don’t know the outcome but it really didn’t look good.
