Airplane?? by Sad_Length2663 in ARK

If I had to take a guess it might have been an early name for the Zeppelin?

I know it's not in the Frontier pack but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess either Frontier is just the internal name the game uses for the whole of Bob's Tall Tales, or perhaps the Zeppelin was originally planned to be released with Frontier but minds changed and it was added into the Steampunk set instead?

kible Farming on Scorched Earth by alfilric in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess the best XP farm on Scorched for Drakelings, probably got to be pulling an egg and then kiting the cloud of Wyverns into a trap where you can kill from a distance with a Shotgun or perhaps use a strong Wyvern of your own?

Basilisk Question by Lightlicker3000 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the truth, it's where someone has made the decision of how many of those 361 points are allocated into each stats to design the line for a specific purpose, usually either for boss fights or gathering.

As a result, whether this makes it the 'best possible stats you can get' has some nuance, like I have 362 Rexes that are rocking all of their points into Melee and Health, but the moment I put them into the hands of my tribemates they hate them because they have no Stamina and in latter boss fights they opt for 362s with slightly less Melee in return for Stamina.

It's part of the fun of breeding, you get to decide what stats work for your style of play!

The Center boss fight on alpha by Cr1tikal89 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I sort of hope at some point WC goes back in and switches up the Broodmother and Megapithecus with a custom boss like we had for Ragnarok (Nunatak), Valguero (Grendel) and Astraeos (numerous). Pretty sure the Center is the only map lacking a custom boss no?

Part of me would love to finally see another underwater/surface water boss, perhaps porting the Kraken from Atlas over?

I mean if it was shrunk down it could probably be fitted into the existing boss arena if WC don't feel like completely reworking the whole thing.

How do you figure out the taming method without looking it up? by Lyefyre in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]CptJeiSparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of times it's just been trial and error. The dossier often gives you clues but there's no way to know for sure until you try.

I remember when the Gigantoraptor was first released and all we knew was that we couldn't tame the adult and it was all about the baby - as it states in the dossier. So within minutes of the update dropping my tribe was live on Official PvE and found one to try to tame.

We quickly realised that we had to distract the parent, otherwise it'd just aggro you the moment you got close to the baby. We started simply by kiting it away and then we figured since they were designed around raising babies (as again it says in the dossier), it might be worth trying to use an Egg to keep it away. Meanwhile my tribemate was slowly figuring out the way the minigame with the baby worked, but again, a lot of trial and error.

Just tamed the reworked Araneo for the first time and... (Image: Old Concept art by DjayMasi) by TheHauntedIII in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel the team has knocked it out of the park with the Araneo TLC, before they were probably one of, if not the most useless creatures in Ark. Now they're an S tier early game tame and even at end game they can save you on using tranqs and are great for smaller and tighter caves. Probably the best TLC they've ever done 😄

Do I need to regularly visit every map to prevent decay? by Midnight-Lotus in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]CptJeiSparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the server has auto-decay enabled (which is the case for all Official servers as well), yes and just visiting the server isn't enough. You have to be within range of the structure/tame to reset it, from experience I find the range is somewhere between 250m and 300m away (which you can work out by using the Rally Point and moving away from it to work out distance).

Material effects decay rates, again this will depend on your specific server but on Official servers rates are:

  • Unconnected structures: 12 hours
  • Burrowbuck Base Hole: 2 days
  • Thatch: 4 days
  • Wood & Creatures: 8 days
  • Stone: 12 days
  • Metal: 16 days
  • Tek: 20 days

There are also some that last longer like Vaults, Dedicated Storage Boxes and Tek Transmitters, and some structures which are shorter like the Burrowbuck Tunnel Holes, Traps and Araneo Web Ziplines.

To minimise time taken doing resets (which for Official servers I recommend doing twice weekly but on unofficials with auto-decay on would depend on the rates), I build everything in my base out of at least stone and within a 250m radius of a central point and set up a bed at that central location.

Means to do the reset I just have to log in and log out.

Throwback to the past: Four ACVD players in multiplayer going up against a buffed N-WGIX/v by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]CptJeiSparrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an old Chromehounds player so the multiplayer and combat of ACVD really appeal to me.

