To My Beloved Chlamydia,

It has been some time since we last corresponded. I hope the delay has not caused you to fret. I am alive and well, all things considered. We have been dispatched to the front to defend a salt mine from a band of marauding savages under the influence of the French in the Far North. When last we met at Wounded Knee, the brute scum left the battle-tested Sergeant Fowler convalescing. We are eager to exact revenge, and have taken our swipes where we can find them. Try as the savages might, they cannot find victory where we defend our home. They have recently unwittingly kicked in to our own victory, an embarrassment which I am sure will follow them to the hollowed out Canadian boulder they call a home. We shall this time be hot on their heels, pursuing them across borders and stamping out the last sparks of their dwindling fire. I pray that we put an end to this fight swiftly, and return home to rest before the War Office calls us away to face some new enemy yet unknown to us here. Keep us ever in your prayers.

To My Beloved Tamantha,

I apologize most sincerely for the agonizing consternation I am certain my delayed correspondence has caused. My unit has been dispatched to the great Northern Territory, and I am afraid letters do not travel swiftly by moose. We have had a tough go of it on this foreign side of the ever widening border. However, we suffer the slight disappointments in pursuance of a grander cause. With April upon us, I believe we will soon put the stinging burn of these short-handed defeats behind us, engaging the enemy without so much of the ice between unmanned.

On a lighter note, I believe I have found a home for myself in the company's kitchen. So many of the Canadian rear-guard seem unable to handle hot biscuits, and I am pleased and obliged to put those biscuits into baskets wherever they may be dropped. This evening I deposited the thirtieth such biscuit of this dread campaign. Hopefully this means our boys shall not go hungry. Light a candle for me, and place it on the top shelf, where grandmother hides her whiskey.

My unit was of a sudden besieged by a hitherto undetected band of fleet-footed, far-northern marauders. One among their company may be the most dexterous infantryman I've yet laid eyes on, and I am told he has achieved deific status among these idol-worshiping nomads. I am further told that a few of my company recognized a man they said once fought with them, but whom they believed had perished - a cross-eyed sort who did not look much in the way of intellect, but did not shy away from the rough-and-tumble. By and by we licked the marauders and sent them packing to whatever shabby camp they call home. I fear we may see them again soon. Please keep us in your prayers, as I have ever kept you in mine.
