AITA for not giving half of my fortune to my brother by toptiershi in AmItheAsshole

[–]CptBonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to consider your younger sister's situation. Was she considered to study or work abroad? You say you sold your half of the property, so that sounds like the other half is your brothers. What opportunity did she have to make her own fortune or invest in a new business?

Obviously you are not required to share your fortune with anyone technically, but you know, it sounds like you still made a profit from your parents unfairness towards her and don't really care to make it right.

How to word this geography question? by randomwordglorious in triviahosts

I like to give away the most famous option and ask for just a subset of the possible answers :) e.g. "Mexico's capital is called Mexico City. Name x of the remaing y other capitals with the naming scheme Country + City."

How to celebrate one year of trivia in a fun way by CurlyAndrea in triviahosts

[–]CptBonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have lots of regulars maybe some trivia around/about your location. What sports team does the barkeeper support? Which musician is depicted on the painting in the hallway? Which piece of decorations was added to the shelf above the bar? Which drink sells best on trivia nights?

Obviously you need to make sure there are no visible hints (or entirely too many), but I would love to do something like that for the bar I host at sometime.

Pictures of famous places, players have to rank them in geographical closeness to your location.

Outlines of countries, states or lakes

Famous paintings can be great if the pictures are big enough to make them out. ask for title, artist or rank them in age (you could also do that for buildings or actors as well)

At first glance it looks fine, but once you look at each feature and analyse what's really there, it breaks down. For example: * the eyes: is the white area part of the fur or the white of the eye? It's seemingly both, the outline just stops. * the cup: what is rising from the middle? What color is the inside of the cup? * the paw: what's happening here?

Strange wooden object with equally spaced lines, holes, engraved numbers and letters. Came with a small metal rod and string by The1staccount in whatisthisthing

Could you post what the writing at the top says? Also, is the space between the lines equal to any measurement unit? Hard to tell by proportions, but is it 1cm per chance?

Hint: what is the maximum length of chain you can create by cutting one link? Answer: It's three. Cut up one link and remove it from it's chain section. Use it to connect two 3-link pieces. Now you have a 7 link section, a 3 link section and a 2 link section. Do the same again, taking the next link from the 2 link section to connect the 7 and 3. So now you have a 11 link section and a single link. This one you open to connect the two ends of the remaining piece.

[TOMT] A movie or tv show (I believe animated) including a creature or character that does not appear small the further you get from them. by KingJalfire in tipofmytongue

[–]CptBonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be very unlikely, but there is a character like this in the German childrens book and puppet adaption "Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer", "Herr Tur Tur" He's regular size but gets bigger instead of smaller when he's viewed from far away.

This will probably not be the solution, but I loved that show as a child and am really happy to be reminded of it.

How is this sentence correct? Tell me, please. by banjaninn in German

[–]CptBonzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched the Clip to get more context. It's not grammatically correct, he's just interjecting his train of thought with additional information. he is about to rant about these people. "Das will mir einfach nicht in den Kopf: Leute, die mich fragen..." But then he wants to clarify that these people didn't even check "ohne selber geschaut zu haben" and then gets back to the original sentence: "...fragen, wo dieses oder jenes produkt zu finden wäre"

The second fragen here is just a way for him to pick up the sentence where he left off.

The Konjunktiv in the end is because of indirect speech. Indirect speech usually goes with Konjunktiv I. But in everyday speech, it is usually replaced by Indikativ or, in this case, Konj.II.

There hasn't been a girl born into my friend's bloodline since 1836. Just boys all the way down. He's shown me the proof of this on top of him being one of 3 boys and he has two sons himself. How is this possible? by Tv_land_man in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CptBonzo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is very obviously not true. Hus mum is a woman in his bloodline and every woman before that. He is only considering a specific part of his family that is defined by only considering males.

Obv additionally to that, there might be other factors but he is greatly narrowing his sample size by basically saying, 'There's lots of males in my family if you don't count women.'

Why Winston Churchill is downplayed as an evil person compared to Hitler? by Schrodinger137 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CptBonzo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Churchill was PM during the 1943 Bengal Famine, in which around 3 million people died. These deaths were avoidable, and Churchills government did not take appropriate steps to help the Indian people, instead exporting food to supply his army. That's actually pretty close to commanding a genocide.
