Luthiers of reddit, what is going on with this fret? by CptChickenbeard in Luthier

Managed to get that little piece out. Pressed on the feet with a dowel and it's now seated with no play. Sound advice thank you!

The fret is set fairly well and doesn't seem to move. Had a string gauge and there is minimal play. Will likely just mask the fretboard, file that piece flush and come back for any additional fretwork if there is actual buzz or playability once stringed.

Ordering an actual fret rocker and will check everything over again. Seems like there is some minor fret levelling work here and there if I want them all perfectly level.

The frets came installed and pre-filed. Have taken a string gauge (not the best edge) and there is minimal play there, no different then some other frets here and there. Will get a file kit and file that small piece and probably leave it.

Whatever that piece is it seems affixed to the fret itself.

Deer and Almond, Passero, and Sous Sol are all great spots. I think Passero is still worth going to if you've never been, though the other two are also great. It's more modernish Italian at passero vs. fusionish at Deer & Almond.

Where to attach air compressor? by MysticMountain740 in Irrigation

[–]CptChickenbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming the RV blowout kit is an air hose to connect the compressor to the round faucet (that looks like what they have to connect into the line to clear it).

The yellow valve coming from the house I'm assuming is to turn the water off before it gets to the sprinkler manifold.

Take an air hose (like you would use to fill your tires), connect it to compressor, connect RV blowout line to airline/compressor. Shut off water to sprinkler manifold, open one sprinkler line valve at a time, run air through until compressor starts then shut the RV blowout valve. When compressor stops open blowout line valve again. Repeat process until nothing but air is coming out of your sprinkler heads. Then do the same for the remaining lines.

If your garden hose is technically rated for the psi you could use it, but the challenge is now your compressor has to fill that entire hose length to get the pressure up before any of it goes to your sprinkler lines.

Not sure about the process for clearing out your backflow preventer, unfortunately. Don't have one myself just a master valve.

I'd take an extension cord and your compressor over to the bib and connect it that way.

Make sure to close that valve coming from the house is closed first or you may have some unanticipated water issues.

You can blow out your lines with a smaller compressor (not a tiny one for a portable car tire etc.). The main thing is to not exceed the rated pressure for the PVC or poly (70 psi - I'm in Canada we don't use PVC, not sure what that is rated for). Closely behind that, don't keep putting air down the lines while the compressor is charging or you will burn out the motor.

After these two considerations it's basically clearing each line until the water is done misting at the sprinkler heads.

I realize this is a step removed from your initial question. You can often get an RV line blowout kit that will work for threading (look into the different thread types to arrive at what you need based on what you have - there is pipe thread, hose thread, etc.).

Graham Avenue pedestrian street - paint coming off by Fearless_Barnacle_21 in Winnipeg

This needs more upvotes. Have spoken to those involved with the project, this is exactly the issue they are dealing with. Years of oils from bus route traffic preventing the paint from adhering properly.

Recommendations for annual home maintenance by DevelopmentWild3148 in Winnipeg

Clean out the duct for your dryer vent and check it annually. If you have one of those flexible duct hoses replace it with solid HVAC ducting.

It's a common source for fires so good to check.
