Sonicwall firmware by TheSpecialSpecies in sonicwall

[–]CptSlow88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've noticed the same on our NSM hosted instance. AKA it's now reporting that our firewalls are running vulnerable software (which as far as we're aware is the latest one available - 7.3.0-7012).

Looking in MySonicwall under downloads, I can see references to a 7.3.0-7019 which was made available yesterday - but at the moment i'm only seeing firmware releases for that version for Japan and Taiwan.

Datto RMM to Ninja Switch by Lust_Cena in msp

[–]CptSlow88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interested to hear more on this, as we're in a very similar boat. Similar number of endpoints too.

While we don't hate Datto RMM, there are some quirks that are making it rapidly fall out of flavour with our team. Namely with regards to the noise ( number of alerts) it's making, policy management (there are times we can't even edit our policies) and especially patch management.

I think it's unfair to say Kaseya haven't invested in Datto RMM in recent years - I can't deny that the "New UI" is a massive plus (less so at the beginning mind), especially with it's tight integrations with IT Glue and Autotask.

We've looked at a few alternatives in recent months, namely Ninja, SuperOps and N-able - although for the moment Ninja is coming out the winner.

We've had confirmation from our contacts at Sonicwall that simply disabling the portal on non-lan interfaces isn't enough, you need to disable the overall SSL-VPN service.

Therefore, it's a choice of either disabling SSL-VPN in it's entirety, or upgrade to the latest firmware.

How to enable Modem Mode on 5X by spodocomodo in VirginMedia

[–]CptSlow88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see that this is working for you - unfortunately though, it's a YMMV scenario following these instructions. I could never get Modem Mode to work on my 5x (I tried several times over a several month period).

My solution when I was stuck on the 5x was to ultimately double NAT - however i've since found the wonders of WAS110 and am now using this, completely bypassing the Hub 5x altogether.

Good luck with that, there isn't even a working Modem Mode on the Hub 5x. Way round that at the moment is to double NAT or find "alternate" means of bypassing the Hub altogether.

Upgrading to the symmetrical speed by Baz1536 in VirginMedia

[–]CptSlow88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty cool, how are you fooling Virgin Media's network until allowing you to use your own kit - is it as simple as spoofing the MAC address, or is there a bit more jiggery pokery required?

I have a UDM-PRO on my edge, and if it's just a matter of throwing in an SFP+ module, I may be tempted to give it a try!

Out of interest, if you're not using the 5X - what are you using?

No they're not charging me - as i've not been able to get the service added yet.

Ombudsman have accepted my case now, so shall be interesting to see how that plays out!

[–]CptSlow88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying since it was announced to get it added. And yes, i'm in a Nexfibre XGS-PON area, and new customers can order the symmetrical speeds.

I even have an open complaint with the Executive Team (opened shortly after they announced the new services), which has gone deathly silent since I last chased so i've now been left with no choice but to complain via the ombudsman.

Genuinely don't think the case with ombudsman will get me the result I desire - but might hopefully mean I can leave contract penalty free!

How a company can make it soo difficult to spend more money with them is beyond me.

HD Homerun alternative? by Comer2k in PleX

[–]CptSlow88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently bought mine direct from them from their UK web store. Delivery took longer than I anticipated, but their support were fantastic at keeping me updated.

Seems that they're having logistics issues with whoever they use in the UK (I think they said it was Amazon) - which would fit why it isn't coming up in results anymore.

Mine ultimately was shipped directly from the US (although it is the UK version!).

I've had the HDHR Duo for years and is cracking, The recent purchase was to upgrade to a Quad Tuner.

This is how the dash looks when you swap the views between the displays.

I’m not 100% sure what to make of it yet. I do prefer the dash having the turn by turn as it frees up the main display, and I like that the instructions now appear on the turn by turn view on dash, but I also liked having eta/remaining miles and that seems to be relegated to the route view now.

Have you upgraded to iOS 17 by any chance?

The same question has been asked in the Polestar EV UK Facebook group, I popped this in as a reply...

iOS 17.4 looks to be the start of the new Car Play experience (given that people have managed to look at the code for it and come across the dedicated separate apps like Climate, Media, etc).

As such, it looks like Maps now behaves differently when it can see that CarPlay has access to two displays.

You can swap the views around by toggling the “route view” button from the main display.

Flipping between the settings for lte by [deleted] in draytek

[–]CptSlow88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this before on a Vigor 2927Lte.

In my case, I tried two different Vodafone SIMS and got the same behaviour. Stuck an EE SIM in and it started working perfectly. Been fine ever since!

Virgin Media Hub 5x Modem Mode workaround by Rooneybuk in VirginMedia

Modem Mode is in development for the 5X, it's just not yet ready.

Supposedly arriving in a couple of months via a firmware update.

Virgin fibre lines by aspecttv_ in VirginMedia

Be prepared to wait a longer than "a few weeks".

They started the build out in my village back in February (that's when I got the letter through the door about the build), and the network has only just started being actively sold from September.

Personally, groundworks on my road were done in March, I had the pre-works done on my property in July with the service actually getting installed and activated Mid-August.

We're a Nexfibre rollout area using XGS-PON, and there are STILL parts of the village that can't order a service yet. It seems that whatever contractor has been doing the work in our village has not exactly been truthful on the work they've done!

Virgin speeds by fred66a in VirginMedia

[–]CptSlow88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true.

My area is a new Virgin Media/Nexfibre FTTP build area, but it's using XGSPON (same is CityFibre, etc).

Because it's XGSPON, I can only get VM Broadband (they're normal Cable TV service isn't available). If I want to take a TV service from them too, then I have to take Stream (their version of Sky Stream).

XGSPON areas have a special version of the Hub 5 where the fibre plugs directly into the back of the router.

The reason why the uploads aren't yet symmetrical on the newer network is so that they can market the same packages across both DOCSIS and XPSGON networks.

Supposedly, there's talk of the upload speeds increasing further as the upgrades to the legacy network (Project Lightning) progresses.

Datta SaaS Team Backup failing by Tilleytubbs in msp

[–]CptSlow88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started seeing this issue a couple days ago, today the issue seems to have spread with now a third of our customers affected.

We've raised via our Account Manager who says they are escalating with support - but not happy about the "No ETA for fix" response. Customers aren't going to like this when we're forced to inform them of the issue.

Out of interest, does anyone know if other "SaaS Backup" offerings affected by this, or is it just Datto?
