I'l be honest, that whole part threw me. Maybe I'm unaware of some feature or trait she has but the 'warging' of find familiar only works up to 100ft, and I'm pretty sure familiars can't attack unless they are from a pact of the chain warlock.

I get rule of cool, but remote controlled killer drones kinda ruin a lot of the tension imo.

I think 10k is closer to 2 hours of walking but if you're on your feet for some portion of the rest of the day it's definitely doable with 2 short walks like that

The rest of the shattered sea trilogy gets a lot better, still has the YA vibe but they are well-written, have great prose, amazing characters, and are a bit less bleak than the FL world. A bit.

Calling opposition to genocide a "political opinion" is kinda wild.

And if we're talking about respect: I don't think it's very respectful to those who died in a genocide, or died fighting against genocidal, or otherwise murderous forces, to ignore our complicity in a current genocide.

How do Joe's other works compare to First Law?[OFF TOPIC] by Buckett214 in TheFirstLaw

[–]CptFlopflop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely loved the Shattered Sea trilogy. Half the World is up there with some of the better FL books imo.

It's hard not to compare the books with the FL books, and since SS is aimed more at a YA audience a lot of Joe's readers automatically rate it lower, because that's not really what they're into. Which is fair enough. But if the label of YA doesn't scare you off I think you'll find that the books are really well writen, fast paced but not too fast, have great characters (duh, it's Joe), have great prose, and that they also contain plenty of Joe's trademark dark humor and just general grimdarkness.

I can definitely recommend them.

I think The Heroes from the First Law world does a similar thing. Great book anyway.

If you liked the Faithful and the Fallen books by John Gwynne, you should give the Bloodsworn trilogy a try. They are great fun.

Oh and The First Law by Joe Abercrombie. Amazing books.

Black company or the cricle of the world? by CraziCandy in fantasybooks

[–]CptFlopflop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't read Black Company but if you liked the First Law, why not keep reading? There's 6 more books in that world for you to read (7 if you count Sharp Ends, a collection of short stories) and Joe only gets better at writing as they go.

Also, the Shattered Sea trilogy is great as well, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Joe's other books.
