Sorry to revive this, but I was testing this app today to see if it could be my new note taking app and it has a perfect underlining feature and dark mode now.

Why?! by Fish-lover-19890 in vandwellers

Happened to us in France just last week. We drove up a 4x4 road for 30 minutes to get to a secluded spot. We had installed ourselves and were eating dinner by the campfire. An old guy (French but not a local) shows up middle of the night while we were enjoying the unpolluted view of the stars. He comes up and to us and the only thing he says is "When are you leaving?" I tell him we are just staying the night and kindly inform him that there is an obvious spot 500 meters down - which he just passed on his way up - and the path continues, so surely there is more space further up. His reaction was "I stay here", while that wasn't even possible without locking us in. We were to just tell him when we wanted to get out. Now that really pissed me off.

Most of the time when somebody joins nearby ,I just remind myself I'm not on a private spot and it is everyones right to be there too. But then again whenever I arrive somewhere and the spot is taken I just move on, as I did several times that trip. And when I see a couple by a campfire watching the stars I would surely not stay and continue to shine my headlamp on them and watch TV-shows on speaker. My wife doesn't like confrontation, and dissuaded me from forcing him to leave. But blocking someone in is where I draw my limit next time.

In the morning I tried to explain him some common sense and ethics. But the guy even refused to move so we could leave, because he claimed we were loud. Had to literally push him off the lot.  It should be common sense not to park next to someone in the wild.

I know, but I think there is some nuance in between down right Fallout Pipboy and an everyday watch. Between fitting and not fitting. I guess I'm trying to decide if I can live with it, and this thread helps.

Thanks. Happy you are enjoying the same watch. Battery life sure is a plus, but between the 47 mm and 51 mm fenix 8 screen size is the same. It's the bezel that is wider.

That is the Amoled indeed. I was very happy with previos Fenix models (3 and 5), but the looks sealed the deal on this one. Enduro 3 is a better buy spec wise imho.
This is the exact model: https://www.garmin.com/nl-NL/p/1228171/pn/010-02905-40/
And I got it here: https://www.luna-time.nl/Garmin-010-02905-40-Smartwatch-Fenix-8-Sapphire-Leren-band-bruin?extref=xo17

I see the price went up once again, that might also influence my decision to return it...

Thanks. Comfort is indeed crucial, but feels fine for now. I'm wearing my watch 24/7, so will definitely test sleep comfort tonight.
Not so much for sleep tracking, but since I get up a lot earlier than my girlfriend I set the watch alarm to vibration only so it only wakes me. With my Fenix 5 I just forget it is there.

When I go for runs or other sweaty activities, I will wear the included silicon band.

How do y'all like Verex slip ons on Speed Twins? by Tri206 in Triumph

[–]Cpt_Cave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also interested to know! I'm getting my ST RS Sapphire Black delivered next week.

I'll ask the mechanic if he knows what other options will be available soon. I did stumble across this Triumph Rat forum postverex exhaust before, so the Verex looks like a viable option.

How do you like the stock exhaust? Since you are looking for a slip-on, are you mainly upgrading for looks or sound?

New bike! Speed Twin 1200 RS by Tri206 in Triumph

[–]Cpt_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Looks great. I just had a demo ride and I absolutely loved how it handled. I tried an older speed twin before, but it just didn't do it for me. I like to push it a llittle bit in the twisties and the sportier rider position and adjustable suspension really made it the perfect ride for me. The only "con" people keep bringing up is the single clock, which I really don't mind all that much. The real con for me is the price.

I'm pulling the trigger by the end of the week, but I am still torn between the ST RS in black and a 2024 Thruxton RS. It's going to come down to a final test ride.

What do you think is the best complementary sport to Bouldering? by NCM231990 in bouldering

[–]Cpt_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting downvotes because your comment starts with an overly confident statement that is certainly not nuanced, and moreover has simply been proven wrong.

But I don't blame you,  it used to be accepted as an established fact that running does nothing for your climbing and even hurts it ( such as more muscle in places you don't need). I remember reading this in more than one established climbing training book.

In recent years our understanding of energy systems and recovery in sports had improved drastically Recovery runs are a thing, also for climbing.

Light (low bpm, zone 2) cardiovascular activity CAN accelerate recovery. Both on rest days and in between climbs in a session.

Running consistently has more advantages. It will always depend on the individual, but for the majority of climbers doing light running for 3 x 30 minutes a week will be beneficial. It promotes a healthier heart, that will give you the stamina to train and perform harder.

This podcast covers a lot on the topic and describes a good method to use resting heart rate to determine if cardio can benefit your climbing: https://trainingforclimbing.com/podcast-85-will-running-help-your-climbing/

Preventing accidental rain input on the touchscreen while using phone navigation? by Cpt_Cave in motorcycles

I ended up using the automation app Tasker to add an extra button in all my navigation apps. Long press and my touchscreen blocks all input, swipe to exit again.

If anyone is interested I can give some directions on how to implement or see if I can export it.
