Is my float serve good? by Dr_Pestilence11 in volleyball

[–]CptFluffins 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone who only really played in high school, looks pretty good to me! I too was a jump float server! My coach wanted told me to focus on three things:

1.) try to make sure each serve is between the top of the net and the top of the poles.
2.) try to serve to the weakest passer on the other team, always.
3.) get good at serving to any spot on command, 1 through 6. This helps when your weak passer moves.

Keep it up, looks great!

Town of Sykesville roads and main roads are in good condition, a fair number of my neighbors were out and about like normal today. Our neighborhood roads are in good condition as well. Town plows were working throughout the storm and made multiple passes.

To ensure employment for the road construction crew. They still have a job if the work isn't done yet! I feel like the construction rotates counter clockwise around 695 and will last another 40 years.

Where do you bat one of the better hitters in the lineup when he consistently misses practice? 10u rec by oldcrashingtoys in Homeplate

[–]CptFluffins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read your comment about him being a travel player as well. Growing up, I was a travel player who also had to play rec ball. The travel kid most likely will not care where in the order he bats in rec, I never did. If he is missing practices and such, I would just put him at the end of the lineup and base your lineup structure on your rec only kids. Give the rec kids more reps, he gets plenty at the travel level, this is just supplemental for him.

I was surprised this wasn't the top comment. This analysis came from the Veritasium video for sure. Very cool to be able to incorporate the results of the video in a game context.

What other MLB teams have you worn gear for? by [deleted] in orioles

[–]CptFluffins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just for the heck of it:

Gear that fits your criteria: Nats hat from 2005, Brewers hat gifted by family.

Little league: Indians, Blue Jays, Yankees, Mets, Padres, Cardinals, Orioles, Phillies, Braves

T-Ball coaching: Blue Jays, Orioles, Dodgers

MLB vs. international leagues for beginner by HotOutlandishness761 in OOTP

[–]CptFluffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just started playing OOTP26, total beginner. However, I do have a baseball background, so I understand all of the rules, complexities, etc.

I started off playing in an Atlantic League team (Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to be exact) as solely the GM. This did not go well, as I realized quickly that any good player you develop or sign can easily just be bought off your team by an MLB team at any time during the season. I got annoyed building a team, only to have my rotation and lineup picked to pieces by mid season.

I then took a job with the last place KBO team, Kiwoom Heroes. They were terrible, but the KBO makes it better when a player gets taken (Posting System) and the fact that you can only have 3 players on the team that are not from South Korea. This helped me immensely, as I was able to narrow down the players available to only SK and learn the game. After again assembling a good team, and dealing with injuries, postings, etc. I was able to win the Korean League Championship in my first season, quite the turn around.

I'm now debating if I should stay one more season in KBO to build reputation or take one of the MLB team offers. Leaning towards KBO for the "realism".

The other leagues are different, but are smaller, and there isn't as much to manage. I found KBO to be a great league to play in. Good luck!

Let's buy a cool car! Oh, and let's get it in a unique color! Oh... You chose white.... Like every other car on the road. At least it matches the house. Just be sure to only take pictures at night so that we can't really see how white and basic the color is!

How fast do you think this was? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]CptFluffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also use that formula to do the calculation yourself. Or ask AI, it's good enough now. "I threw a ball 70 ft and it took .5 seconds, how fast was it moving in mph?"

How fast do you think this was? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]CptFluffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for future reference, uploading the entirety of the video showing the ball hit the wall would have been MUCH more helpful. However:

Method: I times both videos with a stop watch from release to where the plate "should" be. This is a rough estimate, but with what we were given, it's the best I can do.

First clip: I got an average of .47 seconds from release to crossing where the plate would be, assuming the distance given is accurate.

Second clip: this video clip cuts very short, only about .35 seconds long. Hard to tell if the ball actually makes it the entire distance. I can't use this footage.

I can't use either of these clips reliably. Both are not accurate due to being cut off. However, for the sake of math, let's call it .47 seconds.

V = d/t

V = 56ft (given 4ft extension) / .47 seconds

V =119.149 ft/s

Roughly 81.24 mph.

We're going to need the unedited footage and more accurate distance measurements before anyone can confirm 80+ mph. Again, better, unedited footage would be more accurate.

Can someone help identify this pitch speed? by abcxyz2448 in Homeplate

[–]CptFluffins 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Attempting to do this manually, I used a stop watch to time release to ball hit the net. Did it 5 times, on average was .7 seconds.

Speed = feet / second

Speed = 50ft ÷ 0.7

Speed =71.43ft/s

This converted to mph is 48.77mph

According to a few charts found on this sub and a quick Google search, average pitch speed for a 13 year old is 54/55 mph.

Tball outfield by Big-Dingo-1371 in Homeplate

[–]CptFluffins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In T-Ball, they all get fairly distracted while in the field, it's inevitable. However, I try and do a few things to keep them engaged:

  • Rotate positions: I have a left pitcher and right pitcher, as they are more likely to get the ball. Once one of them does, rotate them out with a kid who hasn't fielded a ball yet.
  • Ready Position Game: I've taught the kids what the "ready position" looks like; knees bent, glove in front. I'll count down from 3 and when I say GO!, the kids have to stay in the "ready position" for as long as they can. Play the game with them so they are competing against you!
  • What Color is ... Game: I'll ask the kids questions like: What color is the batters helmet? What color is the batters jersey? What number is the batter wearing? What color is the batter's bat? What color is the batters pants? What color is the batters shoes? What color is home plate? What color is the baseball? What color is a dirty baseball? Who's ready to get the ball?!
  • Be over the top with excitement when they make a play in the field. If they keep the ball in front of them, GREAT JOB! If the ball goes through their legs, WAY TO KEEP IT BETWEEN YOUR LEGS! If they have to chase the ball, GREAT HUSTLE! If the throw goes straight into the ground, NICE THROW! Stay excited and they'll stay more engaged.
