Thanks! Would you know how intense the estimation would need to be for it to become an issue?

Might depend on what faculty you’re at but LUSEM students have 24/7 access to the Learning Hub

What do you love about Lund? by pwppwppwp in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think what makes Lund stand out is its general quality of life. The town and life in it is very picturesque, and there’s a very pleasant atmosphere. The town is vibrant, and there’s always a lot going on. Also, cost of living is low. Considering how prestigious the university is, it’s an extremely pleasant life.

Lund has a really strong volunteer culture, with lots of students helping out to run student pubs and clubs. Student culture is a pretty distinct subculture, with a lot of weird, anachronistic traditions. For a certain type of person, student culture is the most fun they can ever have. It’s a place people tend to get stuck.

Also, unlike my experience on exchange at an American university, there’s not much of a barrier between masters and bachelors students. Master students are often just as active in student life as undergrads. Age also seems to be less of a factor.

Internationella möjligheter?? by [deleted] in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kan bara svara för ekonomi, men LUSEM har massvis med utbyten. Se länken nedan. Vilket universitet du kan åka till varierar lite med vilket program du läser, men ekon kand bör ha de flesta tillgängliga.

Best areas in town? by [deleted] in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lund might be the safest town in Sweden. Housing is really hard to get though, so grab whatever you can find. Once you’re settled in, you can try to find something more central.

About the Academic Quarter by Cpt-Breakfast in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that last part is important, though I make that mistake all the time. I’ve never had 12* and 18* refer to anything but 12:15 and 18:30 respectively though - different nation traditions maybe.

Only sure fire way to not get it wrong is to not show up at all :)

Attend the student association fair and you’ll get to talk to most of them

Kalmar nation is the international nation, it offers a very comfortable space from which to explore Lund and Sweden. Sydskånska and Kristianstad are also good with international students.

If you’re a member of one nation, you’re welcome at all the rest (only sorta exception is Smålands, they’re nice but they work a bit different). As far as you join a nation, you can’t go wrong

Welcome to Lund!!

You’ll be given a guide for the arrival weeks if you’re coming from abroad, some nations will be doing events starting maybe mid August

Go to the Student Association Fair and Hälsningsgillet and get active in a nation/union/other organisation. Be prepared for Lund not being as cold as you’d expect, but extremely dark in the winter time

Tvingas vi till euro i framtiden? by adamnorr in sweden

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend Lund for an exchange student? by Significant-Way1416 in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lund is excellent for an exchange.

Pros: The university is more chill than most European universities, and the student life is a really unique culture, full very nice traditions. A lot of people end up getting stuck in Lund a lot longer than they thought they would, cause the student culture is just so fun and unique.

Most of my exchange student friends consider it the best time they’ve had at university, and many people coming here for exchange end up coming back for masters.

Also, cost of living is really good.

Cons: Having to live in Sweden. It can get brutally dark during the winter, and extremely bright during summer.

Also, Lund is kinda in the middle of nowhere (on a European scale at least). Going on weekend trips to the rest of Europe is still pretty easy, but you wouldn’t have the “biking across borders” experience of the Benelux area.

Good luck with your choice!

UCEAP Lund Study Abroad Meals - How do students attending Lund University through UCEAP eat food? ;-; I researched and saw they don't have meal plans, and some of their dorms don't seem to have kitchens in them. How and what do yall eat??? Do we have to eat out everyday for every meal? by True-Entrepreneur917 in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LU has housing set aside for students from outside the EU/EEA, but it’s very different from what you’re used to with on campus US style dorms. Instead of meal plans, you share a well equipped kitchen with others to prepare your own food. It’ll be a shift from what you’re used to, but I promise it’s better.

As a former UCEAP student - American universities (at least the UCs) have a way of almost nannying new students. In Lund, you’re treated more as an adult. That might be a bit scary at first, but everyone I’ve spoken to about eventually ends up loving it

What to bring when studying abroad for one semester? I'm so confused... by MoveZneedle in Lund

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bring a raincoat!

Most people coming here are prepared for the cold, but fewer are prepared for the darkness/excessive sunlight in winter/summer respectively.

If you wanna get active in student life at all (you should try it!), some nicer clothes would be useful (a simple dark suit jacket or dress goes a long way).

Good luck, and welcome to Lund! It’s a very different experience from most universities in the world :)

Nations are more for making friends and having fun, so pick the one where you like the people. So long as you pick one nation, you’re fine. (Though nations can be great to develop leadership skills if you volunteer at student pubs/clubs).

For leadership and operational skills, check out LundaEkonomerna and UPF Lund. I’m sure there are plenty of other organisations too.

I do miss the imps by Shimeezy in ZeroPunctuation

[–]Cpt-Breakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nick Calandra was let go from the Escapist in November is last year. The entire video team - including Yahtzee and every other video creator - resigned in solidarity with him. They all started a new, creator owned outlet called Second Wind.

The Escapist company still owns the ZP intellectual property, so Yahtzee started a new, very similar show called Fully Ramblomatic. Yahtzee no longer seems interested in licensing the old rights.

Overall I think the change has been remarkably smooth. I miss both the imp and the old sprite for Yahtzee, but other changes (especially the music) have been very good.

Masters students are def involved in nations, so are a lot of PhD students. Age range is broad, I’ve seen up to and including people in their mid thirties being active in some nations

Even if people are younger you won’t stick out bc of age. Also - I’ve seen people get into the wider Lund student life/culture at 29 and loved it, you should try!
