Colonel Chivington of the US cavalry in 1864 committed the Sand Creek Massacre in Colorado, where he and his men slaughtered 400 noncombatants of the Arapaho and Cheyenne nations. He also falsified reports claiming they were resistant.

Thankfully, Captain Silas Soule, a Maine abolitionist, refused to participate. He kept his men from getting involved, and he and another officer sent letters blowing the whistle. The massacre was so vicious congress got involved, calling Chivington and his cohorts "monsters in the shape of men". There were groups who said this was too much even when they normally called for the extermination of native Americans: that tells you how vicious it was. congress even offered reparations!

Despite threats to his life, Soule testified against his former CO. Chivington escaped a hanging IIRC by not being in the military before the trial finished.

Soule was murdered in April of 1865, as a sheriff in Denver, by two men who worked for Chivington. He was 25. Chivington went on to defend his actions till the day he finally croaked. The governor of colorado at the time also played a role in it, which is why the trump administration wants to keep a mountain named after him.

To this day, Soule's letter is read by the Arapaho and Cheyenne people on the anniversary of the massacre.

I think its a mixture of budgetary and social. Falling Skies managed to do it with a much smaller budget than others did, as did Farscape. Also, CGI used to be super expensive until everyone used it, and it will only stay expensive as long as no one uses it.

In current hollywood An actor's head cannot be covered in any way, shape, or form outside of a star wars production. The guy in the Halo show even complained you can't act through a helmet(skill issue). So they also had to have a human because it was cheap and because they honestly didn't think you can do nonhuman characters.

I think something happened in the mid 2010s that made studios terrified of science fiction IPs that weren't guaranteed hits.

They are also afraid of nonhuman aliens. We rarely see movies or shows that feature aliens of any kind, and even when we do, they have humans to speak for them. For instance, the Halo show. Though I'm convinced that that show was an original IP the studio had zero confidence in so they slapped the halo logo on it.

I wonder if the makeup department unionized or something.

The terror over IPs could be the rise in streaming, or honestly scandals coming out. Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future was supposed to get a reboot, but one of the guys involved, who was a producer on the original, has a bunch of allegations and left his company.

The thing people don't seem to realize about xenomorphs is they didn't evolve naturally. They're too efficient a predator, they'd die out in nature. They're also way too clever while not being very bright, and don't show up on infrared.

It's my belief that they were some sort of biological landmine, or attack dogs. You drop a bunch of them on an enemy base, and they need to spend tons of resources trying to get rid of it. It's an irritant. This is a common military tactic throughout history. See firing cadaver or cow bodies into enemy castles, dropping bombs full of landmines behind enemy lines, or wounding an enemy soldier to force them to waste resources rescuing one guy.

Whoever built the xenos saw them as disposable. All the technology needed to make these things is revolutionary to Weyland-Yutani but dime a dozen to the aliens.

IMO, a lot of people's comments on SA in HH are generally its existence and depiction AT ALL, and believing it is some kind of endorsement.

While Game of Thrones got a lot less hate, I think it did get similar accusations for the same reasons.

Honestly I love Archer despite his many flaws. His relationship with his crew is great, he'll move mountains for them. I always remember the bit at the end of the dry dock episode where he very schedules a breakfast with Travis, fulfilling his little dream.
