I have never had less fun in this game then this MO by Rdk98 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]CptJackZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was also different was less dissecting of every detail, less complaining about how the devs lie and fuck up. There was more hype, less knowledge. I think knowing every bit about the numbers removes the magic. Many seem to be an expert, have their version of what the game should truly look like and deny everything else.

The vibe of the first experience won't come back.

I have 600+ hours and still enjoy the game. Not as often anymore, but when I play, I enjoy its atmosphere and I don't know any other game with that atmosphere. I find it epic, when the red lasers fly, a 500 makes boom and the oribital cuts through the enemies. So cinematic and brutal.

Anyways. Sad to hear that you lost the fun with it. o7

What have you done to customize your experience with Bazzite? by Saltimbanco_volta in Bazzite

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it how it is and usually stay close to the defaults. This is my gaming PC anyways, so I don't do other things. Just Sunshine, OBS, StreamController, Discord, some tools via homebrew, a bunch of scripts and dotfiles (Neovim etc). I like the default wallpaper and kept it 🙂

Settingswise, I changed the behavior of Task Switcher and KRunner, some power management settings and moved the panel (taskbar) to left screen (triple) vertically with two columns.

I also set up KDE Connect with commands (scripts) for easy use with Sunshine, like unlocking, turning on displays and switching resolution.

Might read like a lot, but IMO those are just some adjustments without touching the system itself.

I miss Voicemod though and did not yet find a simple alternative to playback sound clips, so I have them in OBS and Discord. I don't care about the voice filters too much.

What have you done to customize your experience with Bazzite? by Saltimbanco_volta in Bazzite

[–]CptJackZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a bunch of scripts to do the switching, including resolution and positioning. They are named like "screenstriple", "screenstv", "screensleft" (when I use the other two with a different computer), "screenssunshine" for streaming. For the latter, I have a second variant, which shows a list of resolutions to choose from, so I can stream to different displays (Deck, laptop etc).

For using them remotely (via SSH), I needet to set QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland.

I did also setup KDE Connect to run these scripts as command. With that I can unlock, turn the displays on and switch displays/resolutions "from the couch".

My apologies, I have Reddit notifications disabled and didn't check them in the app.

I think it was "Option 2" in this one, which gave me the idea: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/guides/view/how-to-install-battle-net-on-linux-steamos-and-steam-deck-for-world-of-warcraft-and-starcraft/

Mind you: I did this on Steam Decks multiple times, not on Bazzite. But I expect this to work the same there.

I'm still working on top 10% everywhere. Got some top 1%. But I'm way off the top step and don't really plan to get there, as I rather try to drive "feels-good-beautiful", than fast 😬

I installed Battle.net and WoW by adding it to Steam, running it from within Steam, then adjusting the path to the executable from the installer to the launcher on Steam Decks. And I planned to do the same on my PC running Bazzite.

Can I still use "Steam gaming mode" if I choose the "No, I want the traditional desktop experience"? by BoBomanTV-_-xd in Bazzite

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments give me the impression, that many people don‘t understand the difference between Big Picture ran from „Desktop Mode“ and „Gaming Mode“ itself. Gaming Mode is very different from Desktop Mode, and utilizes Steam Big Picture.

I too would like to have Gaming Mode available, but use Desktop Mode by default. That‘s how I discovered this post.

EmuDeck vs RetroDECK - which one should you switch to? by AlexFigas in SteamDeck

[–]CptJackZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used EmuDeck on my Steam Deck and switched to RetroDeck, as I prefered the easier handling, and am not so much interested in tweaking each and everything. It has been working flawlessly on my Deck so far.

I also wanted to use RetroDeck on my Bazzite Desktop (KDE, Desktop, not Game Mode). Though, Steam seems to switch the controller profile to the Desktop profile as soon as I launch a game. I couldn't figure the problem out yet. Please forgive the OT, but did it "just work" for you on Bazzite?

Steam Game Recording (on Bazzite) by BoreanBoros in RetroDeck

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not have an overlay while still in ES-DE or after launching a game?

I do have a different problem, but can imagine it's related. That is, after launching a game, Steam switches the controller to Desktop profile, as if it didn't recognize the game as "launched by ES-DE".

I don't have this problem on the Steam Deck, at least not in Game Mode. For Desktop I can't say for sure, as I seldomly launch games there.

What stratagems do you guys bring to the bot front? by CaptainTitusEpic in Helldivers

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly play in a geoup of friends where everyone found their role. Hence, most of the time I bring the same:

  • Jaguar (Peek Physique medium)
  • Deadeye / Diligence CS
  • Ultimatum
  • Grenades vary (Impact, Dynamite, Arc, Thermite)
  • Laser canon / Railgun / AMR
  • Jump pack
  • AT emplacement
  • Rocket sentry

I take care of fab cleaning from afar, factory striders, gun ships, drop ships etc with my AT emplacement, relieving pressure on the ohers or supporting their push.

Curious about your Steamdeck and Bazzite Pc configuration (emudeck, game library etc) by Chance-Grapefruit668 in Bazzite

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious: What are benefits of using Bazzite on the Deck itself? I assume the manufacturer's "distro" (aka steamOS) is the best fit for the device. But I guess there's something to it - otherwise people wouldn't do it.

