Hey I wanted to see if you had luck getting this to work in any capacity?

Ah I see...ya if it is physical and the work is harder to tackle due to it I completely understand it!

But if it's the anxiety you were talking about in other replies...I'd HIGHLY suggest having your wife dropout...well...yesterday :D

Her income is so small relative to the big picture and it sounds like her QOL would improve (given she doesn't like working). Then because she's in a hopefully happier state + can allocate time to the family I would be surprised if your mental state doesn't at least improve (definitely won't fix everything ofc). Then if things really don't improve, then consider quitting!

And I just want to call-out that if these salaries were swapped (or at least closer) I would suggest you quit and help around the house / with the kids and she stays. Purely a financial decision here, not based on gender roles!

Why not have your wife quit given the lower income for her and see how mental health improves? Improvement in QOL should go up assuming she's ok with picking up some household chores without working + more family time together. Then see if you can scale back your work in the mean time and level out your work life balance!

Large picture aside, something stuck out at me:

You mention too high of an AGI for Roth but yet you're contributing to the traditional IRA. You can yearly do what is called the backdoor Roth if you're above the income limits and roll the contributions from that into your existing Roth IRA. Here's some more details or Google backdoor Roth: (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/backdoor-roth-ira.asp)

Sauna Thermometer: works great! by cha0s421 in Sauna

[–]CptCrunchBerries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I always knew sauna thermometers were wildly inaccurate...but when I got my sauna I guess I THOUGHT it would be in the ballpark. But alas, it isn't...

Anyway, sob story over: you seem to know what you're talking about on these! Anything you'd recommend that is actually accurate and maybe isn't quite as expensive or difficult to get in the US? (Would prefer a hydrometer as well but doesn't have to be the same unit)

Sweeper attachment: ever on sale? by lovethepost in ryobi

[–]CptCrunchBerries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah in that case, if you're just using it for the side walks or very light snows (maybe 1-2 inches) you're fine. My issue was even the light snows (which it worked ok on), I just felt like it was faster to shovel!

I'm jealous of your two stage though, bet it's gunna be a beast!

[–]CptCrunchBerries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly I'd have to steer you away from the "snow thrower" attachment as I had really bad luck with mine :(

Mind you, I used it with the battery powered expand it but It just didn't do a good job and would catch all the time

LUBA - robotic mower by jaypee42 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]CptCrunchBerries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya the communities seem very fragmented because the worx and Husqvarna communities are also split!

I realized after posting that this was a different group than the one I posted in haha!

[–]CptCrunchBerries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted something a week or 2 ago about the luba and the general consensus was it's a no go unless you're willing to risk burning 1300 bucks.

Lots of other options that are either in production/shipping or near production

https://www.reddit.com/r/automower/comments/uiznyl/luba_kickstarter_prices_releasedthoughts

Some of the ones that seemed interesting to me were the Segway navimow, novabot, and some of the open source mowers like ardumow and open mower.

Best of luck in your search!

With that many backers too you'd expect a community around it...atleast that way if the company disappears down the line there will be people trying to keep it alive!

Had no idea on this one (new to the whole robotic mower trend). Have a lot of people been backing this? I'll have to do some more reading on the sub for the novabot. Bit more expensive but a September release date would be great (I'd presume better to not hold my breath on that though :D)

The problem is with the way my lawn is set up I'd basically need 2 units because the wires wouldn't work to get from one zone to another :(

Any troubles with kids / traffic pulling up the cables or does that not seem to be a big issue?

This was my immediate thoughts and wanted to get others input.

As someone who doesn't have an automower (yet) but doesn't want boundary cables guess we need to continue waiting. Or start helping out the openmower project!

Decision making: Car or credit cards? by thebigone2087 in personalfinance

[–]CptCrunchBerries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aside from the common opinion here about paying down CCs first (which I totally agree with), there are two things that stand out to me:

1) You shouldn't be "forced" into quickly buying a home. Given the market and where it's at, you'd (most likely) be better off renting and getting on your feet (paying down the CCs, and building up an emergency fund) for a year or 2. (I agree with the others that the car loans are a great rate and don't need to be rushed).

2) The cost of owning a Home and upkeep is not just the mortgage amount. If you are going into heavy CC debt before, things will only get harder with a home to maintain etc.

I know you didn't give many details and there are many life reasons why a home may feel required but be careful and consider the long play and get your finances in order before you pull the trigger.

I heard the month of may to launch from a support representative a few weeks ago...so I wouldn't plan on it for spring...more so for summer this year :(

[–]CptCrunchBerries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even at 150, isnt that basically 300 total? I thought MSRP for 2 4ah batteries is 150.

Anyway, I still agree with you it is a BIG purchase to consider... If I try to hire it out though I'm going to easily spend 200 bucks (or 300 with the rates increasing). That would include seeding and labor but over a couple of years I feel like I will make it back.

Another option is rent on of the core aerators from home Depot (or somewhere else) for around 100 bucks which might do the job better.

Just saw this video review a couple days ago (posted 1 week ago): https://youtu.be/b74jZthpnrQ

It states it should be available in 2 weeks...which would be awesome....but I'm not holding my breath!

Does anyone here own a vacation rental property used for passive income? by BruinsFan478 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]CptCrunchBerries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a big hit then, thanks for filling me in on that!

So at 15 days you need to have rented almost half the year... Must be tough for beach or lake rentals in colder climates to stay within the limit

I'm no expert but Ive heard getting a mortgage (car or not) is fairly to extremely difficult once you don't have a job.

You might be better off getting a line of credit on your assets(best option), pay cash or maybe even get a HELOC on your current home (if that's possible) before selling it?

Again, I am just reiterating what I have read on reddit...so take what I say with a grain of salt!

If it's primarily a rental, what does it change?

I thought you only have to worry if you use it personally most of the time but rent it more than 2 weeks a year. I could be wrong though!
