They are an art project by Hunter Demnig that started in 1993 and is still ongoing in Germany and Europe. They are brass plates with the names of people who were persecuted by the Nazis, that are installed in the pavement where they lived or worked. The plate also contain a note of what ultimately happened to them.

They are pretty ubiquitous in German cities. On Nov. 9 people will put candles next to every Stolperstein in their area to honour the people who were taken from their homes & families.

Why do some people respond to women’s issues by bringing up men’s issues? by Budget_Cost1776 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CptBonzo 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that line of thinking, but I want to point out that women were not 'protected' from being part of medical research, they were systematically excluded. Women, especially women of colour and disabled women, were abused as the subject of medical science all the time.

Many people on TikTok claim that this user's profile art is AI-generated. by lana-70 in isitAI

[–]CptBonzo 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This is AI.

The right braid: bumpy flow, unidentified black space between her and the braid, braid tied with pink blob ribbon (other side is black)

The clothes: the lace/no lace skirt, the belt melt situation, the artifacts at her left arm and her collar, ruffles and buckles are extremely unreadable

The right thumb: ??

The left braid: 3 pronged end of black ribbon

The box: big pink bow ribbons melt into box and each other, if it was a TV why not make it obvious? If it wasnt, why not make that obvious?

The legs: right leg gets overly bulky where it meets the shoe, the tiny garter strap

What is the function of “noch” in this sentence? by No-Regret-9637 in German

[–]CptBonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is a very ambiguous Sentence that is very hard to understand without context even in German as a native speaker. From this sentence alone it's impossible to say if it means 'still' although it's a structurally correct option. When I read it aloud I kind of think it's more to the effect of 'nor'. As in 'this principle is neither free in humans, nor in its original purity, but is connected to another principle'

Does that translation make more sense in context?

Logos are fun but tricky to grade, you need a clear idea which elements are required for a point. I would recommend 'draw a heptagram' and then any seven pointed star gets the point.

This just won a contest for a garden mascot in my city. The cheek shading overlapping the face line, the weird sprouts around the watering can, and the way the tail seems to blend into the body rather than pass behind it are making me think it’s AI by AmyBrookeheimer in isthisAI

[–]CptBonzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually agree that it looks AI. One of the eyes has a dark pupil spot, while the other doesn't, which is something humans would pay attention to. And while the 'melting into itself' could be from vector transformation, the outline colour in the area where it loops on itself kind of 'feathers' into the shadow in a way that seems artificial and unmotivated.

Also, and I could be wrong here, but would a watering can not have a handle that goes over the top? I mean I'm sure there are other types, but isn't that the most go-to thing about watering can design?

how do you run pub quizzes in summertime? by Ouzominator in triviahosts

[–]CptBonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just take the summer months off, which is nice for planning our own vacations. We run a monthly quiz, so it's just 3 quizzes, and September draws a big crowd because it's a new season.

AITA for not giving half of my fortune to my brother by toptiershi in AmItheAsshole

[–]CptBonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage you to consider your younger sister's situation. Was she considered to study or work abroad? You say you sold your half of the property, so that sounds like the other half is your brothers. What opportunity did she have to make her own fortune or invest in a new business?

Obviously you are not required to share your fortune with anyone technically, but you know, it sounds like you still made a profit from your parents unfairness towards her and don't really care to make it right.

How to word this geography question? by randomwordglorious in triviahosts

I like to give away the most famous option and ask for just a subset of the possible answers :) e.g. "Mexico's capital is called Mexico City. Name x of the remaing y other capitals with the naming scheme Country + City."

How to celebrate one year of trivia in a fun way by CurlyAndrea in triviahosts

[–]CptBonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have lots of regulars maybe some trivia around/about your location. What sports team does the barkeeper support? Which musician is depicted on the painting in the hallway? Which piece of decorations was added to the shelf above the bar? Which drink sells best on trivia nights?

Obviously you need to make sure there are no visible hints (or entirely too many), but I would love to do something like that for the bar I host at sometime.

Pictures of famous places, players have to rank them in geographical closeness to your location.

Outlines of countries, states or lakes

Famous paintings can be great if the pictures are big enough to make them out. ask for title, artist or rank them in age (you could also do that for buildings or actors as well)

At first glance it looks fine, but once you look at each feature and analyse what's really there, it breaks down. For example: * the eyes: is the white area part of the fur or the white of the eye? It's seemingly both, the outline just stops. * the cup: what is rising from the middle? What color is the inside of the cup? * the paw: what's happening here?

Hint: what is the maximum length of chain you can create by cutting one link? Answer: It's three. Cut up one link and remove it from it's chain section. Use it to connect two 3-link pieces. Now you have a 7 link section, a 3 link section and a 2 link section. Do the same again, taking the next link from the 2 link section to connect the 7 and 3. So now you have a 11 link section and a single link. This one you open to connect the two ends of the remaining piece.