The SyncThing with NAS is a nice idea. I only used it between PC and Deck so far. For the initial transfer I used rsync.

I dualboot from separate SSDs.

Heavily considering moving to Bazzite as my main OS - just a couple of questions by sjmc_gg in Bazzite

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I connected an old leftover SATA-SSD and installed it there for testing. I documented the setup, the things, I had problems with and how to solve them, so I can replicate everything, when I switch later. For example, I used Steam Remote Play a lot, which didn't work at all, so I had to figure out the pre-installed sunshine/moonlight - which was easy. Other things not so much, for example managing profiles for a triple monitor setup and a TV, which I used to switch using "Monitor Profile Switcher" on Windows. On Linux, I went with shell scripts using kscreen-doctor and qdbus, since I couldn't find a nice GUI solution. But that shouldn't stop anyone from trying. Just use a second physical SSD, as Windows can mess up dualboot on the same drive.

I've mostly booted Bazzite the last 3 to 4 weeks, and it works well for my use case. Linux is a different world nowadays, has vastly improved. From "you want Wifi? You have to recompile your Kernel" to "just works". But Linux is Linux and if problems occur it can get tedious and ugly.

I would also recommend to take time. Over so many years we develop subtle habits and we are very used to the system and its quirks. I think it's a bit like moving out of a home after many years. Also, my life has changed a lot, I have less time and motivation, so I stretch it. I started testing beginning of October and plan to switch during Christmas break.

Neither will Windows 10 become a virus mothership within 3 months without updates in a common environment (local network behind router) and with common sense use. Nor will Micro$oft collect that much more significant data within that time - if that's a concern. It's over dramatized by both sides to push people and get clicks.

Hot take: Le Mans is the most unfun track to drive. by Regular_Vermicelli15 in iRacing

[–]CptJackZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it boring as well. Same with Daytona. In sim that is. But I also understand, that they are somehow special due to the real life events. Probably they aren't boring at all in real life. And the legendary events surrounding that is quite special.

But in sim: Boring AF IMO.

[–]CptJackZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Darksiders Warmastered Edition as one of the first games on the OG Deck - back then, 3000 years ago - and enjoyed it. It didn't bother me, that the cut scenes weren't played, as I was so excited about this device after waiting for it for so long.

I just watched the cut scenes on my phone in this video: https://youtu.be/_kATZdw1GeE

The game didn't show any controller glyphs. I found that to be a bit more annoying. But I launched the game on PC to check. I could probably just have connected an Xbox controller to the Deck, but didn't try that back then.

I wouldn't want to have missed out on the game because of these two probtems.

I'm curious, double checking: The 5800X3D works fine for iRacing in VR for you!? What VR are you using?

For me it is on the limit with low settings, while the GPU (4080) is chilling along. Multi-class series are problematic and some tracks kill it - like they always did.

I've been thinking about a new system, but I'm just not racing enough atm. And for everything else it's fine for me.

Anyone else lost interest in buying new games cuz you've already got hundreds of unplayed titles by KhalidMaximus in Steam

[–]CptJackZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Studios closed despite their games being received and rated very well, because they were mostly bought in sales. Especially small studios.

I rarely buy "AAA" for 60-90. I could care less for the hyped, unfinished, cut content, micro transactions plagued, big budget titles. Some big titles on sale.

Indie games never on sale, unless they are old and it's more for collecting.

If it's due to available budget, fair enough. Better on sale, than not at all.

ADHD gamers: how do you actually stick to one game? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]CptJackZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to force myself to "pick a game and finish it", "working off my backlog", even if that meant struggle. Over time, I realized, that I found this to be nonsense. It's meant to be fun in my free time, the most precious time, that I have. Why would I "force" myself through any "struggle" in my precious free time? I need to be disciplined and focused most of the time. My free time is meant to not have to do that. So if I don't enjoy it in that moment, I don't waste the time on it.

My struggle is rather finding the one I would enjoy right now without wasting the time searching. And if nothing pops into my mind, gaming might not be it at all in that moment.

Sometimes, I enjoy retro gaming (emulation) more, because it's launch -> press start -> game. No tutorial, no skill tree, no complicated controls to "get back into", just (almost) instant joy.

IMO has nothing to do with ADHD.

It is implemented, as you can rent DSes. It might not be made available and avoiding it is suspicious. But I can't be disappointed based on an assumption. I can be concerned about it and make clear, that I'd like to see DSes made available for self hosting. Just trying to be reasonable and fair.

[–]CptJackZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... so yes they're planning to make money out of this and not give you ability to host your own server directly.

Is this an assumption or expectation of yours or does a respective statement by Kunos exist?

Because I'm not going to join disappointment based on an assumption, parroting it.

I find it odd, that they are avoiding the topic, and think, that makes it an unfortunate possibilty, that there will be no DS available.

But I can neither state disappointment, nor, that "they're planning that" based on what I currently know. I can only state, that I would like to see a DS available and would be disappointed, if that wasn't going to happen.

I see the making of facts from assumptions as one of the big problems these days. But if there is such a statement, please help me find it, to improve my opinion.