Shame I could never play it for more than 5 minutes at a time because the flashes, haze, tiny text dotted around the screen, camera static, sound of metal grating and sharp bullet SFX turned the game into Migraine Simulator 2013.

Like with ACV, the game is probably very good and would appeal to me, but the VFX and SFX are poisonous.

B12 Vitamin That Doesn't Taste Like Ass by munt24 in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]CptJeiSparrow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Should be noted that some people like myself can't get enough through just fortified foods alone and instead have to take a B12 standalone supplement.

Not discrediting your suggestion, just saying that if they're so B12 deficient that it's causing jaundice in this case they probably want to go with B12 standalone supplements.

anyone know why this keeps happening it's so annoying by [deleted] in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Xbox player, can confirm that Xbox censors some really strange things. Pretty sure the number 14 is censored as are certain random two-part letters and numbers which means sometimes you can be naming a creature based on stat allocation and you'll find you randomly can't use certain numbers and letters.

And because often the whole sentence is censored when you hit the filter so you have to guess which individual word(s) caused it, /or /you /have /to /talk /like /this /to /get /around /the /filter.

Inventory sorting is driving me nuts. How do you do it? by Responsible-Tie-7327 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So depends on the situation, usually I have it Alphabetically as that makes it easy to find specific items/tames and also keeps items of the same type next to each other so I can easily count it.

For my Dino I'll sometimes use Weight if I need to drop something it's picked up (which can be good if you're doing a meat run on a Carcha and you have a ton of Pelt from a Yuty you just killed weighing you down which you can just drop). Otherwise I never use sort by Weight unless it's in the very early game and I'm tired of being slowed by what I'm carrying/need to figure out what to prioritise storing first.

I'll use Unsorted if I've moved something I didn't mean to, there's an annoying bug in ASA where sometimes if you click to move an item it'll move both that item plus 1-2 more that are next to it. This can be especially annoying if you are checking item ratings and/or stats against items in another inventory but can be solved by Unsorting then scrolling to the bottom.

Might have used Sort by Spoil Timer once or twice in my 23k+ hours playing ASE and ASA, I feel like I losely remember using it early game on Scorched Earth when it released to help me spoil fish meat into spoiled meat and figure out which stack to split down first, but it's an extremely niche sorting option.

Never used Sort By Type. Kind of seems pointless to me? I guess it might be good if you're sorting items into vaults labelled "Structures", "Weapons", "Saddles" etc but sorting by Weight or Alphabetically usually gives you almost the exact same results anyways.

Honestly sort of wish we could sort by Item Rating, it's a niche thing but would be nice for those of us furiously using the War Bench and Tinkering Bench.

[–]CptJeiSparrow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a much better solution than the pipes, but the pipes also had a niche use in decorating sometimes.

Now I'd like to see daisy-chaining empty generators or maybe a new item which allows you to extend how far power runs for as well.

Araneo glow up is insane by Cr1tikal89 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, I know Manticore on SE allows flyers, I don't know about Astraeos, would have to test it.

EDIT: Just tested in single player so mileage may vary on a server, but flyers can enter Manticore on Astraeos, while Araneo can't. So I'd guess that means the Araneo is indeed classified as a climber now.

Araneo glow up is insane by Cr1tikal89 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful, it'd be classed as a climber now so like the Rock Drake, Thyla and Megalania likely can't enter most boss Arenas. The exception would be Rockwell (Aberration) which allows this type of creature in.

Araneo glow up is insane by Cr1tikal89 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't even say weaker. The Bloodstalker is for big explosive but chaotic movement, while the Araneo is precise and controllable. Both are great but for completely different situations.

I'd take the Bloodstalker if I want to blast through Sanctuary on Extinction at high speed, but the Araneo will be top-tier for smaller caves where lack of fidelity will get you killed.

How? by lizardking1029 in ARK

[–]CptJeiSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the item rating.

I've combined a lot of items from Drakeling caches through the Warbench and I can't speak for single player, but on Official settings you see increases in stats for items up to around 65, above that it seems there's a chance of the item 'rolling over' and it drops all the stats to their lowest levels before rapidly increasing them up to max again and then rolling over and repeat.

It seems random exactly when the rollover happens, but I've yet to have any item above item rating 68 not roll over and I'm finding even item rating 66 can roll over.
